Lifting the Legacy OBW.
Wow, great info I'm glad to see someone try the Scorpion springs. Now i'm really curious about a body lift and taller tires in conjunction with that setup...

outback vs explorer
Rockin :D Explorers are nothing special. I've seen dozens of them strewn across the sierra's during winter in pits, upsidedown, sideways, etc.

Gen 1 with Peugeot 15' 's
205/50/15's, no rubbing issues at all (not even close). Plus, the car handles VERY well now, I was surprised (I can throw it into a corner like with my Impreza and it doesn't squeel at all and just turns in nicely). The car also looks much more agressive and just plain more cool Pics: http://community.webshots.com/photo/166896604/458793324uMyRNS http://community.webshots.com/photo/166896604/458792973jibXAC

Picked up my 15" pugs and some nasty lugs (watchout 56k)
Hmm, I thought the ones I found at the PnP were in bad shape, but those are just really bad! Try some Naval Jelly (rust remover) and a gridner or something to remove the hard rust. Get a metal pipe cleaner for the inside (thats what I used). And repaint them when you are done.

Have ya'll seen this one? Git outcher money, Californios.
OMG that thing is awesome!!! Too much $$$$ though... (well not really, but I can't buy it )

the brat has bad gas and a runny nose
Get a custom exhaust made from a muffler slop like they said. Shouldnt cost much, $200-250 or so. You can have it made with whatever muffler you want, any style you want, a resonator or not, basically anything goes since we don't have cats... As for the radiator, order a new one or upgrade to an 80's radiator from a junkyard. (I lucked out and found one in PERFECT shape from a late 70's wagon at a junkyard)

I'm new, What Subaru should I buy for offroading? Basic conversion Q's
No, thats pretty much what I meant.

I'm new, What Subaru should I buy for offroading? Basic conversion Q's
Thats why I said excluding extreme offroading, IE climbing non-road hills and such. The AWD will actually work better for snow driving, and loose terrain applications in on-road situations as well as dirt/gravel/etc. roads, and I specifically stated the VTD Auto tranny because the regular 4EAT is nothing special.

I like your option #1. A lifted forester can do about anything, and if you get a VTD auto tranny from a Baja or WRX in there, you will have a true AWD system with a planetary center diff that will probably outperform the EA82 D/R in most anything but the most extreme off-roading situations.

I just bought a '79 Subi 4wd Wagon... HELP!
NICE FIND!!! Ya, its a dog, but its still fun to drive around... You wont get stuck anywhere at least, but watch out for bay area freeway driving Anyway, I agree with alot of suggestions here, especially if you don't have a limited budget... I'd go with either a fuel injected 1800 and 5-speed tranny, or screw it all and throw in a whole EJ22 drivetrain from an early 90's legacy or Impreza like some folks have done with brats (check the retrofit forum). For suspension, theres not much that can be done easily in terms of bolt-ons... Maybe replace the shocks, but there arent many options for upgrades unless you have something custom made. Personally, I found when I got my new tires (205/45/15's) on with my new wheels (15" pugeot wheels) the handling improved greatly just getting a bit more rubber under the car... (latest pic of mine with the wheels/tires: http://community.webshots.com/photo/166896604/458793324uMyRNS ) For the brakes, I just replaced my front rotors and pads. Worth it in terms of getting the car to operate properly when braking, but if you have major brake problems you might have to replace the master cylinder as well as the rear drums... As for the rust, I see you have your own shop and experience, so ya, it sucks, lots of work ahead, LOL!!! BTW, let me know if you can get it past emissions, I haven't been able to yet :-p

What would you build?
I want more of a go-anywhere-and-never-get-stuck off-roader, rather than a die-hard serious rock crawler... But anyway, here it goes: My '95 Impreza L with the 2.5 motor already in it AA 4" body lift kit Outback struts Scorpion springs Some infamous super-swampers (wheels, undecided...) Upgraded bushings and mounts all around (already have a few of those) Baja XT 4.44 VTD 4EAT modified with a front LSD along with the rear LSD Upgraded torque converter Tranny oil cooler Full under-body armor Roll cage Custom snorkel of course Exhaust routed to a higher point on the car (for water) Sealed chassis (water, there are a few holes that need plugging) Water-protected battery and other engine area components Gutted interior w/ rubber mats (for cleaning ) Roof mounted spare tire Extra luggage rack on the trunk Extra fuel cans located in the trunk I guess... What else am I missing?

Help buying. Is this worth it?
Kostamojen replied to suruba's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe mileage is good, but the price is still high... Especially when the N/A Saabaru (basically an RS wagon) was going for 16,995 via the GM employee discounts...
