  1. you could... if you want the car to snap into a few places as soon as you take it outa the shop!!! since subarus have a unibody construction the strength is given through the BODY and all the things attached to the body... on like a big rump roast ford truck or something you can take the body right off the frame and drive the frame away... but on a unibody the frame is the body/the body is the frame... so if you were to go take off the roof, chop off the doors and all that the car just lost a bunch of strength... sure you will be able to move it but if you want to go jump up walls and drive over rocks your hooped... even the guys that make there hatches into hatchbrats take extra care in strengthening up the back because the roof provides a lot of strengthening... just don't do it!!!
  2. the only thing that i believe that could make it better would be 4WD... but i'm sure it has no trouble getting places!!
  3. for me... when i have kids( in my mind at the moment... never... but i am sure my mind will change sometime) i wouldn't want more then 2... if anymore, i believe i would go nuts... as per my adventures working in a daycare for less than minimum wage... and plus, since the average family will only have 1-2 kids a forester(or better yet an outback... due to its slightly larger size) would serve the average person... and if the person is worried about space for the family yet the outback or legasy is plenty large, why would you go for the H6(except just to say, "hey look at MY H6!")... more engine, less fuel economy and you can't really do anything special with the H6 in that frame(or lack of) anyway... i just wish that the people from subaru would go back and look at the way suv's were built from 10-15 years ago... when the suv was indeed an suv... the time when you could only buy the toyota 4runner with a standard trans... and now its just the other way around! i am almost done my rant... but ;ast question for you ppl... how many people like the name? i know it stands for something important... but it sound like something kia would come up with... good day,
  4. Ok... i believe subaru is taking the road to HELL right now... first off... i know its been posted before... but what do you people think of the new B9 tribeca... brought to us subaru fans by subaru and the jerks at saab... www.subaru.ca for details... this car blows monkey poo... its subaru's attempt at the xuv... so basicly what they mean by that is make a taller minivan that has no sliding doors... thats what it is!!! you can't even buy it in a standard trans!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if it came in standard... and it could tow more(ie. something like 5000lbs) and they got rid of the damn third row(even though its optional... i still want it GONE)then i might be happy... But this might be a blessing for subaru... this opens up the world of larger suv's... they could easily, using there new technology from the B9, make a vihicle to compete with the toyota 4runner and nissan pathfinder... not to mention all the domestic suvs that can actually do stuff... and now for something that really pissed me off... whats up with the CHEVY FORESTER!!! http://www.chevrolet.co.in/content_data/AP/IN/en/GBPIN/001/BRANDSITE/index_forester.html WHY IS SUBARU SELLING THEIR DESIGNS TO OTHER CAR COMPANIES!?!?!?!!? its an exact dupicate of the forester... even the nice H4 engine... and the AWD technology... at least it is only sold in india... is there an explanation for this??? or are they really being stupid??? thanks all... (sorry for my foul language!)
  5. they have a whole set of specs on the thing... http://www.subaru.ca/ just click the links... i am to lazy to actually go and find them for you... i would be happy with that suv if it wasn't so crappy... i was afraid that subaru would fall into the 7 passenger, XUV, and automatic trans pit of doom... i am also pissed that no import companies make a good towing SUV anymore... this things limit, with a bunch of extra stuff, is 3500lbs... you just can't buy one anymore... even the nissan pathfinder can't tow without a bunch of extra stuff... i believe that if thay make the B9 a little more suv, then soccer moms car, then we would buy one to replace my parents 95 isuzu rodeo... that thing can tow 5000lbs... without extra stuff... where did the "utility" in "sport utility vihicle" go???
  6. ok this is how i understand it... GM owns 20% of fuji heavy industries... and fuji owns subaru... BUT GM has no say in what subaru does with their cars... But i also think the joint projects with saab suck balls... the new saab 9X blah blah blah is just an impreza with GM crap in it...i believe it was just a way for GM to compete with subaru...
  7. anybody else having trouble deciphering that web page? its in the wrong language!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! haha... i just wanna see more pics like that one!!! and yes please... give us the specs of that beast...
  8. now i think averybody from the usmb should chip in and make it a reality! haha... thats the pic! thanks handtool...
  9. Hi all, i once saw a picture on here of an outback(or legasy) that was on a huge monster truck frame and tires... i don't think it was real but i think it looks cool... and since i can't seem to find it i was wondering if any of you guys(gals) know where it is... thanks everybody, ps. admins... wasn't quite sure where to post this... move it if you feel it needed...
  10. your just a big taunter aren't you? haha... i want to play...
  11. phone up john bloom(mudrat79) in OR and get him to make you one of these bumpers... http://usmb.net/gallery/album115 its sweet looking and you can hit stuff!!! do a search for him... you can get his #...
  12. depending on what kind of coin...(copper pennies won't work) you could stick a thin magnet in the slot... be sure not to screw up any electrical when you go it though... not to sure about this... but i know for sure that a magnet can crew up a tape(because a tape gets its music recording ability through magnets... not going to explain for those of you who don't know how it works) but is their anything in the cassette player that can get messed up? i don't think so... good luck!
  13. haha wooooo... right now it has summer treads on it... i am to poor to buy new tires... but my spare is an all season tire... and and!!! i finally got a chance to take my parents 2001 legasy L out in the snow... ohhhhhhhh my god that was a blast... i couldn't go for to long though because it was a church parking lot... but my 2 minutes of glory was excellent... i would post the movie that my buddy made but it is 40MB clip... so it is too big for anything here... i am still waiting on the parts that i ordered from john bloom(mudrat79)... after that i can get my 79 moving again... COME ON JOHN... HURRY IT UP... you broke your rim?! that sucks... i got an extra set of rims for my brat... and my dad acused me of wasting my money... then i told him that they were free... then he acused me of taking up space... so i left... sorry for the hyjack... SNOW IS FUN...
  14. you gotta watch out though...running the 6 lug on a 4 lug set up will make it weaker... just don't go off jumps that are to big!

    How to 4X4

welcome to the board!!! the best site to refer to for lift fabricating is www.subarubrat.com he has in depth intructions so its probably your best bet... you could also try john bloom in OR... (mudrat79) give him a call and ask him your questions... do a search... he does this stuff for a living so he is a good resourse... if you can't do it with that info then you probably shouldn't try... good luck!!!
  16. i haven't dealt with such a problem before... but in my 79 there is a skid plate that covers the bottom of the engine plus some tranny... i think... but there are slash guards covering the rest of the front part of the engine bay... they are just thin sheet metal... i'd say that if you bent some sheet metal up you would be safe from more disaster... i don't think that it would take much... a drill, hammer, and some small bolts should do the trick! good luck!
  17. it snowed up here in Vancouver too... of course this is the time that my car isn't working...(although it has never worked for the time i have had it...) so instead i got to boot around in my parents isuzu rodeo... snowy donuts are fun... i couldn't push it as hard as i would a subaru... becuase it might role... but it was still fun!!! good to here that you got out... hopefully my 79 brat will be good in the snow...

    forester lift

first off... Welcome!!! mudrat does good work but your in hawaii... so you would deffinatly have to install it yourself... unless you have lots and lots of money to get your car across the ocean... but ya... mudrat does good work... this is what it looks like after a lift... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=289&sort=1&cat=all&page=1 this is a pic of an older forester though... i wonder what it would look like on an 03... anyway... just thought i would add that... good luck!
  22. So i am getting from this that you aren't even working on the car yourself... that is very bad!!! My 79 got worked on at my school... all it needed was a clutch job a some tranny work... thats it!!! it took them 2-3 months... they torqued my flywheel bolts to 95ft pounds... obviously they snapped like twigs...i spent something like 60 bucks getting replacements... i am still finding things wrong with my car... and i did half the work myself... (i did all the stuff i did right...) so this is what i would do... i would get the car fixed enough so you can drive it outa there... if need be take out the broken front axels and drive it outa there is 4WD(i assume it has it) now here is the downside... even though they broke that stuff... you have to pay for it... here is the second part... he cannot stop you from taking your car... it is yours and as long as you have a permit or something on the car its all good... he can keep your car if you don't pay the bill though... and your friend who as to stay there for two years... don't worry about him... if a car is in danger then nothing else matters!!! especially a subaru!!! now your last option is to leave it there... let them screw around with it for 2 years until it gets so broken that it is unrecognisable... on my final note... they have other cars to work on... one leaving won't be to bad... good luck
  23. Kinda out of your way but mudrat79(John Bloom) makes lift kits for foresters and stuff so i think it would be a safe bet to say that he can make on... do a search on him and in his sig is his phone #... phone him up and ask... good luck
  24. I have been having this idea in the back of my head for some time now so i figured why not now... i am alsways reading posts asking what engine comes in which cars and how much power you can find in them... so i think there should be a reference page that tells you all the engines that subaru has made and what model and year they are from... so on this list i think it should look something like this(i am going to do my car...because its mine...) 1979 Brat 1600cc 65hp S/R 4WD or FWD 4sp manual or 3sp auto ok ya... so thats what i had in mind... a quick reference guide ordered my year... going from 68(thats when the 360 came out right??) all the way up to now... if there is a site that already has all this stuff then please tell me the site... so is anybody up to the task of doing this???
