Bu bye blown engine, hello high compression!
For the past week, I've made a lot of progress on my RX. Well lets start from more of the beginning of this engine swap. A month or so ago, I lost the oilpump in my stock EA82T engine, which was in my '89 RX. Decided it didn't like me so it took the engine with it as well. Everything from metal shavings to pieces of piston/block came tumbling out when I dropped the oilpan. Bad day. So I was going to get another EA82T block together I had as a spare and it has a bad rod bearing. Bah... So I keep looking. Well last weekend, I noticed I had a new-to-me EA82 wagon. '91 Loyale with SPFI! The reason for its demise... a blown timing belt. I got it pulled last weekend and have spent the past week tearing it down and getting it ready for all of my goodies. Today, I finally got the longblock put back together with my rebuilt gen 2 turbo heads, extra cam cases which I had installed my Delta 260 cams into, rebuilt lifters, and all new gaskets. Now I'm going to install both of my new front and rear main seals, get my clutch and new lightened flywheel on there, and drop it in. Hopfeully, by next weekend, I'll have it either running, or close to it. I'm hopin to have it running and driving again so I can take it down to Denver on August 13th for the Redrocks meet that awdpirates is having. Woohoo... high compression, new header, fuel items and much much more!

VF11 vs TD04
Plus, you can find a low mileage TD04 for cheap, cheaper then a higher mileage VF11. I paid $120 shipped for my TD04 and it only has 18k miles on it, always had Mobil 1 run through it too. Yup, a lot easier for the plumbing so you can use aftermarket hoses for it from a WRX!

anyone ever replace windshield?
It all depends on the shops. I know quite a few shops that will put it in as long as you buy the materials like glue and such, though them. Also, they'll charge you less if you already have the windshield out and prepped for a new one to go into it.

rwd conversion - completed
sedan and coupes cause the wagons had a solid axle in the back

Interesting Hatch.....
Psh, my '78 Brat could do that a couple years ago. I had a FE 1600 in there and no need for a million people to hold onto it to keep it from moving. Front wheel ebrake + RWD Brat + ~120hp = Fatty Bratty Burnouts!

The clutch is here!
I got the same clutch! It friggin grabs like none other! Mine is in my '89 RX and it didn't slip a bit with as much stuff as I've done to it:banana:

My Crappy Primer Job And The "Manual Look"
put on about 3 coats of primer and wetsand it out with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Then if you want to paint it, this would be the time, even if it is with rattlecan or Rustoleum like kingbobdole;)

colorado meet at red rocks awdpirates
WOOHOO! The RX will be there sporting a new engine and a few other little items that I have since picked up:banana: She'll just be 3 different colors and on 15" steel rims:-p

EA82T Head question
I got me a nice pipe plug for mine since my intake is off of a '88 XT which was naturally aspirated so no EGR!
-
block plugs
They're not so much as plugs, but bolts. The heads have on the bottom of them, one 14mm bolt. I cannot quite remember where exactly they are on the head though.

Denver: Goin' to the J yards 7-10-06
Hmmm, if you need an extra motor by chance, I got one from my old RX hatch:D

Subaru Dashboard?
we actually did get the GLF-5 but they're not very common to see anymore.

new to subbies.....just did an engine swap
Look for the green connectors under the dash on the driver side. There will be two and they plug into each other. If you time the car, you also want to plug these in before you start it to time it, to help set the ECM to a base line or else it will do some very funky things.

Subaru Mobile Home
Nope, thats a gen 1 stage 2 wagon. Since I got into mine pretty intense, I know what one looks like with a stripped hatch. Plus, if you looks very carefully at the tailights, you'll see they're longer then a gen 2 tailight and they go around the corner on the body.

MEET: CO: May 21th at Red Rocks Park
yes cause my RX is going to be running or close to it this weekend:banana: Then off to the bodyshop to get the body finished, woohoo!!!

Carb woes+, looking for suggestions, long winded...
Keith, if you need parts like a radiator and such, you might wanna try and come up since I have a EA82 wagon for parts now. I'm going to take a look at it later today to see what kind of condition everything is in since I also need a shortblock for my RX.

CF Hood Interest
I'd take a EA82 hood with a section from an WRX/STi hood where the scoop bolts to it sinec I'm in the process of getting a carbon fiber STi scoop. I should have my stock hood almost done with the said insert in it and boostbuddy can use it as a mold if needed.

Rotors & Pads? ACDelco, Wagner, advice?
But don't go extreme to lifetime pads because they will actually wear the rotors instead of the pads. Saw it on a '98 VW Jetta that had stock lifetime pads from the factory. Ended up replacing the pads and rotors which were quite spendy.

Super Street August COVER CAR
Caboobaroo replied to ..:bigFAT:..'s topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUmm thats not a Rex... that a WRX. As the sticker on the back window of my RX says... "There ain't no "W" in ReX!" Very nice. Maybe after I dump a $hiton of money in my RX, I'll be able to flaunt it in magazines... Old SKOOL Represent!

passed State Inspection 14!
And I'm the USMB drunken apprentice, thats my job to post after having beer! Oh and congrats on the inspection. Glad I don't have any of that crap here, not even road salting really. They use more like lava rock for traction but in some counties, they do use salt every now and then, if its really bad.

1988 1800 RX Turbo
Welcome to the wonderful world of Subaru RX owners. Your turbo, if stock, can produce about 15psi before it maxes out. I have seen 25psi run through it but you can imagine how badly this little turbo is struggling. Second, you'll crack a head before you crack a block, unless you get a rod knock of course. They like to crack normally in between the valve seats but that is fairly common and is fine unless the crack gets big. Also, they like to crack a water passage into the exhaust as well, which is also a faily common problem. It'll still run fine but will eat coolant bad. Also, blowing headgaskets is another major problem. Have you done any modifications like bolt on performance? There are a handful of us runnin a TD04 from a WRX, with a WRX top mount intercooler (or front mount like subyrally, rallyruss and gravelRX), plus a lot of other things like exhaust, intakes, cams, suspension conversions and the sort. Good luck with your car!
