Timing Belt change
svxpert replied to rweddy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX<<I do not think you need the camshaft cover o-rings. If I recall properly, those are for the back end of the engine where there is a cover over the back end of the camshaft. You just need the oil seals.>> on the passenger side of the engine, the cam cover o-rings are in the rear. the drivers side, there in the front. both are easily accessable, just 3 bolts. you should replace these while your in there. there only a few $$.

Crankshaft Pulley Shaking
svxpert replied to Roamer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX<<So my question is could he have wrecklessly done something wrong in reinstalling the pulley?>> yeah, he didn;t torque it down properly and it worked itself loose. i've seen this alot of times. mostly because people don't have the proper tools for the job. you better have this looked at soon before it digs into your crankshaft, thwn your really screwed!

Still can't get the cam sprockets off
svxpert replied to jfm2112's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX<<Boy, Subaru missed the mark with this 2.5 DOHC. I just wanted to fix a few leaking cam seals, and it's turned into a huge fiasco.>> Its funny how everyone who tries to do a project with the wrong tools and very little experience blames Subaru on poor engine design. There is a reason Subaru sells service manuals and the correct tools. Here is a pic of tools you will/would need to get the cam sprokets off.

flushing coolant w/ questionable HG
svxpert replied to dDigitalPimp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX<<i have a 99 legeacy wagon 2.5 which had its head gasket redone around 60k. im now a little under 90k(so 30k on the new gasket). i added a half a bottle of coolant conditioner right after the gasket was redone(about a year ago). on the bottle it says to add a half bottle (for 4 cyl.) once a year to ensure protection. coolant conditioner from subaru is only for the External coolant leak. It will not fix the internal leak. it sounds to me that you have the internal leak. << i talked to a guy at work today who knows his stuff(i really dont) and he said that coolant conditioner can cause your oil to turn to sludge and then start to burn off. >> obviously, he doesn't know subaru's. coolant and oil don't come into contact with each other in a healthy engine. if he means the internal leak, then it will eventually ruin the oil. maybe thats what he means.

97 Outback Sport timing belt
svxpert replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXno need to replace the tensioner, they don't go bad unless there damaged. do the cam, and crank seals, re-seal the oil pump. you might want to do the water pump because when you get the 105,000 belt on, the water pump will be that much older.

2006 Subaru Impreza
svxpert replied to SubaruFreak's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX<<I do have a question about the 2006 Imprezas: From rumors that I have seen on the web, the Impreza will get the 173 hp 2.5 liter engine that the new Forester will have and the WRX will get the 230 hp turbo engine in the 2006 Forester XT. Will this make the WRX an Impreza XT? Is this a good/bad/neutral thing? How will this engine compare with the 227 hp 2.0 liter engine currently in the WRX? Should I run out and buy another 2005 WRX?>> here are the specs for the 06' Impreza 2.5L HP 173 TQ 166 2.5L TURBO HP 230 TQ 235 STi HP 300 TQ 300

Hood Scoops, when and why?
svxpert replied to Spokane-Pete's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX<<Although, the 91-94 turbo legacies didnt have an intercooler so they also were kinda non-functional!>> actually is is functional, there is a factory pipe that funnels the air down to cool the turbo.

Imagine, Transmission failure @ 90,000 on 2000 L Wagon!!
svxpert replied to RJC's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX<<We changed the transmission fluid at 62,000 miles (transmission flush).>> thats a long time between changes. when my SVX had a auto trans, i would change 4 quarts out every other oil change. i guess thats just piece of mind, but its only 1$ a quart for tranny fluid, compared to $$$$ for a tranny.

is the turbo oil pump different from the na version?
svxpert replied to XSNRG's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX<<The oil cooler does not go into the oil pump. The pump is different on the turbo legacy. It outputs a higher pressure due to the fact it has oil squirters in the block.>> yup, thats right. i just looked at the 2.2T i'm building, the water pump has the xtra lines not the oil pump. like 777 said, just a higher output.
