A few of the guys who posted in response to your question have been offroading rus for years. They know more about these cars then I can ever hope to. Take their suggestions with a grain of salt, because they've been where you are now. Again, not trying to pour gas on the fire, just trying to keep a board member from disappearing. And yes, some of us speak our minds too quickly...

Thats the gross weight, the total weight the car can handle per manufactuer specs.

I believe that they are out of 80 to 81 GLs, but don't quote me on that.

From the 1984 FSM: 4x4 GL BRAT 2245lbs 4x4 GL Hatch 2240lbs Both are the curb weights (Not gross weight) of GLs with 4x4 4spds.

Update: This system is the S**T!!! A friend and I wired in an amp and sub and it KICKS! The dinky front speakers leave me a little cold, but this is 100x better than the original 4w factory system.

I'll second that. Kind of a waste to build such a killer offroader and just have it sit in the driveway or just drive it to work, etc.

I used the slanted console from an early 80's car. At the angle its at, I think it is clearing the fan box just fine. It is also slanted more than the slant in the console if that matters.

Hahaha, I ran out of time to wire it since I had to head back up to school! I will let you guys know when its working.
