  1. I've swapped 3 different 99's with the 2.2 no issues on any of them. I did not look at the trans numbers on any of them. But as far as I have seen the only ones with the 2 plug engine wiring harness are the 99 legacy phase 2 2.2
  2. It looks like I am still in for Saturday. Where you all go the cars need to be registered/insured right? I'm guessing yes, but if not I want to bring out the Legacy turbo I have, that would be a fun off road car. I'm slowly being convinced it wants to be a stage rally car. I see it sitting behind the garage lonely and it just wants to play in the dirt. If I can come up with a few thousand for safety equipment someday...
  3. There was an optional skid plate package. I'm not sure if it was factory installed or a dealer acessory. There is one on my Mom's 99 OB limited. It's a skid plate from under the bumper to the crossmember and a rear diff protector/ skid plate also.
  4. Lots of things could have gone wrong with the head gaskets. Sometimes the block or heads get pitted when the gaskets go bad. The block and head can warp, but it takes a lot to warp the heads, they are real short. If it got hot enough to warp parts, IMO it shouldn't have been fixed. 95 2.2 automatic is the easiest year to use since it all just plugs in and bolts on, except two small tabs on the P/S hoses that don't really matter anyway. You can use 96-98 2.2 automatic engines as well, but you will need the matching single port exhaust y-pipe. The 2.2 engine you get needs to be from an automatic car so it has an EGR valve and you don't have a check engine light for missing EGR.
  5. If you guys like the car vote for it here. I don't expect to win, but it's fun anyway. I hauled a trailer of parts back from the junkyard today with the wrx wagon. It's a real subie now. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1714418
  6. Just look at the spindle and you will see the rust marks where the strut was. Line it back up and you are good to go.
  7. The newest part number head gaskets from Subaru don't fail again. The 2.2 is also a good option. You don't even notice the difference in power when driving an outback with a 2.2 swap.
  8. There were at least 3 different gaskets. Looks like you had the 2nd style gaskets. The latest ones don't have the black coating and are multi layer metal. The black stuff flakes off and fails.
  9. I had tuned lots of other efi cars in the past using other standalone systems, so I came into it basically knowing what I was doing. Once I got used to rom raider and ecu flash, it was really not hard at all. I don't get involved in tuning boost solenoids, I like to use a mbc on everything I work on. It's just easier. I also flatten out the timing advance maps so tuning the early 16 bit ECu is very, very simple the way I do it.
  10. Yes, in those pics I had the silencer in the exhaust. I still have that exhaust system, but I don't have it on the wagon. I might put it on there, not sure yet.
  11. He was really easy to deal with, he even dropped the parts off at my house!
  12. Yes, I use Rom Raider and ECU flash. These cars are very addictive. A rollcage is the only thing I don't want to do to this wagon. I've had enough of driving caged cars on the street. I want this wagon to stay a daily driver, but run mid 11's at the dragstrip and maybe do some HPDE's or something like that. I also have a 91 turbo legacy that has been hanging around here, I know I should really just sell it, but I might put a rollcage and race seats in that so I can mess around with stage rally. Not competitively just once or twice a year for fun.
  13. I'll work on pics of this wagon and my 360. Here are some of my old wrx and the 360.
  14. Yes, it's a cusco strut tower brace. 15. This is my latest wrx. A month ago this was a front end wrecked stock wrx. I think it came out well. It was nice out today so I cleaned it up and took some pics. My photography skills could use some work though.
  16. All of the head gasket issues seem to have been sorted out by 05 so you most likely won't have to worry about it on that one.
  17. It looks like I will be able to go. Do you know what time everyone is meeting yet?
  18. Nice, looks good, need bigger tires now. I wouldn't even bother with the outback lift blocks. You get better clearance underneath without them and the driveline angles aren't awful without them. I would do the outback trailing arms, they center the rear wheels in the wheel wells.
  19. That's not typical bad head gasket behavior. If I was doing it, I would pressure test for external, leaks. If none found I would assume it's burning coolant. At that point, I would yank the whole thing and put a 2.2 in it and be done with it. I'm sure some would think that's drastic, but it's a cheap easy reliable solution. A couple hundred bucks and a few hours work and you are done.
  20. Possibly, in theory it should all be balanced as a unit, but people swap the rear sections often with no issues. It's one of those try it and see if it works things.
  21. I would just get a good used one. They don't go bad often so it should be easy to find a good one and cheap.
  22. To fix the threads, just file/grind down the mushroomed part and run a die down it to fix the threads.
