  1. I think he's trying to tell you why it's bad now. Of course it was fine/didn't do that before until it broke The reason why it probably broke was because you drove it hard. Drive older cars hard, and things tend to break...
  2. Damn that's a beautiful car, and I haven't even seen the outside I sure wish I had that type of money lying around :-\ :slobber:
  3. I was browsing around Harbor Freight the other day and they had a couple different types of plastic welding kits. I think that the cheapest one was about $45 or something like that. Seemed to come with everything you need to get the job done. First time I had seen anything like that before.
  4. +1 for those tires. Rockin' the exact same ones, without studs. About an inch bigger than stock. Been a great tire so far! 5,000 miles and hardly any wear...
  5. Just for future sake, please post a new reply when there is an update instead of editing the first post. That way if people are looking in the future for the same symptoms, they can see what your car was doing, and then see what you did to fix it. By editing the first post, you lose all the context for your fix, and there is no indication of what was causing your problem :-\ Also, what if they symptoms come back? You will have to repost your original post to get help, or post a new post asking the same thing :-\ Not raggin' on ya or anything, just trying to make it easier for folks to see from what you did to fix your problem Glad you got it working!
  6. When I said that I didn't realize it was you Once I found it was actually your car, the small tires made sense I am hoping to make it, but we shall see what the wife says I will be around for sure, I love my subie! Keep up the good work man, can't wait to see this thing with swampers and a D/R!
  7. Ya, the only way I got that screw clamp off was with angled tip pliers. I thought that there should be some sort of other clamp to use, I will look into getting a spring clamp and using that instead of zip ties Good ole zip ties came through in a pinch though for sure! I would honestly say that so far the ea82t hasn't been THAT bad for me. I think that I am one of the lucky few that has an ea82t that was well taken care of and treated properly. Other than this coolant leak, the damn thing just runs and doesn't leak a drop so I can't complain at all. I love this car! It has it's few quirks, but so far I actually like this motor. Yes, a pain to work on, but hey, I guess if I can fix an ea82t, then I can fix almost any subaru! At least I keep telling myself that Don't get me wrong, as soon as the ea82t starts giving me trouble, I will be calling you GD to help me with my EJ swap
  8. I feel dumb One of the main reasons it over heating was because it was missing about 3/4 of a gallon of fluid. I thought that "reserve" bottle would drain if the car needed water, but apparently I was wrong. The reserve tank was full, but the rad was basically empty :-\ I also managed to find my actual leak this time, at least I HOPE this is the last thing I have to deal with. It was the line that goes from the under intake to the AAV. What a PITA that sucker is. How are you supposed to get a hose clamp on that thing without taking the intake off? Seriously, I had to rip the hose off, and then use a pair of pliers to pull the hose clamp off. Luckily it was one of the hose clamps that has two "rings" around it, so it pulled off easily, but now I can't get a new hose clamp on it. Well, I can get the hose clamp on it, I just can't tighten it. I ended up using a couple zip ties, because that's the only way I can get anything to be tight in that spot. I know, I know, zip ties are not ideal at all, but what else am I supposed to do beside remove the intake? I really don't want to do that at all :-\ I will post pictures in a bit to show what I am talking about...
  9. DAMN! I walked by when you guys where getting out! I seriously turned to my wife and said, "That's a lifted legacy, I would really like to have once of those someday. There's a guy on my forums that's lifting his and this reminds of that one. I wonder why he doesn't have nicer tires on it…" No joke about that either. I knew I should have said something! Serves me right for being "shy" once in my life. Well, it was nice to almost meet ya!
  10. Did you happen to stop by Leavenworth this weekend? I was there Saturday and Sunday and saw a lifted wagon looking kinda like yours there while I was walking around the town...
  11. The one thing that I have learned is, to each their own, and who cares what others think! People might question me on why I like my auto trans and tell me to swap it out, but I like my auto 4EAT, and screw what you all think One of the biggest reason I love my subie is because I can make it my own. They are easy to work on and take apart, so they are also easy to customize. I have added a whole bunch of options to my car and I love it! I might not spend that much money myself, but I also have a lot of other projects and a wife But either way it looks good and it looks like you know what you are doing when it comes to installing things like that. I bet those lights seriously brighten up the inside like day! Keep it up dude!
  12. Today on my way to work, the car almost overheated I did not get into the red, I pulled over and let it cool down, but I turned around and took him home :-\ What's the easiest way to get rid of this air bubble? Should I just drain and fill it? I really don't have the money to do that, but if that's going to be the only way I can get rid of this bubble... Is this the best way to drain and fill? It's for an EJ, so does it apply to EA's? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21681 Thanks!
  13. I like how you ran the power wire, good stuff! I think I will copy you when I get around to installing my stereo someday. Looks good, keep it up man!
  14. It's great! I like it sooo much better. I really didn't notice the difference until I installed my DCCD knob and tried out the FWD mode. Now that I have been driving it around for a little bit now, I really like the legacy TCU better for the AWD. When I used to gun it with the old TCU, the tires would spin, and there was a jolt when the back wheels kicked in. Kinda like nothing to the rear, and then all the power at once. Not gradual and sounded/felt horrible. Now it's super smooth and gradual and I don't even notice that the rear wheels have kicked in at all. At first I thought it was because my tires where new and warmed up, and there wasn't too much water on the road, so that's why I wasn't slipping, but when I turned on FWD mode and drove it around, the tires where spinning all the time! I was really surprised. I didn't even think that the AWD was working since I couldn't feel the jolt and there was no tire slippage, but running around in FWD mode made me realize it was working all the time, and working great to boot! No more jolts, and, most importantly, no more wheel slip! So far the toggles are working good. I need to do something about the design though. Keep me updated as to what you do. I might want to copy your ideas, it's not like I haven't done that already I didn't use hollow tubing, it's solid aluminum, but it's super light and does the trick. Hollow tubes should work as well.
  15. Update: On my break at work, I went into our parking garage and parked the car on an incline, took the rad cap off, and let the engine warm up. The radiator was higher than the heater core I believe. The incline I was parked on was about 45 degrees or so. Well, nothing changed. I let the car warm up and the temp went to right above the half way point and stayed there. I sat there for about an 1/2 hour, and then took it on a short drive. It got a little hotter on the drive, but it wasn't near the red. I then parked to see if it would cool down, and the temp stayed the same. I must have an air bubble, but a simple park it and let it warm up on an incline didn't help or burp it. Did I do that right? I didn't have the resources or the time to try anything else on my break, so what should I try next? I am kinda at a loss :-\ Thanks!
  16. Ok, so now I have yet another problem. It's not leaking anymore, but it's getting hotter than it has in the past. It's getting up to the halfway mark, but not any higher, but that's hotter than it's ever run before, and that was before I fixed my coolant system Before I replaced my heater core, the temp would sit about an 1/8 to a little more than 1/4 of the way up the gauge, not halfway. So I am thinking that this is most likely an air bubble? If it's not an air bubble, anyone got any other ideas on what it might be? Also what's the easy way to bleed the system if it is an air bubble? I have never had to bleed a coolant system before... Thanks all! Edit: Link I found to bleeding the system: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45849&highlight=bleed+cooling Is this the easiest way to do it?
  17. I guess a size check on this new alt would be in order as well, before I go jumping to conclusions on this too... Splinter: Could you measure the size of the case so that I could compare it to mine and see what the differences are? Thanks for the help GD. I will have to research this some more and find out an answer for us turbo owners :-\ Gotta love that turbo!
  18. That doesn't bode well for me then :-\ I have the alt in between the PS and the AC compressor. What are my options then? Am I screwed :-\
  19. Pretty sure they are the same car, just with a different name. I don't really know with an RS, but I think it's just a rebranded RX. Have fun!
  20. I guess I should ask this, but I think I know the answer, I just want to verify… Will this work in an EA82? I see splinter has a brat, but from what I have read from GD, the brat's just use an ea82 alt nowadays, so this should work on an ea82, but I just wanted to make sure Thanks!
  21. After tightening all my hose clamps again, my leak went away. I think it was coming from the turbo outlet cooling hose, because that one had a few turns left in it I checked and tightened those earlier too. Oh well. I have new hose clamps that I am going to put on there, but as of now I am not leaking any more antifreeze! Glad that it was something simple. I am going to replace all my hoses but not until next weekend. I am just glad that I am not leaking anymore, what a relief! Thanks all for the help!
  22. The loyale is the GL rebranded. GL-10 was a trim line with all the options (intermittent windshield wipers, rear cargo light and cover, things like that), turbo was optional. Turbo was optional on the loyale as well. They also offered the 4EAT from 1987.5 to 1990, mostly, if not only, in the turbo models, then subaru put the 4EAT into the legacy and removed it from the loyale line and stuck the loyale with the 3at after 1990 as well as removing the turbo option I believe. You can get the stuff off a loyale and swap it into a GL10, and you can take the GL10 stuff and swap it onto a loyale. They are the same car. I have added all the GL10 options that are cool to my loyale. It's easy to do and cheap as well. Hope that helps!
  23. That's cool. Would you be willing to sell just the case? I wouldn't mind having the case around, and then when the time comes, just go buy the internals, or a whole new alternator for that matter, and put it into the new case.
  24. Sweet, that's what I thought. I think I am going to head to the parts store here shortly so I will find out soon if I have bigger problems or not.
  25. I just wanted to point out that I am not interested at this exact moment, but I am interested in this for an option when I do need an alt. So dont' hurry on my behalf! I wish I had the money for this now, but I got to many things in the pipe line to be able to do it now I would say though that if you were to make a couple of them, I am sure that someone would by them from you for sure! I know that if my alt craps out soon, I will be contacting you for my replacement. How many of these do you have access to?
