  1. I second the checking of the carrier bearing. Should also check the bushing above the rear diff. Helped replace one a couple weeks ago after discovering that it was NOT in fact a bad wheel bearing. Made god awful noise that we could hear from another car while at freeway speed!
  2. Well think about it, you know of plenty of people on there that have done a 2" lift with 13, 14, and 15 inch wheels right? Find the tire sizes that have been running and turn it into a 16 inch wheel size. Simple math kid.
  3. Hint: One that says 16R at the end. You're a big kid, do the math and figure it out.
  4. Pm me Pics of how bad they are? My stock GL ones are TOTALLY trashed, the part you sit on slides around independent of the rails coming to a stop etc. It's my work car so they're gonna get greasy anyhow...
  5. Random fact here that a lot of people don't realize. You're car doesn't run out of oil when it no longer shows on the dipstick. The dipsticks on auto applications typically show 1qt from the full line to the low line. Out of a total capacity of 4-6 qts depending on the engine. So even if it was a little under the low line, you still have 75-85% of your oil capacity still in the engine. Not saying you shouldn't fix it ASAP, it's just not AS big of a deal as some make it out to be.
  6. To start with the GT's aren't SUPER common. And then on top of that, like you said EVERYBODY wants them. It's more rare to find somebody that is willing to let go of them than just about any other stock sube wheel.
  7. This fellow's car never had it since he owned it, as it appears. Only picture I see of a blue with one of the chins is the guy he bought the trunk lid from.... EDIT: I stand corrected. Went all the way back to the start of the thread and there it is. I dunno either.
  8. Dibs on the factory RX seats if they aren't totally trashed?
  9. I would dig around in the car and see if there are any interesting interior bits that will swap over. Also, check the XT boards and see if they have any uncommon/hard to find bits that they are always scrambling for.
  10. Just HAD to ruin those snowflakes with some paint didn't you.....:banghead: I know, I know, it's his stuff and he can do what he wants. I just hate seeing nice and uncommon sets of wheels get rattle canned like that.
  11. How slow are you going that it is bubbling the paint?!?!?! I've done a LOT of skinny wheel cutting, and have never ever had that problem:eek:
  12. That was a question actually. Oh well, you're talented enough you will get something to work. Make sure to post lots of pictures!
  13. New age imprezas use a post type mount instead of a three bolt/pillow ball type mount like the fronts use?
  14. what's your plan for the coilovers? Custom mounts for the rear and GC8 Pillowball/camber adjustment plate deals for the front?
  15. Hurry up and get it in the car already!
  16. I would think that the additional cost of the premium would be more than the offset in fuel economy that you see. I run 87 from Safeway in my wagon(22-28) and the truck(13-20), only the bike gets Premium wherever I stop.
  17. 100 pounds isn't really THAT noticeable in these cars. I carry double that just in my tools when I work out of town, plus my clothes, mini barbecue, etc.etc. Still pulls 85-90 just fine.
  18. D'oh, didn't even think to look for that sort of thing. My millwright brethren would be ashamed! I'm sure that it's just that I was discouraged by the large amount of GOOP on everything. I'll give her another swing come morning.
  19. Well, gentlemen, more trouble in paradise. Went to clean up my parts today with the wire wheel, and all was going well. Until i decided to finally pull the ball joint out of the "good" 97 Impreza knuckle that I still had. Got the clamp bolt out and noticed that it was threaded for the entire length of the shank. D'oh, alarms are going off in my head. Somebody has had this apart before, and didn't put it back together correctly. On top of the bolt being of the incorrect type, all but three of the threads on said bolt had been smashed into oblivion! But wait, it gets better! I think that I'll just go get the right bolt when I go to re-assemble my knuckle, so I go to spread the ball joint ears a bit with my trusty little chisel and hammer. One LIGHT little tap and I hear a slight popping noise. Dafuq?!?! Upon closer inspection, the balljoint retainer ear thingy now has a visible crack from the split where it clamps down on the balljoint, all the way to the front of the knuckle. Congratulations, Nic, you just ruined ANOTHER Subaru part! So I give my nearest p n p a call to see if the legacy that I pulled my other knuckle/hub off of is still in the yard. SCORE! Three hours, much frustration, and almost 100 miles of driving later, I've got the other GOOD knuckle off the 94 Lego wagon that I pulled some other parts off of a few weeks ago. So now I've got: 94 Legacy Knuckles/Hubs 97 Impreza OBW Calipers and Rotors minus ALL the ABS/Backing plate BS 97 Impreza OBW Struts/Tophats ?? WRX STI front strut springs ?? XT6 Control arms and radius rods. 84 GL TRE's 97 Impreza Balljoints Waiting on being able to pick up some iPike 17's from a board member next weekend, have them mounted on my WRX wheels, and then the parts swapping commences! Will get pictures of my cleaned/painted parts up soon.
  20. Trying to reboot/change out the inner cups on some XT6 axles that I picked up for my five lug swap. Got the boot slid off the transmission end, got the cup off, got the balls and outer race off, got the snap ring off, but can't for the life of me get the darn inner race off the splines. I can get it to come up flush with the end of the splines but no further. I've already read Numbchux's USRM article on this subject, but no mention of these inner races sticking at all. I did try lightly tapping on the race towards the off end of the splines with a deadblow hammer, but I was skittish about dinging up the race or the splines. Any advice or should I just try hitting it harder/find a press?
  21. Just to clarify, by bouncing, do you mean a side to side type wiggle that shakes the whole car? Like a domestic with a big block and a lumpy cam?:Flame:
  22. Picked up some 17" wheels from an 08 impreza today. Guy swapped them out for some Konigs cuz he curbed a couple of them and one is particularly ugly, but not bent so as to cause any problems. SCORE! I will get them cleaned up and possibly either paint them or get them powder coated. Pictures to come.
  23. Mine does the same thing, didn't use to before I did the HG's and exhaust. Doesn't seem to be hurting anything, just feels weird.
