  1. Welcome to the board! You must have at least two Subies for full membership. Or at least that's what they told me when I signed up? (so go buy the other one) In Utah there are three Soobs at any given intersection and at least two are white:lol:. Welcome, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  2. On and Off-road! When you get out and survey an obstacle it's always hard to get it back on. When your on steep or strange angle, seat belts don't like to cooperate. (esp. if you want to lean out, they require some adjusting.) BUT that's when your going to need them the most!!! If you are going to go up something ugly, there is potential for unexpected problems. If everything went as planned, we wouldn't need seatbelts, would we? My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--won't move until everyones bolted in! Yes it still has the seat belt chime! 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  3. The alternator is only hanging on with two bolts, Undo two bolts and remove the alternator. Take it to any auto parts store and ask them to test it. It's a 5 minute project. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--new alternator 84 GL--new used alternator 01 Forester--factory alternator
  4. They make a STi version of my car! And I don't have one:banghead: That Forester STi is just plain COOL! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester--non-STi version
  5. That's a cute one, I hope someone on the board picks it up! ...38 MPG? I didn't realize they got that good of mileage... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  6. Congrats! We want pics. Is this a daily driver for you? I didn't think any of those tops were removable.
  7. Summer, the "Trailer Queen" finally got a new ride. Well actually it's her first and only ride. Been looking for a trailer for 2 years now. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=584 Found this one for $100 and it was only 3 blocks from my house. It's a Metal Craft dual axle, 10'X6' flatbed, good rubber, jacks, good paint, no ramps, lights need work. The Buggy fits on it with room to spare and tows like a dream! Had to tell someone. I'll be off-roadin this weekend. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--now considered trailer trash! 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  8. B1, You most certainly can get more than a month out of your rear cv as is. How much you drive and where will have an effect on it. I think if you keep an eye on it and listen for clicking you could postpone that particular repair. Having said that, there are those on the board that say that repair can be done in 10-15 minutes. If you have a donor car you will get the feel for the work as you remove it off the donor. You'll be able to do the install even quicker on the driver vehicle. I have a (non-subie) car that has had a torn boot for 3 years now. It still doesn't click or make noise...and it still needs replacing... Good Luck, Glenn
  9. I thought the idea of chains up front was to dig a trench for the rest of the car? With 4WD you want your traction on the wheels that steer. You can change the direction of the car better with traction up front. Traction in the rear will just push the front wheels, possibly not in the direction you wanted them to go.
  10. Bidding has ended---Reserve Not Met! Go figure...no one would pay $800 for that.
  11. Got to be the Golden Crack in Moab. Bummer about his shock!
  12. My computer won't allow me to use the word Subaru and @rticulation in the same sentence:lol:
  13. Wait a minute...reliable engines don't need parts:lol:
  14. With all those Subies, I would have thought you would have been here much sooner. Welcome to the board. We like people who think outside the box. Creative thinking is how we have been able to get these old Subies so far off-road. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  15. Sounds Kinda strange.... I've never broken a cap yet. Worn out bunches but never cracked any. I the cap being installed correctly? Sounds stupid but there is that little tab must be in the right spot. Are all the caps cracking in the same place? Are they all the same brand? I'm confused, Oh ya, welcome to the board. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  16. The enviro-waccos will always be whining about something but if off-roaders as a whole, play by the rules and don't carve up the country side, we have a lot better chance of keeping the enviro-waccos at bay. Ya, ya, ya, we've all heard it before but it's not a bad thing to be reminded of. I have a substantial investment in off-road toys "Summer is just one of many". I enjoy these toys and I'd like to be able to do this with my kids for generations to come. Everytime "we" cut new trails or leave a visible mark or even don't pickup existing trail garbage, we are just cutting our own throats. Ok, I'll shut up now... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  17. I've driven the same EA81 for 23 years now and it just keep going....and going....well you get the picture. Never been in the shop for a motor problem. It's looking like a landslide victory for the EA81.
  18. I love MT. I was just up there. Too bad its so far away. Whine, whine, whine... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  19. If I'm not mistaken, you still have some room in your driveway... For more Subarus! Welcome to the board, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  20. I think it needs a giant key on the back. I'd bet there are a bunch of folks out there that are probably driving something real close to their dream machine? Not that we don't need to keep pushing ahead with new ideas but, I'm fairly impressed by some of the stuff that has already been built:cool: Just a thought, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--built the way I wanted it. 84 GL Mad Max--shows much potential. 01 Forester--waiting for warrantee to end.
  21. Bottom end umph would be good for playing around in the hills? Let us know...
  22. Did anyone endup ordering any of these wheels? Are they really $150 each? I paid half that for custom made rims for the Buggy. Just wondering.... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  23. Welcome to the board, There are just a handful of lifted newer Subies out there. I'd bet those guys would have some feedback on the handling associated with a lifted Subie. Good to have you here, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  24. Welcome to the board, We think it's the best Subaru Board around:) Why are you here? Do you have a Subie, thinking about a Subie, have evil plans for a Subie or just posted in the wrong board? Tell us, inquiring minds want to know. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  25. The Outback is nothing more than a trim package. It has nothing to do with it's ability to off-road. If it did, it would have a whole lot more modifications. The car as it is sold in the US is not setup for "Off-Roading". It's real market is snow. If you had an Australian Outback of the same year you would have a dual range transmission and lots of potential for Off-Roading. With a bit of common sence you can get any reasonable car quite a ways off the beaten path--but just like a Jeep it will only go so far with out modifications. But the bottom line answer is No! (it not really meant for off-roading) I can't get (the Forester) to spin a wheel going Uphill, around a corner, in gravel, Floored! Enjoy the car for what it is.
