West Coast Subaru Show 7 Thread (real deal)

i would like to know that too... this year my brat is coming down and would like play around... if it isn't coming its because i killed it... i'm gonna get some insurance on it this weekend... so it will most likely break and will not be able to get repairs for another 3 months... i think Zap's words apply here again: and hey... your gonna have beer mugs again right??? i want one but unfortunatly i have a lack of ability to get beer... i'm still 17... 2 more years people... well... for me... and my canadian legal drinking age of 19... so for now i guess i would fill it with pepsi or something... -
rallitek should start selling fiberglass fender replacements when these lifts start selling... i see them all the time on trucks and what not... give them a real clean look... hopefully we'll see all these new gen vihicles with lifts on them at wcss7!!! can't wait... 93 MORE DAYS! still trying to talk my dad into getting one of John's bumpers for the legacy... but my dad doesn't want to smash through the fence, he just wants to stop in front of it... he kills the fun...
-

Yesterday Jeff and crew came up from washington to give me a hand with my brat... everything went great! i got my brake rotor in and working... the rotor is funny on its own... i couldn't find a rotor here in Canada... i phoned napa, lordco then eventually the dealership... the dealership could get one... but 3 weeks and 80 bucks from japan... well i got mine from Jeff, brand new, for 20 bucks and on the box it said MADE IN CANADA... then we drove it up and down my driveway a bit and made sure it worked... then we went for poutine... it was funny because jeff couldn't figure out how to say poutine... i said it for him a dozen times... then he just pointed at the picture when we ordered... then we went shopping at princess auto... as soon as we got inside and saw a set of ratchet wrenches for 10 bucks they went nuts... i turned away from them for a second then i heard, "OOOOO winch center!" and they were gone... all in all a great day... next weekend i'm gonna go for a drive... maybe i'll roll over mile 30 on the odo! thanks Jeff!
-
damn... now i want to see my parents legacy wagon all "prettied" up...but then i wouldn't get it cleaned... and my dad would be all, "why is the car all muddy?" and there is no way i can pin this on the dog... hmmmmm... good thing my brat is going! i'll get some mud pics maybe next weekend... assuming i can find mud...
-
BUMPPPPP... knowbody got ANY idea???
-
ya it will probably be a huge deal... they make those dashes hard to get at now... so you can't roll back the odo... although its a digi odo... so i dunno how you would do it... but ya... you can probably get a dash when you get there... and hey... it says KM in little #'s doesn't it??? and speaking of the odo... i recall from the dealership that you can change the odo somehow to miles and KM by pushing a button or plugging something in... my memory was pretty vague though... might have been a dream... i go to the dealership a lot in my sleep...

-

Companies that use Subaru powerplants, helpful sites, etc
Zefy replied to ShawnW's topic in Subaru Transplants
i like it! just think of the options if they did those kits for the 2.2! -
maybe you should talk to somebody who has actually done it... like me!!! ok here is were i will start off... ITS NOT WORTH IT!!! i did it for my lovely 79 brat... and i am still paying the price... maybe it will be different for a new car but this was my experiance.... first off... you do ahve to pay duty... you ALWAYS have to pay duty... the free trade that we got going with the US is a bunch of anal poo... for my car($1100 american) i payed $120 or some # like that in duty... now remember that was for a $1100 car... could you imagine it for a $30,000 one??? i'll tell you what it would be... about $3300 in duty... (assuming its a % thing which i am sure it is... i believe its around 6%... and don't forget you still have to pay(canadian) tax on top of that because something is being sold to you...) next on my list... having AC cost money... 100 bucks or something... i had to argue a little at the boarder because my car says AC on the consol but there isn't any... now here comes the FUN part... to drive the car into the Canada you need some canadian insurance... and can you guess what you need to get canadian insurance(even a day permit or something)??? you need it to be registered in Canada... and guess what! you can't get it registered in Canada until it is IN CANADA!!! so what does that leave you??? you need a trailer... And NO... you cannot use a dolly that just lifts up the front wheels... not only does it fubar the AWD but it is also illegal!!!(in Canada of course...) you need to once again have to have canadian insurance on the car before using the dolly... ok so that leaves you with one option... a full auto-hauler trailer... now they don't cost much to rent(50 bucks) but finding a suitible vihicle that can haul 5000+lbs is a little harder... unless you got like a big pick-up... our isuzu had a tough time doing it with my brat... hasn't run quite right ever sinse... So now you have it in Canada... now what? well you have to get it inspected... and there are 2 inspections you have to go through... provincial VI(vihicle inspection) and federal VI... both of which can be done at crappy tire... i think 80 bucks or something... a new WRX will pass obviously...79 brat might be a little tougher in my case...(FYI... i have had the car for over a year and that is the step i am at now...YAY!!!) and once you got all the done... you can treat it as a real Canadian car...(aircare of course!) now once you break it all down... your still saving a couple grand... and maybe since it is a new car you can pinch some of the rules that i had to follow... But its a HUGE hassle... its up to you if you think it is worth it...

Need help with a logo for this year's WCSS
Zefy replied to ezapar's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
oh crap! i wouldn't be able to deside... i like subarutex's and OZified's... and TheSubaruJunkie's... hmmm... I'd go... but hey you really gotta think about this... last year i was the only Canadian to venture down to OR... and now this year, since it is closer, i believe there are 8(thats a rough guess...) going this year... the closer it is the more people from the surrounding location would go... i bet if it were in California there would be oodles more people from California going... and Ken is right... since it IS all them doing all the work for these events it makes sense for them to have it near them... time for me to step up... its in Canada next year boys and girls! bring your rain coats! nah... ignore that last part... -
My new find.. EA81 dune/swamp buggy

ya i want to see this thing... PICS!!!!! -
ok so i got my clutch replaced and i rebuilt(kinda) my tranny... but now when i do down the road in 4WD it slips out of and back into FWD... John(mudrat) told me that it was an adjustment thing on the trans but he didn't tell me how to do it... instead of bothering him constantly(seriously i phoned him 3 times today...) i am turning to you helpful people of the USMB... thanks!

no no... i said he was the guru of BC... we have lesser gurus... (and its not because i am Canadian...) haha i have no knowhow... pffft... for instance: put my front hub, axle and brakes back together today... and realized i had put the oil seals in backwards AND had my axle in the tranny up-side-down... didn't realize the axle thing at first and put it all back together after fixing the seals, then getting the spring pin stuck in the tranny stub and couldn't get it out so i drill it... drill bit breaks IN the tranny stub... GRRRRRR... i'm not really sure if my car wants to be driven... maybe a d/r will lighten my cars mood???
-
unfortunatly... i didn't catch the guy in time... somebody already bought it... but i know who bought it... he is apparently the suby guru of BC and he said that it has the side mounted starter... but i'm not sure i believe him because A: all of you guys say different and B: he didn't actually look... he just went off by his memory... so hmmm... i am checking him out later this week i think... never met him and i am going to start using him as my new parts guy...(better then getting everything from the states and waiting a year for the parts to arrive in the mail!) i will investigate... second... my logical mind tells me that if the 81 brat has a top mounted starter... then shouldn't every 81(gl, dl, whatever! as long as its EA81 d/r) have the top mounted starter bellhousing??? or did they make 2 different ones??? if this is do-able all i think i will need is the tranny, linkages and the xmember...(i dought it will fit onto my s/r xmember) then i will have that great lower gearing that i am sure will save me (and whoever i am hauling outa the snow filled ditch!!! ) from sure disaster... OHHH and good news... after many months(3 to be exact!) of ordering and loosing barings and a throttle cable(FYI an EA81 cable will fit into a gen 1 pedal if you mod it a little!) in the mail a couple of times i have finally gone to the dealership and spent more money and bought a set from them and they are in the process of being installed(i'm a slow worker!)... and i had to stop and get my rotor machined because it somehow got hugely FUBARed... within a couple days i should be clocking in a few more miles onto my BRAT!!! until something else brakes... (seriously... 27 miles so far... i have had it for OVER a year and a half!!!) should be a good day for Greg! oh ya... i bought a full tank of gas about 3 months ago... you think its still usable??? late all!!!
