Lifting a 95 impL, AA kit vs strut/spring lift?
I'd like to reiterate, that even with forester struts, without wheel spacers (which i think are not the best or safest idea) the biggest tire you can run are the allterrains that Austin is using. The tire size is limited by the struts, not the wheelwell.

I also have the Forester struts and springs on my 96 OBS, there great, although the limiting factor on the tire size is the width not the height of the wheel well, so an extra 2 inches from AA won't help to get a bigger tire under there.

Mystery...No-Spark on 3 and 4 - Second time !
NoahDL88 replied to subaruVWnut's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBecause the two cylinders are tied together, (wasted spark) a loose wire or bad plug would effect both, can't rule out the basics, and their cheaper anyway.

2005 Outback-Rims getting packed with mud/snow
NoahDL88 replied to Outback_VT's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust a word of caution, pam is not so good on your brakes. I've also heard a dirty rumor that if you use pam on your tires, the really knobby offroad ones, it helps keep mud from building up in the voids, but again, not so good on the actual tred.

Marysville Everett Need a Roomate?
The V is pretty far away, but there is no way that my 96 will pass emissions, the EGR is blocked off, as per a snafu with CCR and the Subaru Guys, and my cats are, well, there still in Michigan, maybe a PO box would suffice.

Woody kits for wagons?
Moosens, i thought you were making stickers, not actual wood, of course i wouldn't expect that to be free then. I'll get them out to you asap.

Marysville Everett Need a Roomate?
Anyone know where the county line is, and if i'll have to pass emissions if i'm north of it?

Fuel consumption question
Its a turbo, and as you said you're doing city, so that will make it lower. and it'll never get close to a nice small car running a diesel. 250 dosn't sound too bad, you might get the o2 sensor replaced, along with the wires, plugs and air and fuel filter; basic tuneup stuff should help.

Woody kits for wagons?
I have a set, i don't think its complete, but i'll ship it to you, if you send me a repro back with the originals It would at least be a good start, i believe that i have enough to get the shape of every piece, even if it has to be flipped for the other side. PM me if'n your interested, anything for my lost coaster BTW its for an EA-81 possibly even a Gen 1, i dunno I also got like 16 sets of rally stripes that say 4WD and "Subaru" and 5 speed, if either Moosens, or McBrat want to repro those too.

1990 EA82 hatchback

Redneck Free etc Mods
NoahDL88 replied to ACE's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe only thing you can do for free is reduce weight, thats it, on you and the car, start throwing up like lindsy lohan, and gut the entire interior except the shifter and the seat. Break out the glass too, thats real heavy, and you don't really need that spare anyway. For cheap, a tuneup won't hurt, will at least get you back to OE horsepower. For moderate, Perfect Power 6 is a good engine management system, combine that with headers and a high flow cat midsection, and your 2.2 or 2.5 could be pushing around 170-200 horsepower. If you want to go for the gusto, an engine swap, or turbo kit would be the way to go, but thats anywhere from 3-8 k. Really, put your money into suspension and brakes, you'll notice the difference there more then you would in the engine, and you get much more bang for your buck. try www.rallitek.com they'll have everything you're looking for.

EA81 power idea
Ditto, with extra oxygen, you're gonna need extra fuel, or you're gonna need another motor.

impreza problems
NoahDL88 replied to seanski06's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDepending on your funny noises, it could be anything from bearings, rings or your Iac, but i'm leaning towards bearings, IE new engine time, unless you want them to rebuild it. your rings will typically not just blow, especially with a stock engine, the noise you heard was probably your engine telling you that it was low on oil, which if it gets low enough it starts making noises, and then stops running all together.

Is Valvoline Lying?
NoahDL88 replied to rugbyben's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAs long as its above the min line you'll be fine, but if it starts to get close, adding a quart of oil is cheap insurance.

Is Valvoline Lying?
NoahDL88 replied to rugbyben's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'd check your oil at every other gas fillup at the least, and at 72k, she's just a baby, so i'd avoid the max life whatever snake oil they have and stick with the regular. I think that the lube shops are out to make a dollar anywhere they can, and are hoping that their cinsumers havn't realized that new engines are much more robust and reliable compared to any engine made in the 80's where 72k was a good time to start thinking about oil seals and piston rings, especially in the domestic market.

hitch advice needed please
NoahDL88 replied to Zephyr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI believe that they also make inside racks, where the front fork fits into a rack when the seats fold down, may not be the way you want to go, but just thought i'd put it out there. Also keeps your grease inside your hubs, as the wind dosn't affect them inside.

Marysville Everett Need a Roomate?
Looks like i got a good line on a job at Marysville Ford, not engineering, but it'll pay the bills, which is better than my current position. So, if anyone is in Marysville, Everett or the greater Northern Seattle area, and is looking at renting out a room in their house, and perhaps some parking space, that would be great, i only have 2 cars at the moment, and probably won't be getting any more for the forseable future.

What should I do to my 92 legacy?
NoahDL88 replied to ACE's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou're on the right track with a tune up, plugs, wires, air and fuel filter. don't spend the extra money on a K&N they arn't worth it. There is a snorkus thingy in the passenger fender that is worth a little at the top end, and it makes the car sound better(meaner) when you're on the throtte, but you have to take the fender off to get to it. For the rally, the motor is quite good already, you should focus your attention on wheels, tires and suspension mods. if its an automatic, i'd switch to a stick shift pronto. If this is rally only, you can clear out a lot of the interior parts, but could make it hard to convince your significant other to ride in a car with no interior, which will also make it much louder.

How to keep rain out of your Snorkel
Most if not all of the rally cars, when they go through the dusty sections have their snorkle pointed backwards, seems to work fine for them.
