  1. I can assure that the valve isn't hitting the piston. Unless it some how got longer. It's probably a dirty HVLA (Hydraulic Valve Lash Adjuster). Change the oil and sometimes a different brand of filter will fix it. If you do that and it goes away for a while and comes back...it may be the oil pump seals or the pump itself. I wouldn't recommend the Stop leak in the water...because it stops leaks by clogging it up...which it does to everything in the engine. Try to find where the water is coming out at. Maybe the over flow? or a loose hose clamp? My $0.02 Justin.
  2. Hopefully this works. Click here. It's from napa. NCP2692558 You'll need the boot kit...well...should get it. Or just use a hammer and straighten it? Just get it realigned...if you use the hammer method....but ultimately replace it. People will argue whether it's a good idea or not...I've done it to my wagon ...drove it for a couple thousand miles with the hammer fix. But I replaced it for safety measures.
  3. I betcha you don't have the DP mounted to the tranny in the two spots, eh? I did the same, and had the same result. Bolted it to the mounting points no problem since. 15k ago. -Justin
  4. Hmm.... Easy outs aren't easy. They should be sued. . Machine shop is the best bet...but you might be able to get another block for the cost of the shop...
  5. Do you mean close to the block? or the head? If you mean the head, you could take it off and should have the whole shaft to use. If it's the block...do you have a welder? You could weld a big nut to the top of it and let it cool. Then wrench it out. I've done that to intake bolts in the head, never a head bolt...should work though, just cover the block up so it doesn't get slag or burnt.
  6. Hello all. I have a 1987 Gl-10 turbo with a D/R tranny in it. I was getting a mad vibration from the front end...I replaced the bearing and balljoints. The vibration would happen around 60mph. I didn't feel it in the steering wheel and my wheels are balanced. So I thought it could be my half shaft, so I removed it and put a cup in the spindle and went RWD mode. It drove through the driveway and onto the road where I shifted into 2nd and all I heard was a rattle/scraping noise. Now the car won't go into any gear, and yes, I'm in 4wd...and not the midway. If I put it in 4wd and in neutral, the stub off the tranny still moves and makes noise. THis happened with my other tranny after some offroading. And to add, when I had the rear in the air, I would spin on tire and the other one wouldn't spin at all. Not the opposite (right, an open diff should do that) and not the same way (like an LSD would). Could it be the diff is causing my trannies to die? Thanks for your time. Justin Johnson
  7. Oh yeah, as for the Toyotas, when they got sideways in the park, the Police were right there and we (the subaru scene) are the ones renting the grounds, shoulda had them ticketed. The a hole who puked in the bathroom...you suck. You guys with your STi's that did the cookies on the way out, were you mad that a older gen won the wheels(wait was it an older gen?)?....well I was going to write a response to Zap, but I can see why he's getting out of this. But just remember we learn from past experiences. WCSS7 wasn't as much fun as 6 or 8 because of the location and the non mud pit action. But thank you Zap. I know I and my crew had a blast, we did get kinda loud Sat night then Erik came over and punched us all in the necks and told us to shut up. But it did get loud after that, but I'm going to have to blame the Canadians. Damn rotten apples spoiling the bunch...or was it sour apples spoiling the bunch...all I know is that people in glass houses sink shi shi ships(Movie quote). END of POINTLESS RANT.
  8. Thank you all that have put this show on. Thanks to the USMB and all the mods. So what's up with people getting burned out? What happened? Oh yeah...I did learn one thing this weekend. Canadians are people just like us. They may say eh? instead of what or duh, but that's cool. No really. I had a blast and those Cannucks freaking rock! Monstaru thanks for the help on getting my ********************* out of the pit. Noah...thanks for putting those "Yoters" in their place and getting me a shackle for the tow chain. Again. Thanks to the people for putting on an AWESOME show. Thanks to the sponsors. Thanks to the people who let us use the fairgrounds. I just hope some of the disrespectful people didn't ruin it for us. And on Saturday night, who ever broke the urinal divider, you suck.\ But seriously, I'd move to Canada, but I can't stand the constant snow, living in igloos, using snowmobiles to get around, and a 18 "Sack" of beer. So, where's next year's show?
  9. He does good work!! I'm supposed to order some stickers from him, but I keep spacing it. Very good on prices.
  10. As for child locks....read the manufacturer specs here
  11. Looks like it should. Just as long as the oil in the air can "fall" out of the system. Much like an air/water seperator for air lines.
  12. I recommend www.rockauto.com for the head gaskets...napa has an EA81 kit, I picked up for $80. Every engine seal. HGs, front and rear oil seal, oil pan, intake, valve cover, valve guides,carb...you name it. Good luck, Justin. EDIT: Fel Pro perma torques are my preference, but that's for EA82...it's a pain to retorque on ea82s!
  13. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=831&cat=527 THis is subaru_styles wagon, I believe he used an RX body kit.
  14. What A-Holes. Hope you get it back soon and in no damage. Good luck, Justin.
  15. Nice, as a Firefighter, I like the extinguisher (less work for us and less damage for you). As for the unsecured back tire, maybe a tow strap going acrossed the compartment to prevent that bad boy from taking someone's head off in a collision or more commonly, bouncing around on that hard rump roast trail.(I've learned that from first hand experience.) I like it though. Reminds me of my first subaru wagon Good Job, Justin. EDit: Not tow strap, but a tie down.
  16. What I'm going to do is trace the outline of the tranny and engine bell housing and the holes. then compare them.
  17. Hello All. I have access to a 1990 Legacy with 215,000 miles. I can buy the whole car, running, looks nice. Would this be worth it to do an EJ swap? Oh yeah, I can pick it up for $300.
  18. I believe you want the driver's side to be at 2 o clock and the passengers at 8 o clock. Straight outta Miles Fox's timing belt install manual.Find it here
  19. You have more of a chance of being attacked by a shark than having your rings/main bearings/pistons be bad (and this is a record attack season)! No really, I doubt that the engine really needs the internals rebuilt. Especially at 80k. Just do the common reseal. If you don't do the rear and front main, you're gunna kick yourself because those take about 30 mins TOTAL (including flywheel/pressure plate removal). Compare that to having the rear seal go out once you get the engine back in. Who votes that he does the rear main seal!?
  20. What about my friend's 1987 RX? It has dual range AWD 5speed. It was made in 01/87. Stock.
  21. Dude I had a moss green 83 wagon, it was the shiz. Just wanted to say that.
  22. How far into it doyou want to go? Head Gaskets (2) Intake Gaskets (2) Oil Pan (1) Oil Pump Reseal Kit (1) Valve Cover (2) Rear Main (1) Cam Seals (2) Front Main (1) Timing Belts (2) Timing Idlers (pulleys) (3) Valve stem seals (8) Here's a good place for the timing belt kit. What else?
