How to tell if its the turbo version of the GL?
Sweet82 replied to burrito007's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Even if it does say GL-10 it may or may not be a turbo. From the front view (pics), I don't think there is anything that will tell you if it's a turbo. Unless he has a pic from under the hood??? A GL 4X4 with a manual is not a bad thing without the turbo Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -
Brake pedal sinks to the floor,
Sweet82 replied to Hank Roberts's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Your problem is not going to cause puddles of fluid to pile up on the floor. Your system needs bleeding or your master cylinder needs replacing! Pump your brakes when you need to stop! Bleed your brakes as soon as you have time. If this does not cure the problem. Replace your mastercylinder!---then you need to bleed the system again Quit worrrying and do this! -
I think Jumping will probably take it's toll over time... However the body on these babies are solid. I've sawed them in half and cut them in two, down the middle lengthwise. They are a whole lot more solid than you'd think. If you don't have any major rust issues... I'd think your Subie will take some punishment with out hurting the integrity of the unibody. However...once you tweek your unibody the car would develop major handling and suspension problems. It would screw the car up big time! My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Pump your brakes, don't just hold them to the floor. If they come back alive you should consider bleading them and then start looking at the mastercylinder. I'd bet you have a mastercylinder problem too. It's not a big deal to replace. Lots of good info in this thread. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -
Welcome to the board, They were supposed to have solved that back in 2000, but it appears as though it's not totally solved. The only thing I know about is the recall involving the "Coolant Conditioner". I'm not convinced this did anything to stop the problem either... My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I understand that on some models of the Impreza, the factory torque specks for the pulley's are misprinted. Aparently they require MUCH more than the manual specifys. It is actually a fairly common problem, more people than you'd think have WELDED the pulleys back on. My neighbor welded his pulley on his Impreza and the car works fine. I understand from engine rebuilding places that they see this frequently on the Impreza. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

My new project, Air Cooled Vanagon to Subaru EJ22 Conversion
Sweet82 replied to ShawnW's topic in Subaru Transplants
Shawn, Musta lost it... I'll P.M. you. -
I heard it but have not seen it? I was listening to the TV (not watching) and I missed it Ok, how does one listen to TV and not be able to see it? I was outside trimming bushes and wasn't going to drop everything to go see a commercial that will just be repeated endlessly anyway. My kids have seen the commercial and they said it looked like the Posche/VW SUV. One of the few commercials I actually want to see--once. Funny, I was going to put out a post about the new commercial too :-p

moving a wagon stuck in 4th gear
Sweet82 replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'd tow it with the Brat. I think you'd have some problems getting it to 4th gear speed off starter motors and burned clutches. Get a long tow strap and tow it. Freeway towing is smooth. Just keep reloading... Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -

Maybe I have too much time on my hands but... Have you noticed how many Subaru's are on your block? I was kinda supprised when I actually counted them up. I found 8 just on my block on my street. 3 Foresters 4 Outbacks (and 1 highly modifed 82 GL) So... How many on your block? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

It's cute but it looks like the engine is removed? That's going to hurt it's price.
