What a way to start a day
Sweet82 replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That is so sad to hear. I realize it may be a little premature, but... What kinda parts you think we can score -
http://www.ausubaru.com/byb/ Backyard Boys http://www.oregonoffroadsubaruclub.org/ Mudrat lifts those things too. His site is down http://www.scorpionsubaru.com/ Scorpion makes quality stuff. Heres three other lifts. Gearing....so far the divorced T case is the only real solution... Many folks are trying to develop other ways but no one has nailed it yet. The rear suspension will drop forward because of it's trailing arm design. A lift is the only way to avoid tire rub with a stock suspension. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Glass-pack was a generic name for any tubular, fiberglass filled, muffler. Now someone has copyrighted the name and are selling cheap regular mufflers under the brand name "Cherry Bomb". I have a "Cherry Bomb" turbo II on my buggy but it's just a regular muffler that didn't cost much. A DOG's is a true glass pack which is still sometimes referred to as a Cherry Bomb.

Now Santa's list is ready... There's a couple things I'm scratching my head on, your apparently keeping the stock body shell and shortening the wheel base? That concept seems kinda mutually exclusive? I took 15" taken out of my driveline but I didn't use the old body. Also...why are you choosing carbs? If I had a choice, I'd use an injection system. My carb is a B'otch to refire on an angle. Document your build process. We want pics! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Owners post signs and people rip them out... Both sides have some obligations. The only way I have seen work is to put bolders or pipe barriers and then have the Sheriff enforce the no trespassing. That's kept me out! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Looks good, But one more vote for repositioning! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

1984 Emission part I.D. help!
Sweet82 replied to Sweet82's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I didn't pop off the air filter but I'd assume the filter would keep that melted plastic crap out? ...wouldn't it... -
Mad Max nuked an emission part over the weekend. Details, I removed a long section of hose from the bottom of the disk shaped part. It looked as though it didn't belong and made it sit funny compared to other 84's. There was some sort of metal object (valve?) in the hose I removed. I took the car on a 50 mile cruise and found the plastic disk (part of the emissions) nuked it's self. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=7862 Pictures worth a thousand words... Questions, What is this part? What does it do? Is it necessary? Can it be plugged? Will the car run right if I plug it? Not worried about emission testing... LOL! It wasn't me I swear!!! My Forester spent that night at work under a surveillance camara and I can get the tape to prove it...Officer. I was driving by about 9:00 the next morning (not in my Forester) and saw my neighbors out sweeping up glass out of the street. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester--no dents, scratches or scrapes and my radiator is in good shape!

Last Friday night about 2 a.m. some kids in Daddys (company car) Forester.... Cut a corner too close and clipped a Honda Civic parked on the side of the street moving it's backend three feet out into the road. From the impact, the Forester bounced across the street and hit a Jetta in the front and pushed it about two feet sideways. This then sent the Forester back across the street again where it then hit an Explorer. This pushed the Explorer about a foot and lifted it up onto the curb. At this point, believe it or not, the Forester then spead away... Wow, talk about a car built for todays driving! Ok, the rest of the story... Being stupid kids they then returned to the crime scene about 10 minutes later. Unfortunately, for them, the entire neighborhood was then awake and out looking at the damage. ...the smoking gun, well actually it was a smoking Forester... The kids in the heavily damaged, but highly mobile, Forester denied all envolvement? They then spead away leaking antifreeze the whole way. When the police arrived they recieved a great description of the vehicle, occupants and license plate.

A Little Tool for all you Junkyard Dogs

I had to resize it a bit to get it to print out exactly correct. Not a problem. I'm thinking Archive this Thanks, Glenn -
Do you have access to a tubing bender? You can remove the bolt on tie downs from the front of your Subie and use them as bolt plates for your push bar. http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo21/MVC_267F My foot is blocking the other plate...but you see the idea. If you can get it bent, you'll find someone who can weld the plates on.

A big, long, scary 2000 mile trip.

Heading in from the west to Antimony, your going to be on two lane roads. Not much out there, but if your limited to 55 mph that just might be good. -
I've driven around SLC for 23 years in my Subie. Many times heavly loaded or pulling a trailer up the canyons. I have never had a problem heating up at any grade or elevation. My heat gauge does not move. The stock electric fan keeps the temp constant. I'd top off the radiatior and go. My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Anybody know what this is from?
Sweet82 replied to SUBARU3's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm sure it would fit 80 - 84 but. Look at the bands in the plastic on this 84 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=7431&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 The one on Ebay has no bands through the plastic lenses. Not an 84! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL 01 Forester -
Scott, Stock drive train...so...not so extreme but... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=434&sort=1&size=medium&cat=500&page=4 The body is extremely modified. Bobbing is good but an exocage seems like it might tax a Subaru too much. Weight is the root of all evil for our cars. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Lower gears, using stock drive & 31" tires ?
Sweet82 replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Off Road
No one is using the Unimog axles these days, the prices are dropping. Everyone seems to be doing the Dana 60 routine, it's cheaper and easier to find parts.
