im starting a new build thread as the last thread i started about this build pretty much did i 180 and dident go anywere so im going back to the basics 98 outback base wagon 32 inch tires dual range trans 3" lift pretty simple so far im picking up were i left off no doors no hatch back cut off moved forward and completely gutted ill be keeping the dash and heater though so from here i do some simple tube work build some mounts for the radiator and install a lift kit and build some tube doors and do some more body trimming and i would also like to redesign the rear suspention and push the wheels back a few inches it would be nice if i could fab up some trailing arms and mount the strut to it but i dont know how to pull that off at this point i had thought albout making it a 2 seater but i want the long wheelbase and well im realy liking the look of it as it is lol ill be spending the next 2 weeks going through poontoon dudes thread again he has some awsome tech if i can find it in that sea of a thread lol pics?
  2. axles your kinda screwed the HD axle you linked is junk mine lasted 5 days before the guts disintigrated now days i just buy the cheapest new axle from the parts store and reboot and regreese using silicone boots and quality cv bearing greese finding og shafts is pretty much not a option anymore these cars were never ment to last this long they were throw aways cars when they were new so there isent any profit in making parts for them anymore so the best we get is chinese junk unless its custom made if you find someone who will make a custom cv axle at a decent price im sure we all want to know
  3. the last time i did my breaks was about 5-7 years ago i went with the drilled and sloted rotors and used the pads that came with them they easyly doubled my stoping power my 30" tires need all the help they can get right after that i had a guy pull infront of me on a vary steep down hill in a turn at about 70mph he was passing a truck doing about 45 and dident look i was bracing for impact but the new breaks dident lock up dident jerk the car at all just a nice smooth hard break and swerve i was almost in to the wall but had just enuff break for the guy to get in front of me with out hitting anything so now everytime i replace my rotors i buy the drilled and slotted rotors that are made here in california and sold on ebay by the manufacturer and there almost half the price of the cheapest parts from orealy s and made here in america so i see it as a win win
  4. i have the lincon exhaust i use good old lincon for alot of stuff for my loyale the parts just arent outhere
  5. ebay is were i get mine all kinds of sizes and shapes dont be afraid to get creative
  6. order by size not by make and model you can always modify one if the size is close enuff i do it all the time for custom stuff
  7. is there still a ground wire from the battery to the starter if it works out of the car it should work in the car but if the electricity cant get to it than no starter will work dont rely on the engine to ground the starter
  8. its just another ceramic coating these guys spray the ceramic coating on while its hot instead of spraying it on cold and heating it up to cure it sounds gimicy to me
  9. im not sure if i understand the question but if you looking at lifting the rig you can go 2" over stock with out issue any more than that and the cv joint pulls out of the cv cup i dont think the angle matters too mucb its more a traval issue
  10. the radius rod sets the position of the front wheels if you dont drop the braket it bolts too the wheel will pull in to the body and make for a extremely stiff ride and besides lowering the bracket you need to put a few washers behind the radius rod and the rubber isolator to keep the wheel centered the good news is there easy to make yourself if you have access to scrap metal the steering link from a lego or a outback should work i made my own it just needs to be the same langht as the front crossmember drop brackets
  11. #7 is definitly the crossmeber drop brackets #6 definitly front strut top spacers #5 rear diff hanger #3 goes on the front part of the diff #4 im guessing is the carier bearing drop brackets or the transmision crossmeber drop brackets but its hard to tell from that angle #2 is the mustash bar bracket mounts not realy part of the lift there stock parts #1 is the rear strut drop brackets your missing all the brackets from the radius rod brackets also the steering link and there should be some rear subframe drop brackets other wise your tires are eating in to the back doors
  12. there is a small lip or ring the inside and outside of that pully they can be riped off by the belts when they come off or if there hit by anything there only spot welded on in 3 or 4 spots not having covers on mine i was able to see what was happening and over the course of a week i noticed that ring coming apart and once it fell off i had this problem i replaced the pully and the belts stayed on
  13. You would drive right though the clutch so you wouldent get any more torque than the ej motor and would be replacing that clutch alot I too am holding out for a electric option for my loyale no need to slip the clutch
  14. A 99 2.2 has a power bump and higher compresion than the old 2.2 they bumped it to150hp mine has 300k still running the stock headgaskets its never broke down or had any issues just regular maintenance even with a 3" lift running 28" tires its been a vary reliable engine the new 2.5l still have headgasket problems to my knowledge they never fixed that problem the 2.5 has never been a reliable engine ever especially when compaired to the 2.2 its a turd I know the older rigs ran better with the 2.2 motor on the 2.5 engine management system my 2.2 swaped forester ran great till the cam shaft snaped it did use the 2.5 intake manifold to make wireing easyer The 2.2l has more low end torque than the 2.5 making it a better choice for off road but also means the 2.5 wont break parts any more than the 2.2 maybe even less the 2.5 is a better choice for street use The loyale has the parking break on the front wheels so you can use the parking break as a chessey limited slip it worktheeally good its gotten me out of alot of bad places even in 2wd and its already instaled on the car The only real issue i see with the ej swap is the ea82 clutch its smaller than the ej clutch and the ej already has clutch slip with a brand new clutch ive herd the ea82t clutch holds up ok but good luck finding the right one
  15. Any new axle will have those rubber boots that dont hold up to heat or being stretched at all there cheap so axle makers use them When i need a axle i go to orealys or where ever the axles are cheap and have a warranty then i test them in the store by twisting them back and forth to make sure there not loose from the factory you realy have to check them as ive had about half fail from just the twist test those are the ones that fail within the first 100 miles after i find a good one i reboot it with high quality silicone boots and lots of high quality greese ive gotten new axles with no greese at all several times so They atleast need to be checked before there instaled Rebooting new axles with quality boots and greese is the next best thing to factory axles ive found yet Sure silicone boots arent cheap but labor isent ether even if doin the job yourself
  16. Is the radio buzzing or is it browning out from lack of power
  17. I would run it what's the worst that could happen you loose some compression burn some oil Don't expect it to be a daily driver but it should run OK till it dosent
  18. kinda sounds like a bad axle just cause there new dosent mean there good ive turned too many away at the parts counter cause they were junk they were so bad i wouldent even take them out of the store
  19. in my opinion the outback would sink like a rock in the sand especialy with the h6 my 98 outback sucked in the sand so did the forester the impreza is ok but dont hold a candle to true 4wd and a low range and on road its a differnt story the l series suck on the road compaired to a lifted ej series i also hated the 4eat trans because that trans hated the sand it would puke tranny fluid if driven in the sand to long in my opinion the l series with the ej swap is the best offroad combo you can piece together out of subarus the second best is the impreza with the ej22 and the l series duel range
  20. loose radiator mounts maybe i would guese lower mounts
  21. if it was mine i would do a mild port on it and see if that crack would buff out that casting looks nasty
