  1. <<I need to replace the motor and the crossmember mounts on my SVX.>> engine mount might but i doubt it. what crossmember mount are you refering to?
  2. <<Those are cute, but THIS is what I want to see available.>> they are, unless they sold out already. look here: http://content.subaru.com/sub/media/pdf/brochure/2006_Specb_with_pr.pdf
  3. <<Actually the accessory position is provided as a means to NOT burn the coil out during extended accessory usage. Now leaving the key in the ignition position with the engine not running might present a problem... with points anyway, I'm not 100% sure this applies to transistor-triggered ignition.>> i think its more along the lines of having the perfect power piggyback and the wiring for it wired a different way.
  4. << I had my hatch open for an hour or more listening to music while we worked. >> you burned the coil out with the key left on the accesory position.
  5. <<This of course required that the timing belt be taken out and put back in.>> you didn't re-use the old timing belt did you?
  6. <<Drive home, everything is fine, seems that the engine just didn't have coolant. >> how exactly did you fill the engine with coolant? did you bleed all the air out?
  7. check the 3 basics. 1. air 2. fuel 3. spark let us know what you have/don't have
  8. <<i dont think that its a gas problem at all. that sounds EXACTLY like what my legacy was doing when the MAF sensor went bad. (i don't know how car savvy you are, so: MAF sensor - A sensor that is attached to the air intake that measures the amount of air the engine is sucking in. this, in turn, tells the engine how much fuel to used based on the air/fuel mixture. air intake - open your hood, it's that long black plastic thing that comes out the back of the engine.) sorry, i hope i'm not insulting your intelligence or anything. i just dont want you to be confused.>> the 05's don't have a MAF sensor.
  9. <<970subaru I am actually building an ej22e block/sohc ej25 head motor right now as well. reliability should be fine.>> what size head gaskets are you mating to your 2.2 block? the 2.5 ones or the 2.2 ones? Thanks 970, that is exactly what I needed to hear! I have to go with SOHC as I have clearance between my frame rails (just). DOHC heads will not fit. they should fit on any legacy or impreza. there wasn't much of a size difference in the SOHC and the DOHC heads.
  10. <<So what's the word currently on the torque for the pulley bolt? Is it still 110 pound-feet?>> tighten the crank pulley as tight as you can get it. don't worry, you won't strip it. just make sure its on as tight as you can get it so it doesn't come loose on you.
  11. a wobbly pulley could be the effect of 3 things: 1. crank pulley broken 2. crank pully not tightened down enough 3. keyway on crankshaft ruined
  12. << I need an owner's manual for my 97OBW...I see lots on ebay for 1997 Legacy; did the Outbacks have a different manual?>> if you call up Subaru (1-800-SUBARU) they should send you one for free. i think i'm missing a digit on the phone #, i'll see if i can find the right # for you Subaru of America Phone: 856-488-8500 Toll free: 800-782-2783 Fax: 856-488-0485 Website: www.subaru.com
  13. <<i've done EJ22, EJ25, EA82, ER27...but never and EG33 timing belt and water pump. might be helping a friend out with his. much different than the other subaru's. if it's about as easy as those i'm willing to help this guy out. inteference or not?>> easy to do. i used to do SVX 60K/120K service at my shop for $350 the EG33 is technically an interference engine like all DOHC's, but it has cam gears that keep timing along with the belt. so unless you destroy the cam gears (very unlikely) your fine if your snap the belt.
  14. does this happen when the car has been driven for a distance and is still hot/warm?
  15. <<Erm.....they were on the 1989 Legacy Turbos >> yeah, but he needs the hood to fit his 1995 legacy.
  16. <<i usually get new lifters if the engine has a lot of mileage on it, so i cant answer you there. i would strongly suggest NOT cleaning them.>> 2.5 DOHC heads do not have lifters....
  17. <<Anyone care to let me know what "SEFI" in 2.5L H4 SEFI DOHC 16V means?>> S sequential E electronic F fuel I injection
  18. the two belt system the manual shows is from the EA-82 motor thats also a 1.8 your single belt 1.8 is a EJ-18. i'm pretty certain the 1.8 and 2.2 single belt systems are for the most part, the same.
  19. <<This in a car that spent 90% of its life cruising a rural freeway at 70 MPH.>> i would have bought the 5-speed. you would have been problem free then.
  20. you have a 105,000 timing belt on your vehicle. and as timpappas said, change your water and oil seals while your in there.
  21. I'm just finishing up a 2.2T rebuild. The sealant I always use is 3M Ultrapro high temp gasket silicone, part #051135-08672. you won't have a problem forming big clumps in the engine if you use the right amount.
