  1. yep, that's a pretty good synapsis. FWIW, the stock EJ22e makes an EA car scoot in a serious way. it's amazing how the torque curve really makes it scoot. I've been driving my stock EJ22e-swapped loyale for almost a year now. and 2nd gear puts an ear-to-ear grin on my face EVERY time. now I'm delivering pizzas in it....and still love it to death. that being said, I intend to throw about 5 psi of belt-driven boost at it late this summer/fall, and see if the ECU can compensate. if not, I'll wire in a PP6 piggyback ECU, and tune it myself there's a guy here in MN that's been driving his '97 impreza L EJ22e with 230k miles on it for 10 months with a WRX TD04 turbo, WRX TMIC, and EJ22t injectors (no engine management mods, or engine work). daily driving it, with zero issues. He's a little crazy, so I wouldn't recommend going THAT far....but it does show you just how tough these motors are!
  2. very cool. wow, that thing looks amazing! is that a recent pic?
  3. I assume you're referring to the '83 wagon in your profile... I think 215/75r15 works well on a subaru. yields lots of ground clearance, without sacrificing too much gearing. what kind of tread to get is entirely up to you. and depends on your budget, preferences, and uses. you said it'll be just trails, nothing too extreme, but how much of it's life will it spend on these trails vs the road. if it's going to serve Daily Driver status, and you don't want to spend much at all, you can't beat the Uniroyal Liberator A/Ts from Wal-Mart. got some tread (for an A/T), real quiet on the highway, and far cheaper than anything else. you could take a step up to BFG A/Ts. better tread, better treadlife.....higher cost. there isn't much available for a mud tire at that size. The Super Swamper, of course. But those make crappy road tires. you could get some SUV All-seasons (Mud and Snow tires). I've had some all seasons with better tread than any A/T I've seen, and for a decent price. and will usually yield good treadlife too.
  4. uhhh....if it doesn't have a tcase...how ya drivin it? just RWD?
  5. Looks hot! I like the Subaru too seriously though, looks awesome. divorced tcase? what size tires?
  6. 3" lift and 29s: there's an easy solution to rubbing.....called a hammer. or if it's really bad, a sawzall or similar heavy duty cutting tool (I used a die grinder with a cutoff wheel on mine)
  7. you can only use the outback struts in the front....you'll still need to do something else in the rear. MorganM's old PoopenVagon (I owned it for a few months, now a buddy has had it for most of a year) has a 3" kit, with stock struts, and 29" tires...

you had the image tags right, but you entered the wrong URL for the pic. right click on the picture in the gallery, and select copy image location. then paste that into your post.
  9. looks hott.....you've got your work cut out for ya, but it would be awesome once completed. planning on doing it to that wagon?
  10. not even close....I check 10 every day. I don't think all XT turbo's got air suspension (either that or the few that I've seen have been converted). if I had the space, and that opportunity, I'd be all over it. but there's only one XT here in town, and it's so rotted out, it's just not worth it.
  11. Man....I don't miss that :-\ My blue wagon was permanently caked with crap. on the video, you might try putfile.com. they just jacked their video limit up to 200Mb for a single file.
  12. or, make 2 cuts and you don't have to bend anything. I like to use a dremel with a reinforced cutoff wheel.
  13. I've got that stuff....haven't tried it yet though.
  14. pedal box shift linkage drive shaft gauge cluster (optional)
  15. yea, looks pretty straightforward.....just have to do it :-\
  16. yep, spent quite a bit more on shipping than I did on the kit itself..... yea, I can definitely see where the double sided tape was. the rear spats will need some modding in order to get them to sit flush, but it won't be too bad. just a matter of making the time to do it.
  17. I did, I had it on there when I went to Home Depot....didn't like it at all. I think it looks hott painted to match the body.
  18. the driveshafts are the same as long as they're both Manuals (I think all the EA82 body styles had the same wheelbase....someone please correct me if I'm wrong). the driveshaft for an auto will slip right into the trans, but will come up a few inches short. rear axles are the same aswell.
  19. got a BIG box from California today....wish I had taken a pic of the box..... but, in it, was this: a guy on Nasioc was selling it...I can't remember the last time I saw an RX body kit for sale, so I snatched it up. test fitting: wasn't intending on actually installing it until I got the $$ to paint the whole car. but I was in Home Depot, and saw some "Dark Night Metallic" Rust-o-leum that looked like it would match my car very well.....so I bought it. cleaned the air dam, painted it, and: maybe in the next couple weeks, I'll paint and install the rest of the kit.
  20. of course! I knew that, I got my center difflock stuff from a PT4WD loyale....Thanks for the corrrection so yea, if you're going from a Push-button PT4WD car to a single range FT4WD one, the linkage, vacuum solenoids, and wiring won't need to be changed. you might need to be a bit creative about the wiring off the actual tranny (neutral switch, reverse switch, 4WD switch...).
  21. I hear ya! I can't stand FWD....and if you don't get offroad much, the 4WD is pretty useless. anyway, the newer trannies cannot be used without swapping to the newer engine too (which, I'd highly recommend....but that may be a bigger project than you are looking for). Any turbo EA82 *could* have a FT4WD tranny. they all (well...the 5-speed manuals anyway) have a locking center diff, so you won't lose the full-lock capability. the RX had a dual range FT4WD version. cool idea, but in my opinion, the application of the idea fell short. the gears are so short, that it's rather pointless.... anyway, to do the swap, you'll need axles (the turbo trannies have 25 spline inner stubs instead of the N/A's 23), shift linkage, the vacuum solenoids/lines (mounted to the drivers side strut tower) and some electrical work to make the center lock work, and the rear diff (turbos use a 3.7:1 Axle ratio, compared to the N/As 3.9). it's not exactly a simple swap...as many things will need to be swapped to make it all work. BUT, no fabrication will be needed. everything is a direct bolt-in.
  22. MorganM took the rear seat out of the PoopenVagon because the seatbelts tore out just like yours. there were huge holes in the floorboards all over the place, one of the rear tow points FELL off the thing. car had 150k miles on it when the speedo cable broke.....5 years ago or so. it's been a MN car it's entire existance. nothing major has failed yet. including 5 years of hard wheeling on the rocks of the iron range of northern MN, it's fair share of air time. with a BYB lift kit (framerails tweaked numerous times). now, that thing is a total POS (there's a reason I didn't charge it's current owner anything when I passed it on). my point, rust at that level will be virtually impossible to get rid of. BUT, I don't think for a second that it's grounds to give up entirely. certainly not reason to stop loving him any less. Just another sign that he's seen better days.
  23. big meats on a legacy: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59196
  24. they're on contract, so they don't pay directly.... BUT, we get $5 for doing it, and I talked the manager into giving me double mileage because if I hadn't been there, it would've required 2 cars.
  25. it's certainly worth showing off though. HOTTTTT wagon!!
