That's odd; I found just the opposite to be true. CB radios dont have a monthly fee / charge per minute I can't afford a cell phone so I have a CB

PM me the address. I have a freight forwarding company I use for large items. I'll reply with a quote from him. Pick up would be at a hub/dock somewhere to keep costs down. Thx

Jumping vehicles that dont have the suspension for it is ... rather silly... to put it nicely. Glad you came to the same conclusion. Here's my latest damage from riding on lots of big, jagged, rocks. http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/offroad/jul04_craw4cure/carnage/ They hold up well but nothing lasts forever. Another season or two of this and she's done. Getting to 35+ degree's is freaky no doubt. Next time you are at that angle get out and look at the vehicle. See just how close you really are. I think you'll find it's mostly in your head. Seems exagerated when you are in the vehicle; then you get out and look and it seems less scary. Scariest parts I find are when you are on a VERY tight turn, on a steep desent, with two wheels off the ground.... the tipping back and forth rates high on the pucker factor

Just swap on a whole drive shaft assembly. 6 bolts and it's out of the vehicle. 6 more and the new one is on. -
BLING! That's one fancy engine

I know I'm shooting for next year Castana also. Talking to Kurt the last time he was over he really wants to make Castana next year. We should try and get a big group of Subarus there next year!

I'd really like to see that.

Those things suck. Skid plates are for sliding on; not getting hung up on.

I WANT SKID PLATES!

The nuts they give you are fine. Can I site some literature to prove this? Not really but that doesn't mean they are worthless. I think you are making a bigger deal out of this than is necessary. If you don't belive what we are telling you and don't want to run those nuts; go buy a really expensive Genuine Subaru Part.

There is a couple threads that have links to a website that hast PDF documents of service manuals. I already downloaded them and have them on my HDD. Can't quite recall the name of the webpage that has them. I bet if you searched long enough you can find them.

Replace fusible links in black box under hood. Replace injector fuse in fuse block. That's where I would start; despite what they looked like. I've seen fuses with hairline cracks I couldnt see but were bad. I've seen fusible links that looked/felt okay but weren't. Just sending 12vdc to the injector wouldnt work I woudl suspect. The computer has to tell it when to 'open' and 'close'. I spose it's worth a shot; either it will work, or it will just say 'open', or it will fry it

Take an old one to the hardware store and find it.

Having Stock rims widened?
MorganM replied to subarunewbie2005's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Personally I like pizza cutter tires for these little rigs. An option would be going with the 6lug conversion and running old chevy/toyota/jeep (fullsize) rims that have less back spacing and wider rims. Then you can put on a lot wider tires. Note McBrat's comment on rolling resistance. Going to take more power to ovecome the increased resistance. -
front end noise (FIXED!!)
MorganM replied to karinvail's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Throwout bearings can indeed make funny noises. However you would hear it at idle and in time to the RPMs with the clutch going in/out. When you say their is play at the wheel in reference to bad bearings; look under the control arm at the ball joint as you 'wiggle' the wheel. Might be the ball joint that has play in it rather than the bearings. Bearings make really funny noises too and are often unpredicatble. As they roll stuff gets shifted around and noises come and go. I've had them make horrible noises one minute than BAM the next minute sound fine. Weird little buggers :-\ Oh, CV isn't out of the question yet! They make funny noises and affect steering also when going bad. -
Looks great; glad to see it on all fours! All ready been offroading? That's what I like to hear! What's the width of those tires? Backspacing on those rims? Glad to see that machine shop finally got your hubs done. Oh and price of the tires per tire; thx!

CV axle changing--tips for newbies
MorganM replied to Tom63050's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I hold the CV with my left hand, pull in twoard myself as I'm facing the hub, and then hammer around the face of the hub in a circular patern to 'pres' the stub through the hub. Tough part is keeping the stub horizontal as it tends to jimmy in a funny direction. Once enough of the stub is through I thread on the castle nut and pull it through the rest of the way. -

Glad to hear you made it safe. Good luck on the job hunt! -
1) Just buy a lift. Ozified BYB, AA, SJR, or Mudrat. 2) I wouldn't know, I cut my fenders and pounded a lot of unibody out of the way. 3) Most daily drivers on here went with 26" to 28". 4) QUIT JUMPING YOUR DAMN SUBARU. IT'S YOUR DIALY DRIVER NOT YOUR BAJA 1000 TROPHY TRUCK. Weekend camping trips with light trail rides will be nothing compared to the stress of jumping it! :-p

CV axle changing--tips for newbies
MorganM replied to Tom63050's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I do not remove the ebrake cable (or caliper), undo the ball joint, or loosen the strut top. My swaybar has been completly removed so that doesn't get in the way anymore Undoing the control arm from the main crossmember gives me all the play I need to pull the DOJ off the tranny. Then I pound the stub out of the hub assembly. -
Ugh, I'm about to give up...
MorganM replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I like Subarus becuase I can do pretty much everything on it myself if I have to. Unlike my old big block hot rod; some things on that I simply could not physicly lift myself to do. That really sucked and why I really dont miss it. Tried those one man bleeder kits; most were cheap pieces of crap that maybe worked once. SPEED BLEEDERS! I dont get comission if you buy them; I don't own stock in the company. I push them hard becuase THEY WORK BETTER than anything I've used thus far. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16029&highlight=speed+bleeders
