Coil spring compressor rental or purchase?
matt167 replied to milty60's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDecent hydraulic compressors cost about $130. If your going to do 4 struts, a shop will probably charge $20 per strut to take the time and do it and many shops will look at it as at least 1hr of labor.. So that's gonna be $80-100 plus the gas to get to a shop.. If your planning on 4 struts, just buy a $130 compressor. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Coil-Spring-Compressor-6600-LBS-Auto-Strut-Hydraulic-Tool/201590947261?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D39836%26meid%3Deb476f4f230641a88c0c9f9892f83ce1%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D371662465547

2002 outback custom air filter and intake to throttle body
matt167 replied to Mack Truck's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAdvantage: ? Umm, it's noisy Disadvantage : Hot air intake, lesser filtration. Many more. If the 2002 Outback uses a MAF sensor, then you really don't want it because it changes the airflow charecteristics and therefore the tune will be off

matt167 replied to Dave643's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAbout a 2006-2007 Impreza or forester 2005 to 2008 will be a great vehicle within those requirements.

99 Legacy 2.2 missing when cold, OK when warm
matt167 replied to LeolaPA's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou would have to scan and watch live data.. If its not reading cold enough it could be doing that. Ecu always uses coolant temp.

1992 Subaru Loyal Engine Swap
The phase 1 ej20 is a JDM equivlant of the usdm ej22e. Beware there are phase 2 ej20 also. Either will work for u. Just know what year engine your getting and match wiring and ecu to that

EJ20G valve cover gasket

2000 forester manual swap
matt167 replied to mdjdc's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX1998-2001 Impreza center console will also work. The ecu is trans specific so you will also need a compatible ecu. 2000-2001 Forester or Impreza should work. The pedals for a '93-01 Impreza will also work. Or a forester up to 2001. Trans mount might need to come from a forester I'm not sure. Chassis is the same but the forester uses subframe spacers like an outback

Towing opinion
matt167 replied to dp213's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes I both would tow that with ease. I would recommend forester tho. Auto wrx are really de tuned. Not really worth the added turbo maint expense

2004 Forester oil seepage - Dealer vs. Mechanic?!
matt167 replied to ksignor's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBattery manufactures consider a battery running 80% of their capacity a good battery. So 440 out of 500 cca, that is right at 80%

wood trim peices?
matt167 replied to sirtokesalot's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI don't think they exist. I had a 1999 Legacy SUS 35th Ann Limited and if they were available, it would have had them. But it didn't

2001 Outback Motor 2.5 into 2003 Outback -need some confirming info
matt167 replied to 3Pin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes, cam and crank sprockets might be different. The only way you can be sure is to compare. Beyond that, the 2001 engine might not have an EGR but the 2003 engine should have one if it's an EJ253 I think. EJ251's were still used in 2003 though. You will need to keep the original intake manifold with the car. They are not interchangable

matt167 replied to brycarp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI don't even think all EJ22's had them. I know the '96 EJ22 that I did gaskets on did not.. But it should work fine if you drop one down.

For Next Year, Demo Derby "Miami" 1987 FWD GL
Do your rules allow an AWD? Any 4cyl class around here has a 2wd/FWD rule. They DO run Subaru's ( First Gen Leggy's take a beating before they quit too ). But, they are required to disable the AWD. The tracks know about the FWD fuse and not to allow a M/T that isn't somehow modded like a welded center with cut rear CV's

EJ20G valve cover gasket
matt167 replied to 90gt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI tried to look it up with Opposed Forces. but it only goes back to 1993 EDM which did not have a turbo at that time.. The other resource is www.japanparts.com which has part diagrams and you can gain part numbers. You could also order from them. Sites a bit slow tho Partsouq requires a chassis number to look up parts. Otherwise you have to search a P/N yourself and see if they can get it.

EJ20G valve cover gasket
matt167 replied to 90gt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUsdm ej25D should work. With a JDM, opposed forces is your friend. An EDM will be close enough for not to. It will tell u if something crosses. Www.partsouq.com gets stuff from overseas quickly.

XV recent changes
With a 1-2 year old Subaru. It never pays to buy used. 2015-current dropped the xv designation. And reverse cam is std. Beyond that, you really just gotta find what you want and used really wont be cheaper

2004 SG XT radiator into 2001 SF Forester?
matt167 replied to matt167's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAnyone know if SG A arms will provide the correct geometry if I use them in conjunction with a '02-'04 WRX/ Forester XT crossmember ( they share same P/N )? I know the struts swap. Essentially since I'm planning on using a WRX crossmember, I know my balljoints are probably stuck in the A arms and it would make sense to get cleaner ones anyway, and to get ones that wouldn't need shimmed. And then I could also use the FXT swaybar since the suspension would be SG

Matching Gearbox and Rear diff for a Japanes 2003 Subaru Forester
matt167 replied to JayTSubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe easiest way to figure out what you have got is, the trans code by the starter. That will give you the trans ratio.. If your front diff is 4.11 or 4.44, just match it to the rear diff of the same. Foresters used 1:1 center diffs so same front and rear. Unless the PO used a 1.1:1 center diff, then it could get messy but I THINK the 1.1:1 center diff was a USDM WRX M/T thing only
