Going where no brat has gone before.. lol
I Rhino'ed Summer and love it! I'd avoid the spray on undercoating, besides being heavy, they seem to take years to dry and if you brush up against it your going to get tar on your clothes even after it's dry. Spray on bedliners don't weigh as much and actually dry. Many-a rock crawler are Rhino'ed, for the same reasons your talking about. Subaru Baja paint codes?
Sweet82 replied to Harvester's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe Russians get such good looking cars... They also have an STi Forester... And the Auzzies have a Dual Range tranny still available... ...we get... Nothing! Gurrrrrr! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Fuel pump sucks...
First off, these are not American Machines? Second, I'd make sure it's really your fuel pump and not your fuel pump control unit? If the fuel pump control unit goes out, your fuel pump will not run. If it really is the fuel pump and your having difficulty finding a compatable replacement, why not try a Junk Yard or Auto recycling place? Just a thought? Newbie just bought 75 subaru on ebay
My bet is you'll be fine on your drive. I'd give the car a quick "once over" before you set out, but 400 miles is not that far. My biggest concern would be the tires. Welcome to the board, Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

good deal on 2000lb winch
Do a quick search for winches or harbor freight and you'll find some info and experience with these. I have one. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

locking rear diff ?
Humm.... I wonder how tough getting one would be and then duplicating it? If nobody makes them, would anyone care if it was duplicated... I wish I had a machine shop!

locking rear diff ?
I'll cast one vote "no way in hell" My advice would be three words Weld it ! (I guess it's really two words and an exclamation point) Either way my advice is the same. (or is it Ither way) Whatever? I'm leaving now!

2002 Forester gas milage
Sweet82 replied to Jim Landreth's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've got as low as 21 mpg on the road... and I have got as high as 35 mpg on the road. They tend to vary just a bit. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester--21 to 35

Over heating problem, 98' Forester
Sweet82 replied to tahoecush's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had some mysterious heating problems last fall. Seemed to occur mostly on hills or the flat after a hill. I'm now convinced it was a bubble in my cooling system. Improper filling of the cooling system can generate strange temp behavior. Not sure this is your problem but, since you've been messing with the system, I'd make sure your coolant is correctly filled. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Outback 2000 getting less than 12mpg
Sweet82 replied to kksquared's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHow about Fuel Injector Cleaner? I have a 4cyl Trooper that was down to 11 mpg a couple weeks ago. Some good quality Injector cleaner gave me a lot more power and the mileage went back up. Just a thought? Glenn,

Thanks All!!!
Great pics. I have never seen an engine done out on the street. The closest I've come to that is at a condo carport, where I did a quick swap before anyone had time to complain. I think you'll continue to find this board Rocks! Welcome to it. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Tow hooks and tow straps discussion
The longer the better as far as straps go. If your pulling you or someone else out, You may also be pulling them home...? 15' on the freeway is a real short distance! The factory tow points are usless! Don't trust them even in snow. (that's how I pulled my loops out)

Lincoln lockers and road driving
Quickly is a relative term...I'd think your looking at 15-20 minutes best case. Quick disconnect pins also go by the name of nails. If your going to weld your diff, you should reinforce your diff hanger at the same time. Both 3 wheeling and 4 wheeling will be hard on an unreinforced diff hanger. Three wheeling will cause you to drift towards the missing axle side during climbs. Four wheeling with a welded diff can give you unexpected results on snowy streets. Practical is also a relative term?...I'd say it would depend on how much you enjoy doing axle swaps. If you do remove an axle, I'd tell you to mark them with nail polish or junkyard marker so when you reinstall you'll know exactly where your splines need to be. They can look correct but still be in the wrong position. If you remember to take your corners gradually and don't mind your tires "barking" you can drive with a fully welded diff. Probably not the best thing for the car. The three wheel option is probably the better way to go... My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--Welded! 84 GL Mad Max--not welded. 01 Forester--Limited.

Anyone w/a passing light......
1982's had them, at least the GL's did. My 82 GL Hatch came with the cyclopse light. I think 83 was when they took them out not 82.

outback vs explorer
Give me an Explorer and I'll loose any Outback in no time. They are just two different vehicles. Not even in the same ball park. Comparing them is not realistic. However given a choice for a daily driver... I'd take the Outback with out a second thought!

Brushguard
I'd go for a rear skid plate before I'd worry about a rear brushguard? Seems to me a skid plate would serve you better and it could be a platform for adapting a brushguard? Just a thought? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--reinforced rear! 84 GL Mad Max--loose rear! 01 Forester--411 rear!
