anyone know if new 1st gear set can be made?
Available for the Impreza 2.5RS version 1 and 2 tranny and WRX tranny (just specify which year and model you have) for $4,200 Australian Dollars. At current conversion rates 0.7739, cost is only $3,250 + $149.95 S&H to your door from Australia (plus any applicable duties and taxes through US customs). This is $500 less than the nearest competetor! Figure USD are about half what the Australian ones are. Even dividing the prices in half that's kinda pricey....

Lower gears, using stock drive & 31" tires ?
Nine inches is a substantial raise... A raise like that would raise your center of gravity and change some of the handling we enjoy. Why couldn't you raise it just enough to have the gears & chain clear each other? I'm assuming theres something in the way?

anyone know if new 1st gear set can be made?
If first gear could be swapped out for a lower gear that would be great. A granny gear would be handy but then you'd have a huge jump to a way high second gear? With big tires that jump would be a problem. A set of gears say 1 & 2 may be more useful if it could be done... I'd be willing to have a big hole in the side of my tranny to allow lower gears. ...cover the hole with part of a road sign and some duct tape...

someone needs this!
They should have done a better job adapting the "body" to the frame. It looks like what it is, a Brat bolted on a tracked platform. You might as well bolt a out house on the thing. If it had the original body, I'd be interested for $2,000

Legacy Wagon or Forester
Sweet82 replied to Still thinkin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen we were looking for a Subaru, we didn't care what model we found. The differences/spec. are insignificant for my purposes. Looked at many Outbacks, Legacys and Foresters. I think both will get the job done for you. I ended up with a Forester because I was able to pick it up for a grand under low book. My decision was based off getting the best deal. I don't think it really matters, they are so similar. Buy the one you like. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

2006 Facelifted Impreza's have arrived!
Sweet82 replied to Subie Gal's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSubaru has B-9'd (Trebecasized) everything they make now! It all started with that ugly B-9 roadster grill. Are they trying to copy Dodge and use the same ugly grill on everything they make? Bad Subaru! Go back to the drawing board...and write "I will design a better grill" 100 times :-p

Lower gears, using stock drive & 31" tires ?
The problem with dropping the trans but not the engine and adding a gear reduction would be... you'd be dropping All your gears. So if you went with a 2:1 reduction you'd get a 40 to 1 crawl ratio which may get the job done... But, You'd be dropping your top end speed by half too...so 80 to 40 mph? Short of changing the internal gearing, I don't think there is anyway other than a divorced T-case. Dreaming... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Duallies!
I'll add a pic.... 56K warning!!! http://www.rhinobuggies.com.au/images/stalkerdualy.jpg http://www.rhinobuggies.com.au/images/stalkerdualy1.jpg For those of you who don't wanna pull it up, It's RhinoBuggy with Dual Wheels. I believe they are probably 15". The Buggy is a RhinoBuggy Stalker. 100% Subie at heart. While I'm at it... I'm not sure Duallies are really a solution to anything. I'd think they would cause more problems than they'd solve. My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

'FREE' gen 1 brat stuff
Just grab the parts anyway...who knows who will need what down the road. It will make the owner feel better if more of his car is used for others. The parts can always be pitched later if they really are too bad to use. Take as much as you can get. Offer to haul the carcus off when your done and save him the trip. ....and thank the owner for his generosity! my .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Funny WRX pic.
It looks a little like sprayed on mud... ....sprayed on by someones tires.... How do you get mud that far forward on the car anyway.

Performance Radiator Hoses...
I usually get a decade out of mine ...When did I change them last?

Need opinions on this Brat.
Hard to go wrong if you can actually pick it up for $100. With the current state or the car, it would only be valuable to an enthusiast

tallest tire to fit on 85/86 GL wagon?
Do they make any decent 25" tires for your 15" rims?

tallest tire to fit on 85/86 GL wagon?
A Forester is not going to climb like your D/R GL! It's different car designed for different terrain. There is an equation you must balance Climbing V.S. Clearance? Bigger tires will give clearance but take away your climbing ability? If your really not wanting to spend money, I'd just put the larger tires and put up with some rubbing. Did you ever really get an answer on what tire will fit w/o rubbing on the 15" rim? Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Not using BRAT for year-how to prepare
I personally believe cars need to be driven. I'd have a neighbor drive it around every now and then. In my mind that would mean making sure it gets run long enough to reach operating temp. Some good solid high rpm acceleration would not be a bad thing as part of a maintenance program. Things like dried out seals, dead batterys, varnished fuel, carbon deposits could be avoided with a little driving... My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--driven twice a week...for it's own good. 01 Forester--sits for one week every three weeks.
