  1. welcome. Dude.... slow....STi? that's not slow. A stock EA81 is slow. Enjoy the STi
  2. Yeah. _____ told me you were going to be in town around that time. We can caravan back to Colorado. will send you a PM w/my number BW
  3. I have some friends that I want to visit in Colorado around thanksgiving. will driving there. Per mapquest it's a 15 hour trip if I go through vegas and across mormon country. They said that I should probably do the southern route from AZ to NM and then north b/c of the mountains and possible snow. 17 hours or so trip. I am thinking "bahhh.. I have an lifted OBS" Am I being overly cocky? Should I take the southern route? Anticipate leaving 11/21 in the evening and cannonball running the entire length. Then heading out on Saturday for leisurely ride home. I will probably take the southern route home so I can stop by the Grand Canyon on the way home. BW
  4. You will have to get shorter axles made. They will have to have the XT6/EJ outer CV w/the inner 23 spline DOJ. Impreza FWD axles will have both ends you need but they are too long. I put in an EA82 crossmember w/PS so I used EA82 control arms. even then I still had to extend the control arms by one inch. you can frankenstein the EJ25 w/EJ22 heads. That should also bump up your compression. One thing about using an OBD2 computer is that there are more sensors to connect. I used an EJ18 which is an OBD1 engine so it was easier to get working and have no CEL issues. One thing about the project is that it never hurts to learn how to weld. Get a harbor freight wire welder for 100 bucks and go to town. BW
  5. IIRC the spline counts only apply to the front axles. I think all rear axles are the same spline count in the EA era. Not sure about EJ stuff. Pick up that LSD. it's gold. BW
  6. I am sure it will run. But run right. You are located on California land of super strict smog. If you do the swap I would look into the ECU reflash. In order to get it to pass smog you will need to CEL off and all of the smog stuff present. I was able to get my OBDI EJ18 BRAT certified. It's doable, but there is a bit of work. send me a PM if you have questions. BW
  7. I have an old EA81 tranny that I removed the tail end from. I need to know if anyone has ever taken the rear output shaft casing apart. I have the two casing pieces disconnected and they will separate but there is something catching to prevent them from coming apart all the way. Thanks BW
  8. Not. The axle at the DOJ is toast. i can grab axle and shake it up and down and there is a lot of play. BW
  9. yeah. that's what I heard but this thing was not just clicking. It developed into a really bad harsh sound. It sounded like snapping metal. I am not sure if it is b/c it's a Impreza Axle w/the three roller bearings? I have a FWD EJ axle in front to work w/my 5 lug swap. BW
  10. still in the area. PM sent w/phone number. I plan to head over to Cyberbackpacker's place to drop off a tranny. Give a call and we can hook up. BW
  11. My wife and I are cruising to Oxnard for a weekend retreat and while on the highway I feel this weird feeling in the drive train, but since the BRAT is runing really well, I figured... no big deal. Well we get to the hotel I hear a really bad clicking sound. To make a lone story short, the inner DOJ boot ripped and puked grease everywhere. I went to the local parts store and no one has the axle I need. So I guess it's time to pop the 4wd level and take it home in 3wd mode Bw
  12. Space Shuttle meets EA82 That's not a dump bed. It's a entry hatch.
  13. I recently found a website called crazedlist.org. It's a search engine for craigslist ads. Try looking at it for BRATs. They are a few in the west coast, but then you would have to ship it across the US to get it to a port on the West Coast. BW
  14. Well... the 1st gen brat had Character. the 2nd Gen became utilitarian. I wouldn't necesarily call them "ugly" maybe bland is a better description. I am just glad that they never took on the EA82 body styling.
  15. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=22799 Linky to the pics.. Saw this beaut in person. It's great looking. My wife even likes it and she doesn't really like old soobs. The only thing keeping me from getting a GEN 1 BRAT is I am on a 3 soob limit. W/a SVX, 82 EJ BRAT and my beloved lifted OBS, hard to give up one of them. Super frustrating b/c there is a 78 BRAT in Perris, CA w/spare motor and tranny that a guy wants 300 OBO for. BW
  16. I second the burn the seafoam stuff out of your tank. With my BRAT and the old EA81 engine when I had HC numbers that high it was due to oil blow-by. I think most people use the seafoam for their fuel systems. I know it says you can put it into your crankcase oil, but it might have thinned the oil out and it's now blowing through the rings. I am very hesistant in using anything in the crankcase that is thinner than motor oil. You might have to change the oil and use see it that will help. BW
  17. You have a pretty complex swap if you are going to put the complete 2001 engine onto the 93 car. Mainly because the 2001 is the OBD2 computer system and your impreza is OBD1. There are a ton more sensor and stuff on the OBD2 that your 93 car doesn't have. I know that the 1.8 intake manifold will bolt up to a 2.2 long block. But I don't think it would work with a 2.5 long block. I know that the 2.2 heads will bolt onto the 2.5 short block. Then the 1.8 manifold might work bolted to the 2.2 heads. You would get a pretty high compression motor, in the neighborhood of 11.5:1. Regarding the 2.2 harness and ECU you already have. If it's 1995 and newer, it's an OBD2 harness. You would have to make sure that you do something with the gas tank pressure sensor or you will trip a CEL. You would probably need to get an OBD2 harness for the 2.5 motor and the 2.5 ECU. You might get by with a 2.2 ECU, but I am not sure. RS25 might be able to give more insight and info on this than here. Call EastCoastSwapper or Garage Tuning to see if they have parts lying around or can give you some technical advice. Good Luck
  18. you need to replace the girl yelling oohhh... with "d'oh d'oh d'oh d'oh.."
  19. Well I have logged about 1000 miles on my EJ18 BRAT. I have the stock EA81 clutch and PP and it's holding fine. I am running 205-55-16 impreza sized tires w/the EA81 4spd D/R. The only major issue I had was the pathetic EA81 tranny mounts started ripping from EJ. I have new ones fabbed up and so far so good. Driving around in Low range fwd is great. I would highly recommend the seperating the dual range selector if you are running it w/a lift. I have yet to encounter issues due to lack of a surge tank. One thing that I have not ironed out is the temp gauge wires. I took a the temp gauge wire from the ECU and spliced it to my gauge. Now I am getting a irregular idle. Any one know where there is another temp gauge sensor on the EJs. BW
  20. NASIOC is doing memorial stickers. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/announcement.php?f=152 they look really sharp.
  21. Only if we use Genuine Subaru Parts to restore his arms. I think I will also have to journey north to take a look at this tyke. I might even have to go home w/that 79 wagon *mutters "wife permitting"* BW
  22. Did you ever start it up before? How long did it sit before you started it up? It might be noise due to low oil pressure. There is possible damage there but not 100% certain. Rod knock from what I have been told sounds like it's coming from the middle of the engine. Unfortunately if it rod knock, then you are looking at an engine rebuild b/c you have to replace the worn parts. What did the oil look like when you drained it? BW
  23. If you ever want to own a BRAT again I would buy it back. They are getting harder to find and more pricey. (BTW how much do they want for it ) BW
  24. Congrats Kostamojen. Looking at that 79 wagon that you have this jewel in the rough it in great hands.. BW
  25. Now we just need to do a Sobbie Barn raising party to get that EJ into your EA81 wagon. BW
