A stock LSD will bolt up from a newer Subaru IF you swapped out transmissions as well. Otherwise, you'll have to swap some of the internals and such from a different LSD into an open diff. Its not hard at all though. I'll see if I can get a link to the swap. You might wanna look for 87-89 Full Time 4WD Rx's at the junkyards they have a 3.7 LSd in them. Also, some 89 xt6's have been said to have a 3.9 LSd which WOULD be a bolt in swap for your wagon, but good luck I don't think I have seen a single one for sale since I've been here.

So I've got this EA81 sitting inside that we took out of my lifted Brat, and I started to tear it down today as kind of a winter/learning project. I've never torn into an engine before and I kinda want to see what its made of. I PLAN on maybe rebuilding someday if I don't break anything from now til then. So far this engine is NASTY, its got burned antifreeze all over it from the major carb leak it had on the way back from WCSS7, its got a bad oil leak from the oil pump, and so far 2 of the bolts on the intake manifold have snapped off. I may be able to get them out still. So my questions are: -Are there any special tools required to tear this puppy down? -Any tips on what should be done to it performance wise? -Any general tips for rebuilds, anything I need to know? Thanks for the help, I'll get pics soon.

Here's a tip for everyone while at the junkyards: CHECK THE REAR TOOL PANELS ON ALL EA82's. I went to the local junkyard the other day and came away with: - Brand new timing belt still in oem box - 36 mm impact socket:slobber: - 2 Brand new flathead screwdrivers - 2 Subaru lug sockets still in subaru pouches - 1 combo 12 and 14 mm wrench and 1 combo 8 and 10mm wrench And Pick and Pull didn't even charge me cause they figured they were my tools:lol: So check those guys would ya? You never know what may have been left in them.

Could you? That'd be great! Thanks.

Yeah I wheeled with him at wcss7 as well, got some good footage of him in our makeshift "mud pit":) Its good to see the hood is back on as well.

Hrm, all right. Thanks.

Has anyone converted a third eye to work on a gen 1 Brat? I was thinking it would be cool to do.

Sweet score! Sorry I couldn't make it, work wasn't even that busy and I got off at like 4:45 too and could've left earlier. Oh well, I wanna see you up here in the rx when you get it going all right? Have fun with the rebuild! -

But no offroad course? I think if there was an area where all the offroad soobs could have a "contest" it might make a LOT more of us get up there. -
What kind of parts does one usually bring with on LONG road trips? I'm sure antifreeze, oil, spare, jack are all key items, but what else? Belts too I'm sure.

If ya head thruogh Reno, we'd be glad to have ya! -
I carry one with me and right now I DO have it behind the seats. When I get my bumpers and rollbar, I'll figure out how to mount it to that. I used mine at wcss7 to swap my street tires with the swampers and it worked pretty well.

Carb Block VS. Turbo Block (EA82T Rebuild)
Jibs replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'd go with the carbed block Brian, I *think* that runnung your turbo engine with the boost up high might've had something to do with it blowing up, but thats my opinion. But it is up to you and I know that the california smog guys are monsters for emissions so.... Its up to you. -
Thats nutz!! I might have to try that the next time I go snowboarding. They usually have big open parking lots,
