LOL... the Yankee Trucker!

It's more than an engine swap you propose. It's a whole power train swap. Engine and Tranny will have to be put in. That's custom motor mounts to a crossmember that bolts in. Custom tranny mounts to a crossmember that bolts in. Slide it back into the 'tunnel' as far as possible so you can actually have a radiator; now that's gonna be tricky with the crossmembers and mounts. Custom drive shaft to your rear diff. HOpefully it holds upto the 383ci power. Custom exhuast from the headers back. Wire up the ignition system to your ignition switch. Need the fuel pump for that carb setup. Take apart your font axles and leave in the outer stuble axle to hold your front hub assembly together..... that's about all I can think of. I'm sure there's more to be done! You got a welder, chop saw, and drill press right? Possible? Certainly.... now get to work

The electric fan is actually the main fan. Only models with AC came with an auxilary clutch fan on the water pump. As long as your electric fan comes on when it should and operates at full RPM it's doing it's job.

You'd think so but it doesnt really work that way.

Several on the USMB; I'll let them speak for themselves. I would like to draw your attention to the custom suspesion done by Brumbyrunner in OZ. Lots more up travel, minimal gain in down travel, and a sweet custom setup. http://www.ausubaru.com/ausubaru/html/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3495

Leaking there is usually due to the O ring failing or pipe rusting and failing. Find yourself an inlet pipe in good condition and a new O ring.

Mine reaches 5miles easy; but its also tuned.

I have no O2 sensor!?!?!?
MorganM replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Copy down your VIN and call up a dealership. They should be able to tell you if it's a feedback carb setup or not. -
I use a Cobra DX III. Generic antenna from some truck stop on the way to Castana IA. Had a friend tune it with his RFW meter. Works great on the highway but out on the trails its spotty. Mostly due to the terrain; since CBs are line of sight.

MorganM replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Odd; so you have the wire coming down to connect with the O2 sensor but the sensor and bung is mising. Absolutly positive it's for the O2 sensor? As Calebz noted; check for an ECU up under the dash. Possible that a previouse owner had to swap the Y pipe and used one from a non-02 sensor vehicle. For instance I'm running an EA81 Y pipe on my EA82, no bung for an 02 sensor so I'm not running one with my SPFI engine. Not the best solution but I'm not worried about fuel economy on my Subaru. You can buy just the bung and have it welded into your Y pipe. Could also swap to a Y pipe from an SPFI or an EA82 that had a feed back carb. -
Is your current Loyale a 4WD? That will make the swap somewhat easier. Never gone 3AT to 5MT; I went from 2WD 5MT to 4WD 5MT dual range... since mine was 2WD I had to swap the whole rear end also. As Humble noted you'll need the pedal assembly also cuz you'll have to run the clutch cable assembly. Get the driveshaft from the donor vehicle. I'd go with the Dual Range; single range is just the High Range from the Dual Range. Axles are the same but you might as well grab some spares!

Been discussed in great detail. I think youll find all the information you seek using the Search feature. If you cant find all the info you want we'd be happy to discuss further and address your questions. Thanks!

Good idea with the squirter; might have to pick one up. Then again thats more weight and junk I gotta carry with me on the trail I've already modified the intake to take care of that issue. It was really simple and I havent had a problem since. Best part was it cost nothing to do! Basicly I pluged up the old hole in the fender, with duct tape, where it used to draw air from, unbolted the air box assembly, rotated it 90 degrees, and bungeed it down. Best solution? Naw, but it keeps the air filter clean now Might do up a snorkel some day but I'm not keen on huge obnoxiouse snorkles that go above my head. If I'm so deep it's above my head I'd be DROWNING! Here's a pic of what I did. It's a mud mentality really. Either you love it or you hate it. I've slowly grown to hate it as I offroad more and more. Sure, it's going to be there and I'm going to have to go through plenty of it; but you wont see me seaking out the nearest 'mud hole' to waller in. Maybe I don't like getting lumped in with the redneck mudder truck crowd either :-p Trust me, I know all about paying to play; I'd guess I spent well over $1,000 to go offroading JUST last year. It wasnt the $10 in quarters that got me; it was the hours of chizeling dried clay out of my vehicle so I could do simple repairs and maintanace. The countless times dried mud would fall onto my face, into my mouth, or eyes. Having junk fall into my dang oil pan when I pulled out the dips stick (yes I tried to wipe it away first!) Not offended or angry at all; as you said it's all in good fun I'm not alone in my hatred for mud and I'll end this post with a quote from a fellow mud hater... "wheel'n in the mud is a lot like anal sex; sounds like it's a great idea until it's time to clean up the mess" - Rod Here's some great pics of Mud Moments!

I'm really interestedi n your 5" custom suspension lift. What does it consist of? Details if you could please!
-
Cute.... use your normal forum name, coward.
-
Not necesarily. That could be intake manifold gasket also...
-
Oil pressure and Temp will not rise/fall due to a piston ring. Is your oil pump okay? Water pump? Any oil in your over flow tank? Milk in the coolant? Milk in on your dipstick? Check other things first. However it does sound like a headgasket

Replaced my water pump this winter. Used a razor blade to CAREFULLY remove old gasket material. This was the hardest part. Some places it LOOKED like it was all gone but it wasnt. Brake cleaner assisted in softening up the old material left on the gasket mating surface. Then used gasket and Blue RTV sealant. It's held up great now ever since installation. Few thousand miles on it since then. Oh another tricky part. THere is one spot where the cooalnt dribbles down along the block. Well RTV doesnt stick where coolant has made the surface wet! I could see that easily becoming a leak in teh future. Took the time to dry out the whole orface where coolant was dribbeling out of, then applied the RTV, and applied the gasket with pump.

I don't want to copy The Austin, but...

The yellow depicted is gloss which is why I suggested gloss black. If it's all going to be matte than sure a flat black hood will match. It was the mixing of matte and gloss that looked ghetto to me. Might I suggest 'texture black' instead of flat? I think it looks way better. However it does tend to get chalky when stuff gets into the texture; then again so does flat black. I prfer a semi-gloss personaly, but that's me This is but one opinion however -

Has nothing to do with the type of tire. MTs work great on the rocks and dirt too; wish I had a set but not for the mud! Here's some examples why I hate mud: http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/i_hage_mud_01.jpg http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/i_hate_mud_02.jpg http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/airbox_mod_befor.jpg http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/offroad/apr05_gilbert/Offroad/PICT0025.jpg http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/offroad/apr05_gilbert/Offroad/PICT0026.jpg http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/offroad/apr05_gilbert/Offroad/PICT0027.jpg http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/offroad/apr05_gilbert/Camp/PICT0074.jpg http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/offroad/apr05_gilbert/Camp/PICT0072.jpg http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/offroad/apr05_gilbert/Camp/PICT0071.jpg http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/STUCK.jpg Worst parts: Sucking the junk into air filter... yum. Clogging 1/2 or more of the radiator causing you to run warm on the trail all day. Filling up bellhousing (and subsequently the clutch assembly) with the crap and then having it dry in there, fun! Now I get to clean all the stuff off before my next repair; last time I spent $10 at the self-serve car wash and still had to chizel (yes, chizel) off pounds of the stuff. I hate mud Honestly I loved it when I first started offroading. Couple years latter I've done a 180! -
Just listening with your ear under the hood or in the cabin is usually futile. Buy yourself a Mechanics Stethiscope (aka: needle stethiscope) and start probing around for the culprit. There are so many things under the hood that can sqeek, squak, tap, clack, clunk, chirp, and such that it's hard to track down with out the stethiscope.

On mine it mixed oil and coolant, shot coolant externally out onto the cat, and in other spots.

Would look better with a gloss black hood, IMHO. -

Glad you all had fun and thanks for posting the pics. Weather looked outstanding and what a view from that tower. I don't blame you for staying out of the mud! Dry trails? Awsome! I hate mud now! Much rather be on a dry forest trail or some dry rocks -
Thanks Mick. I was hoping I would be able to edit my posts here. The images are movies are in a folder that has the wrong date (jul04 instead of jul05) I have since copied them all over to the correct jul05. I'll just append a new post here with the new links. No need to fuss with this thread anymore. New folder with all the images and movies: http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/offroad/jul05_crawl4cure/ Thanks!
