  2. not very long after that i believe he blew some idler bearings too.....i would silicone the timing belt covers, try an fill in the spark plug hole/gap if your wires do not, and cut all the crap off of that intake and take it straight back into the spare tire well.just take the 'm.a.f." with it.cheers, brain

  7. nice man, keep up the maintenance and it could last a very , very, very long time. until you get the bug to lift it,modify it beyond means.........then it will only last a long time.:lol:cheers, brian
  8. well, got the front diff out of the yard when the server was down.only this time i got to pull it at a MAJOR discount. bonus! and i just recieved my transfer case as well!!!!yesterday briggs was kind enough to bring me gifts from the coast . i will be receiving the main part of the lift kit this next weekend and can start on that!subframe for transfercase here we come!!!!cheers, brian
  9. i have encountered screws too.do not know if someone put them in after the fact or if they were stock.tilt that baby up and see if you can get an angle on it to look with a flashlight, but it is probably what mark posted.cheers, brian
  10. i have a clutch and flywheel already,do not need axles due to a transfer case, and will have to deal with drivelines of a different monster anyway. i will be checking out trannies this week.there is supposedly one out there right now.i need someone to buy my weber!i will try an keep you updated.do not be afraid to pm me.i may not have the capital to pull the tranny before you have the funds so i will let you know.cheers, brian
  11. i just saw an ej22 sitting in a gen 1 brat last week.LUMPYCAM was the one that did it.he is not on here very often but i am sure he could answer some questions for you as far as fitment issues.cheers, brian
  12. BLOW IT UP!BLOW IT UP!BLOW IT UP!....oh sorry......cheers, brian
  13. so, lets do some explaining. when the last project i started died in a crash and burn session i was not really going to do anything for a while.i was pretty bummed that i got as far as i did with it and did not complete it. it was really a space issue.that, and i have a tendency to go through cars like i used to go through women.quick..........when i got fed up i sayed ************ it....... then we acquired this hatch for free, and after waiting for about 2 months for the title it finally came and my partner, whom will remain unnamed (baccaruda)had already decided he did not want to be involved in the building and selling of the car. so i said to myself, self why do you not use all these parts and resources you have to build an offroader again, and i said to myself that i would be dumb to not have a project for the winter. sos it was decided.build it and they will shun........... the newest progress can be found here http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=93159 i do not want to just come right out and say what i9 have planned because it is obvious enough i hope.as far as i can go without putting solid axles on it. i will post up pics and some important parts of the build as they come .cheers, brian
  14. welded chunk added to allow stub axles as opposed to circlip axles to 4.44 diff welp.got this done today.i didna even have to drill out the holes.it seems that 4.11 open chunks use the same carrier as the 4.44's.so no drilling.that was a bonus as i was going to have to wait or buy some spendy drill bits. cheers, brian
  15. i am also going with the ej 5 spd trans.for different reasons...but what is all this talk about it being expensive?and more work? get the crossmember when you get the tranny and build whatever you have to between the existing mounting points.i don't think it will be bad at all.this tranny is my next, next purchase. i will keep an eye out for you as well.i get trannies out of the yard up here for 55 bucks.the diffs are 27 so possibly for under a hundie you could be into the gear.i am sure that we could relay it down to you if need be.cheers, brian
  16. i seafoam every car i get before i even try to diagnose it.in this case you would need to use a vacuum line from somewhere on the intake or go directly into the fuel line so that you can run through the injectors.yeah that would probably be better.
  17. did you cast a new bellhousing or just cjhop out for the starter and add an adapter plate?doh!! just reread....howd you do the tranny and transfer case piggybacking the 5 spd.....?cheers, brian
  18. 5 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hehehe...couldn't resist.bumpcheers, brian
  19. eggzachary.........................
  20. actually he said he welded the rear, and had an lsd up front(i just saw him monday, oops, that was on his brat later i guess, because he blew one up nevermind.). i have a welded chunk, now i just have to find an lsd for the front. anywhoooo,um yeah,i knew you wouldn't drool, because you done seen it........but some of these other folks are gonna wonder ..... i am ,like you said a while back, waiting on other people to finish my build.so , until the lift gets here, and i can really get started...... i had to gather more parts.:headbang:i am excited because i had to drive the brat everyday, now i can actually have a toy.......:-pcheers, brian
  21. ummm, isn't it 4.4444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444. yep . it sure is.a long and hard look revealed to me that my golden goose would be to get the lowest gears possible.as many of us have found out, they are not easy to find.well, if you want some, i can get them for you, diffs at least.the trannys are a little harder, but it is possible.auto only of course.anyways,i am not really gloating here,i am simply amazed at what simple questions can do. and yes, that is an r160 diff them their gears are in.a switch of the chunk and we are in business.(wipe the drool off ofyour chin) cheers, brian:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:
  22. and stroker kits are spendy.........don't forget that. an ej25 block and ej22 heads at about 11:1 compression, non turbo is an easy way to jump to those hp numbers, with some cams of course.add some custom exhaust,etc........cheeers, brian
  23. if you were the one that bought three directional rims from an XT i just returned the 4th to the yard and put it in the trunk of the car. cheers, brian
  24. i would love to get in on this if you do it mugs.as i live right down the street from the shop.mainly want to see what is involved. you should stop by sometime.send me a pm with your contact info .and we can hang out .cheers, brian
