  1. I'd second the bulb idea. What caused them to go out? Well thats another concept... A black or silver looking bulb would be a problem. A cheap bulb tester could be made with a wire using your battery? Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  2. I'm weird, I kept "factory tires" on my 82 GL for 15 years. The only reason I quit was I couldn't find them anymore. They weren't good tires either, but I just liked the stock look. The best tires I've had were the non-factory ones... Weird, ya I know... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--now with non-factory tires!!! 84 GL Mad Max--now with my 82's tires. 01 Forester--now with whatever it came with tires.
  3. Hah! I know some Durango owners that are also getting 8-9 mpg!!! I couldn't afford that either. My 01 Forester has gotten as low as 21 on a trip and as high as 35 (last week). I was disappointed with the 21 and there was a solid head wind but that still beats 9 mpg. Thats just wasteful. The only negative things I've found on my 01 Forester is I didn't realize just how small they are inside...cramped when hauling people and gear. And the lack of a low range transmission has hurt my driving routine. Short of that I love the thing, It's zippy! I think it's a blast to drive. For the record, I paid $11,900 in the spring of 2003 with proper miles. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  4. On a flat road, no brakes, does it pull to one side or the other? On mud/snow/water if you can find it, will one side lock up before the other?
  5. Jerry, I wanna see your car. I esp. want to see your headlight stone guards. Do you have a link? I couldn't find anything Thanks, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Wagon 01 Forester
  6. Welcome to the board! Your in the right place for old Subies. I'd leave the motor alone and just drive it... However if you wanna swap motors an EJ22 comes to mind? Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Wagon 01 Forester
  7. My first thoughts would be.... Has the car been in an accident? Has this car been painted? Just a thought? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Wagon 01 Forester
  8. Great Video. Makes me want to go out and play. ...and I'm stuck at work :-\ Looks like a fun time was had by all. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Wagon 01 Forester
  9. After you see the doctor, Give us an update on the insurance & Subie issue...
  10. I've got no problem putting a new cap on. That would be a cheap fix, if thats the problem. I drove it to work an back yesterday and it didn't overflow into the coolant tank like it did the prior day. That's good, but... nothing has been consistent so far with this cooling problem. I'm waiting and keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Wagon 01 Forester--on probation
  11. Looks like a fun car for $100. That should have the 3'rd eye light? ...So is there a lift in your future? Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Wagon 01 Forester
  12. The Pick and Pull in SLC has a silver Brat with T-tops and I believe it had seats in the back. A peak through the fence could confirm that. I know of several other yards around...lemme know what your looking for, I may have it/know where it is? Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Wagon 01 Forester
  13. Last night, after a six mile drive, I smelled Antifreeze again.... I looked under the hood and found a drop of antifreeze on the back of my fan support next to the radiator overflow tank? This tells me the overflow tank had overfilled and was spilling out. I ended up putting around/at least 32 oz. of antifreeze back in the radiator to fill it properly per the manual, last night. Last week, I topped off the overflow tank before I left on my trip but not the radiator. During the trip I topped off the overflow tank several times... I'm not sure when I lost (32+ oz.) but if that was down before the trip, could that cause the temp spikes? Or are the temp spikes causing the loss of coolant? Chicken or the Egg... Thoughts? 14. ...and when your finished with that the next step is to post your question only once...
  15. Looks like a Chrysler product on it's very last outing
  16. I'm not sure your wagon had the adjustable suspension. I have only owned the previous body style. But, If you have the adjustable suspension you could tell by looking at your front struts. The adjustable ones will have two bolts on each side of the spring saddle. These bolts compress and decompress the spring allowing you to change the height of the (front) car. On the rear suspension, if you have it, it will be a bolt facing up in the center of the vehicle on the rear trailing arm crossmember. It will have a rubber plug in the chassis to allow you to adjust it from the top as you can't really see it from the bottom of the car. Would someone with an EA82 wagon please fess up and answer this...
  17. Welcome, I'd bet you'll enjoy your new toy. That's a sweet ride but becareful... They get kind of addicting... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Wagon 01 Forester
  18. I'm with Cookie, Check the manual, if I remember right it will take a while to reset it's self. I had the same thing happen but it came on a lot quicker than 100 miles. The manual kinda down plays the problem which seem kind of ironic. After all the light says check engine!!! ...not ignore light for a while!!!
  19. I have the exact same thing... The first time I noticed it...I found the water pump "By Pass" hose was cut and started leaking. Once I fixed that I have still been able to smell antifreeze when the car is warm or has been run a while. Everytime I smell it now there are no leaks under the car anywhere and there IS coolant in the overflow tank. I'm under the theory that it's the coolant from the tank that I'm smelling. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester--has antifreeze smell from time to time...
  20. That car is just plain cool. If it were me, I'd restore it to the original condition and keep it as a Sunday driver/show car. It seems that with 16 documented miles you'd be spoiling a one-of-a-kind find by changing it or driving it. Welcome to the board! Just my .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Wagon 01 Forester
  21. Here are some pics of my $40 investment, The first two are "stock" http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=584 The rest....well...you knew I had too... ...you would have tried it too! Makes a strong case for a lift.... Still laughing, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Wagon--Mad Max 01 Forester
  22. Donny, I was up in West Yellowstone over the weekend, beautiful country. What ever happend with the RX? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Wagon 01 Forester
  23. I have no idea on plugs...? The only thing I did different is put 30.5 psi in the tires all the way around. When I got 21 mpg, I had the tires lower as it was a winter trip and I wanted more tire on the road. I noticed the gas along the way was 85 octain rather than 86 in SLC. I'm baffled too...
