  1. spacers have more stability due to more surface area making contact. I've had 1" bolt-on wheel spacers on my car for about 8 months now with no problems. slip-on spacers are less safe for a few reasons.
  2. I think you should ask Zap or Scooby to see if they can fit a 2.5RS front caliper on an EA82 caliper bracket. They work at Aaron's Auto Wrecking in Seattle; Aaron's is an all-Subaru wrecking yard. If you're familiar with how to change brake pads - remove the lower retaining bolt from the caliper assembly so that the caliper can pivot on the upper pin (not to be confused with the mounting bolts that attach the caliper bracket to the knuckle) then all you have to do to completely separate the caliper from its bracket is to unbolt the pivot pin from the back of the caliper just like the retaining bolt. I would be worried about the diameter of the rotor being compatible with the stock location of the EA82 caliper, though. It might be possible to "improve" the front brakes too much so that they lock up easier... for instance, if the stock rotor is too small. I'd suggest that you either do a 5-lug swap and keep all of the brake parts original to each other, or that you buy the best pads and rotors that you can for the EA82 and invest in great tires - the tires are often overlooked when people go to upgrade the brakes.   3. How've you been, Noah? I recall that routing the water line to the EA82 turbo looked annoying. I have seen pictures of it done before but don't know which thread. I had been thinking of installing a standalone cooling circuit with an electric pump, and letting a hood scoop feed both it and the intercooler.

  5. I'd install an onboard air compressor from a different car or a standalone one that plugs into the cigarette lighter (or connects straight to the battery).

  7. That driver's side front is really gross but it can be repaired. I can't tell exactly where it is but you'll have to pull the carpet out if you're going to do any welding under the cabin. Do you mind giving us an estimate of your resources and capabilities here? Some of us have shops and 8 cars and it's no big deal to take one apart for a month and do extensive repairs; some of us have 1 car and no shop and try to stick to projects that can be done in a day.
  8. Regardless of how much you paid you got a pretty neat rig out of the deal. The body damage and potential for rust are the areas to worry about. Dashes can be replaced as can carbs. The dents in and behind the door are no big deal. Get that thing on a lift and get under it. Take a bunch of pics and post them here. My suggestion would be to replace the bad sheetmetal (as pictured thus far), drop the rear suspension and gas tank, and coat the whole underside and removed components with POR-15.. would also be a good time to do any modifying to the underside such as adding a hitch or lift kit if you want.   9. I have a 2001 OBW that has +2" King springs and a 1.5" lift kit. I bought it from the original owner who'd imported those parts. I'm going to sell it after I'm done fixing it up. I'm looking for a source for longer-than-stock sway bar linkages before I make some out of rod ends.. do we know if any other models have longer but compatible parts? The front sway bar can make contact with the front control arms when the suspension flexes; I think this is from the longer springs throwing the geometry off a little bit. thanks!

  14. I haven't touched this job yet but will try to acquire FSM wiring diagrams when I get seats. I will NOT go another winter without heated seats! My drive to work is too short for the heater to warm up

  18. Lookin' good, want to do my wagon next? $5k is a lot for a paint job; have you thought about a community college auto shop program or something? There's got to be a way to do it for less than $1k and still have it come out looking like $1,000,000.
  19. If you run oversized tires after the lift, you may not be able to fit your spare under the hood any more. You might install an electric air compressor there.. good luck!
