  1. gd i would hope and i know ya do know what can be rebuilt and what cant a parts jockey might not know that and try to rebuild it anyway resulting in burning oil that might account for your better results still if its bad enuff to need rings its gona need to be honed if its not that bad then it dosent need rings or honing other wise your replacing a part that dosent need replacing i can see why a shop would do it anyway though and if the cylinders are still round ie you can still see the hone marks from the factory all the way through the cylinder than its not gona need rings or a honing but you could at that point replace the rings with out honing but why if its pear shaped its never gona seal and needs to be replaced but ether reboring and or honing should get a few thousand more miles out of it before scaping it not realy a job for a shop but a shade tree can do it cost effectively with good results
  2. if the cylinders are bad enuff to need rings there bad enuff to need a honing in my mind anyway i dont know how any ring is gona seal a pear shaped hole but i do know it can be sanded in to any shape ive always worked under the if you build with junk dont exspect it to last vary long school of thought it would be a interesting exsperiment to pull one apart rering it and hone one side and see which side burns more oil do the exsperament with say 5 engines
  3. sounds like your backwards driverside should be up when pointing to #1 if i remeber right pasenger side should be down maybe you did the wrong side first maybe i dont know look over the videos about it on you tube maybe you will catch your mistake
  4. our cylinders tend to oval out they only were on the bottom and is almost imposable to get a good seal if you realy want to use new rings hone the hay out of the cylinders get.the wall as ruff as you feel comfertable.with so the rings wear alittle faster and hopefully they will seal the cylinder faster if at all i say just leave the pistons in there holes and do what ever work your gona do with out removing the jugs otherwise its gona be hell geting a good seal the lower ends rearly go bad so unless it was run low on oil i wouldent do more than a quick inspection if the cylinders are still round then theres no reason to look at the bottom end in my opinion anyway
  5. sounds like you need to adjust the rear end there are 3 bolts on the trailing arm in a triangle like patern loosen those bolts and you can move stuff.around and hopefully you can get the rear end straight i had that problem on one of my loyals and was able to fix it by messin with that adjustment alittle movement goes along way
  6. the push button should be easy to find ill bet someone would give you one as us offroad guys pull ours out for the duel range trans i know i have one i would.be willinh to donate to the cause but im along way away and shipping would cost more than a junk yard trans
  7. i had 300lbs hanging off the front of mine with that much more waight it was still slightly stiffer than stock it should work for your plow but its gona handle like poop so becarefull at freeway speeds also it will add 1-2 of lift so your camber is gona be off a bit
  8. sounds like its 2 or 3 teeth off 1 tooth it will still drive it just gets.hot and runs like poop but st8ll driveable
  9. save that engine you might think its toast but theres some one who can use it
  10. the cars in mariposa right now some day it has to make.the trip to johnson valley unless it.finds a new home
  11. ive got a cherry 94 loyale ive been tryin to give away for years i even sold it then it got sold again then i got it back stole the motor back out of it as.i put it in before i sold it and have been trying to give it away ever since its even got the 2" lift and 15" wheels on it already with and no one has any interest in it at all theres no cutting on the fenders and no rust i wish someone would take it ive got.way to many projects this one and the forester got to go
  12. my springs took about 6 months to break in havent noticed any change since and that was years ago you should be good even with my 300lb winch after break in its still better than the stock springs
  13. if it dosent settle out stack about 500 lbs on the front end with some kinda cargo carrier and go for a nice mellow ride and work those springs alittle so they settle down some or get a big winch and stick it in the reciver and do some wheelin thats what i did they ended up inbetween stock stiffnes and new stiffnes
  14. bummer im sorry to hear that if its got a duel range in it it would defitly be worth pulling apart and as long as theres no major engine damage it might be worth passing along to someone who can use whats left of it other than that you might be able to sell the lights there getting to be rare these days and are hard to find oh the wheels are a big ticket item too alot of people like those i my opinion other than that its not worth the work of stripping it
  15. heres a video of my rig with a non sealing home made headgasket you can clearly see bubbles in the radiator take the cap off when its cold top off the radiatorvand squeese the hose a few times then run the engine if you have a bad head gasket it will look like this
  16. the open belt vs coverd belts has been going on for along time it almost always ends with some one pissed on or off depending on how you see it lol i know ferployale is a good guy he is alway trying to help he just dosent know how to react to people with differant opinions than his so he has to insult people to make him self feel better sorry back to the

  22. the cvs will pull out of the cups if you have too much lift usaly with a lift like that you drop the sub frame if you add more lift you need to drop the sub frame the same amount so if yo have a 2" lift no sub frame drop 3" lift you need a 1" sub frame drop 4" lift 2" drop 5" lift 3" drop
  23. not saying you couldent find deep snow but chances are the cops will be at your door later that day if you do unless you go to the rubicon every thing else gets shut down you cant even park your car on dirt in your own driveway anymore cars are only alowed on plowable surfaces in the winter
  24. multi spark discharge ignition the brand msd makes a product called al6 they also made a budget version called the street fire i personaly used the procomp brand al6 it dosent realy matter most multi spark ignition boxes work the same way by providing 2 sparks per cycle insureing a complete burn and it incresses the intensity of the spark while using the stock coil do basicly your running more efficent cause your burning all the fuel you put in to the engine so when you put your foot in to it your burning all.that fuel right now instead of pushing the pedlel and slowly gaining speed very help full when lugging the engine when oh say wheeling the rig and will give you full potential when and if you decide to do any kind of engine mods new cars with direct port injection it dosent realy help any but tbi and carbed engines it helps alot old tech i did a vid on how to wire then up on you tube these days i have to go back and watch my own vid to figure out how to hook them up lol i cant take any credit though as i learned how to do all this from the people on this site
