Snapped Key Removal from Door Lock
Sweet82 replied to Mantonite's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
A locksmith will use a small piece of metal shaped like a harpoon and pull it out by hooking some part of the key. You could make something similar with a piece of an old tape measure. I doubt you'd find a pair of tweezers small or flat enough to actually fit in the lock and grip it. The pins are going to try and hold the key in place Broken keys are not a known common problem with Subies that I know of... Your dealer should be able to cut you a "courtesy key" for free. Every dealer I have been to has done this with a smile for free! Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--many courtesy keys cut 84 GL Mad Max--need to go get a courtesy key cut 01 Forester--two courtesy keys cut -
Will it run on starting fluid? Is there any gas in the fuel filter. Could you pull the gas line and see if anything is there...be careful. Is the pump pumping? Are you getting a spark? Don't check this with any gas/vapors present. You'll find the problem. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Electrical system, Why......

Checker Auto, told me they had a rebuild kit for the Subie Alternators. Has anyone had any luck with the rebuild kits? Are they tough to do? Is a JY alt a better gamble? -
I have the same problem with Mad Max, 84 GL (EA81). I was told it won't pass emissions testing. A neighbor told me to delute my gas by 2/3 with denatured alcohol. He guaranteed it would pass Thoughts... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

new to sub 4x4 world need info
Sweet82 replied to El Toro's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
With your stock 13" rim your not going to have much selection in tires. Snow tires or an aggressive radial is the best your going to find. Tons of threads about Pugeot rims and redrilling truck rims. Try a search in the old school forum. Does your 86 have the adjustable suspension? Free lift if it does. (ok its a small lift) Welcome to the board. Your in the right place. Another Subaru 360 Sedan for sale on Craigslist
Sweet82 replied to Bubs's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
$1,200...Not bad for a complete project car. You'd spend a bunch more than that if it wasn't complete. -
Amen! Why they didn't do this in the U.S. is beyond me.

Do 81 Subarus have timing belts???
Sweet82 replied to Alexx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Don't worry about the timing belt/gear issue. Let your mechanic do the axles and see how it works. If it doesn't feel right, give it a tune-up. Tune-ups usually cure everything that ails those old Subies. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--basic tune has always cured it. 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester -
01 Forester, has had this obnoxious squeek & rattle/knock for over a year now. It has been driving me nuts! I've had the kids in back pushing on various pieces of plastic trying to isolate the noise... No luck! I've been back there doing the same thing... No luck! Last night, I undid the drivers side rear seat and folded it forward on a hunch... No Rattle!!! I know you don't care but I had to tell someone. It's been driving me nuts forever! And now I know what it is....! Now all I have to do is fix it. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL--Mad Max 01 Forester--gave up it's secrets today.

That is just plain cute! Nothing I can buy... :-\

Ya they're dangerous but they're still cute. Who are you going to hit in the backyard anyway? You could off-road it and give the Yamaha Rhino, Kawasaki Mule some run for thier money. Still dreaming... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

So this beast was given to me... what to do?
Sweet82 replied to Luth's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds like your motor was sick from the start. The fact that the motor is seized backs that up. These cars are not fast but they should be able to get you around in a stock configuration. Sounds to me like you'd prefer just to sell it and move on? I'd think you'd be able to get around $500 from someone with a spare motor laying around in their garage. Just a story I need to tell.. I had a rough day..

Welcome to the board, Lots of Subie people here. Most of us seem to just buy Subarus not sell them. Good Luck, I've never sold a Subaru! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester -

Welcome to the board, Warning! There are many whacky people here--enjoy them! This place is a great resource, and cheaper than a Dealer. Great pics, so which car is faster? There are a bunch of Board members down your way, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
