  1. Now your loosing me, Stock Subarus weigh 2400+, loaded and in the real world they weigh more than that. Stock tires will measure out to 22.5" not 26" I stopped at 26" for gearing, I don't drive around in 4 lo. I built this for off-road!...Not for the street. Weighs less and performs better than anyones stock Subaru. Makes sence to me...it's a great toy.
  2. ....So put some tires on it!.....
  3. I hope were still on point with the tires...? I built Summer bigger, faster & stronger than the plans called for. I put rock sliders on the sides, a funky "Xterra" roof line/luggage rack. I stretched the plans and made it a 4 seater. What i'm really trying to justify is....Summer weighs #2000 even! Gassed and ready to rock. I was hoping for #1500 and I think that is possible but not with the way I built it. The aluminum probably weighs close to #200. The plans are metric so you can't get the exact steel called for. The stuff I used is thicker than the plans called for. Any point that can touch a rock is even thicker steel! This puts me right at the weight limit for the tires....unless I run duallys... http://www.rhinobuggies.com.au/images/stalkerdualy.jpg
  4. I second the motion... I ripped out my rear tie-down on my Hatch years ago when the car was basically new (no rust). When the tie-down gave way it dented the panel under the bumper as it shot out. The sad part is, I didn't want to hook it to that tie-down but let someone talk me into it :-p I'll never tow with any stock tie-down point again. ...and don't even think about hooking anything to your stock bumper... Now I have real tow Points....http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo21/MVC_166F Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  5. Go to the "Market Place" --- grovel & beg!
  6. Don't let this get you down! You'll find more things that need replacing in the future
  7. Have you tried posting this over in the "Market Place" section? It might get some exposure there too?
  8. The Rallitek one is the one I was thinking of... http://rallitek.com/products.asp?ID=159&PP=&HB=&ACC=Y&SP= I'm not sure how it works though? Remove grill when in use? This ones got me confused
  9. Value would kinda depend on the area your in but over here you could get good money out of a newer Brat
  10. I just purchased a second fan from a JY for the buggy. I didn't have A/C so I got an A/C fan off another Subie. It's real flat and fits into the pre-drilled holes in the radiator. Works like a charm! Good luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--dual fans. 01 Forester--dual fans.
  11. Welcome to the board! I think you'll like it here... Lots of nice knowledgable people hanging around here. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  12. I considered both of those exact tires. I decided against the mudzilla because of the depth of the tread. I didn't get the outlaws because of the price. I paid $57 for the 26" GBC Dirt Devils. They have an 1 1/4" lug. Some tires have 2" now!!! The problem with deep lugs is they give you a real bad ride until you "plain out". Once you get over 5 mph the ride is not so bad but until then you feel every lug going around on the tires. You don't roll when you first start out, you klunk
  13. Mick, I think someone beat you to it.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=306557#post306557 I believe most of those tires are rated at about #500lbs which is about the weight of a standard ATV. Spread the weight of an ATV over four tires and the working load is not much. However, the average Subaru is around 2500lbs loaded? You'd be seriously overloading those tires if they are rated the same as other 6plys..? Having said all that there are a bunch of ATV tires mounted on Subies. The secret is inflating the tire pressure big time more than what you would run if it were an ATV. I run 2.2 to 3.3psi in my ATV. I run 22 to 33psi in the buggy and it seems to work. I was giving rides in the buggy for the kids at a kids parade over the 4th and my GBC Dirt Devils were pretty cruel to the lawn I was driving on... For what it's worth, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--26X12X12 GBC Dirt Devils 01 Forester--factory rubber.
  14. We need new ideas, this is all good. Too bad it wouldn't work. The weight would be a problem with a setup like the dual dual / trannys and associated drivelines. Seems to me the best we can do at the moment is the divorced transfer case.
  15. I'd look to see if the light bulb is any good then check backwards to the tranny. Is there a fuse? That could be causing this problem.... Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  16. Shawn, Let me know when your going to be going through SLC. Maybe we can hook up for a bit? As far as the freeway goes, it's good wide open freeway once you get out of the city. Keep it 8-9 over and no-ones going to bother you (they'll be passing you ). Talk to you later. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--gettin better all the time... 01 Forester--gettin driven all the time...
  17. Aliens have implanted a chip in your Subie! Don't let them know that you know!!! Stay cool and keep your eyes on the road but secretly watch for UFO's following you
  18. Someone sells a rally bar that bolts on the bumper in the grill area. It was on the board a while back but I can't find the thread... What about mounting them on the front of the push bar? After all you'll never push anything with that "Push Bar". You could also make a small metal "Z" type mount bottom could be inserted between the push bar and the bumper using the existing bolts. The top part of the "Z" could be used to bolt to the light. Thus you could raise the mount height of the lights enough to clear the useless plastic push bar? Just a couple thoughts. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--no push bar needed!!! 01 Forester--complete with useless plastic push bar!!!
  19. Isn't it funny how a girl posts a meet and greet type message in the wrong forum and gets 4 pages of replys... Put your tougue back in your mouth boys :-p Oh ya........Welcome to the board Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  20. Have you though about bending the shifter just a bit??? I have the same basic problem in the SubaruHummer :-\
  21. If I was looking to make a rear park brake, I wouldn't use the HH system at all. I'd swap disk brakes from the front of a donor car to the rear of your car. The disk calipers already accept the park brake cables. It would then just be a matter of connecting the park brake cables, or even a second set of cables and a handle? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=6002&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 When I was talking about looping yourself, I was meaning something similar to a park brake U-turn except unexpectedly while applying the brake with the clutch in. However if you used a second PKB lever and not the HH system that would not happen unexpectedly.
  22. Too Much for Subie!!! I won't tow the SubaruHummer with the Forester. It's generally not a question of can it tow (the Forester could do it)...it's really more a question of can it stop the load and trailer in an emergency situation. I'd think your tires and brakes would be overworked with that much of a load. The most I tow with mine is around a #1000 pounds. What does the manual say? Anyone.... Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  23. Sk'o , is in the general L.A. area? I always wanted to go to the tar pits but never did when I lived down there. :-\ Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  24. I was just messin with you The "Dual Diagonal" braking system was designed to keep the car straight during hard braking. Kind of an early attempt at ABS. Why would you want to mess with it? I've never heard of anyone changing the system like that? The truth of the matter is you could probably do anything you wanted. However it would be a mess trying to re-configure your mastercylinder area. There is little tolerence at the master-cylinder for switching the brake lines around. You'd probably end up having to run new lines to the front and rear. When your finished you'd end up with a system that on snow and dirt would give you the possibility of looping yourself when you started sliding with the HH actuated? What advantages are your thinking you'll find with a reconfigured system?
