  1. Is the recall dead on this? I had mine changed under the recall about 2-3 years ago. Here's a simple load test you can do. Start the car, remove the negative battery cable. Turn on the headlights, heater fan on high and flashers. While the car is running, if it still is, run the tach up to about 4 grand. If everything runs OK, your alternator is fine. If not, it's Tango Uniform.
  2. Horsefly under the gas pedal? Yea, best bet is locate it while it's doing it, with length of rubber hose to the ear or a stethoscope.
  3. Fords had an external solenoid (I kinda like that idea), your Sube's in is the starter. You can replace the contacts; get them at a starter rebuild shop. I used to have directions and pics, but lost them to a computer mishap. You can always take the starter in to have it done as well. No reason to buy a starter.
  4. Maybe Subes won't have any more serious problems that they don't want to face up to in the future, like bad head gasket and clutch design, or smarter places to put cup holders and parking light switches
  5. Have you ever changed the fluid? Not that it will fix it, but the fluid is probably shot anyway.
  6. My only problem with running what the car has posted on it is that the outside edges of the tires seem to wear faster. The car manufacturers always take ride softness into account, so a little less pressure yields a better ride. I stick to 32 all the way around.
  7. Just remember that if you have 225/40-19's instead of 195/65/15's that when you have a blow-out, the volume of air in the 19"tire will be gone in a micro-give-me-crap. That, and the tires in ever expanding rim sizes are more expensive. Will the handling be better? Of course!! Ideally, a half inch of silicone on a flat 22" rim would offer great traction, but you'd feel every earthworm and dime you ran over!!!!
  8. Your only problem is the Legacy was designed for the road. If you went up two wheel sizes from 14" to 16" you 'd only gain an inch of clearance, then maybe another inch at the most with higher profile tires. I don't think that is what you are looking for. If you win the lotto, you could buy a real hummer with the military ground clearance, not that piece of crap they are selling at the dealerships.
  9. Actually, a 2x4 is 1-1/2 x 3-1/2, and has been so for many, many years, mostly to save wood. Same as a 4 x 4 is actually 3 1/2 each way. Wood won't shrink that much when dried. We screwed the pooch when we didn't go metric in the early 70's, and from what I understand, it was the auto and building industry that was holding the tail out of the way. I love the metric system. When I go back to the states and have to look at the odometer, the miles go by sooooooo damn slow. And I love my metric vise grips...
  10. I carried a restaurant style Bitburger Pils umbrella home (an ebay purchase), and it was 2" away from the windshield after I got the back door closed with the pipe resting against it. Nice armrest, kinda high tho...
  11. MB2 is the accessories. Do you have something plugged into the lighter jack, or you have a googlelaphonic stereo?
  12. Since I switched to a Fumota vave, I don't worry about it on the subie. But, and my opinion differs from most on this board, I've never used a new washer on any of my cars for the oil pan, and I've never had a drop out of them.
  13. I had a Ford Van and if one of the brake lights was out, it would cause the C/C to quit working.
  14. The only question I would have, or at least a point to ponder... Why was the system flushed at 155k and had it been done before, or was it the first trans fluid change? Go with your gut feeling, but that is a lot of miles on any tranny, especially if it wasn't serviced properly. Does it have a hitch on it? If so, it's been used to tow, so more life off the tranny.
