  1. I can't see why they'd dump the Forester? The Baja isn't selling well and that might make sence, but the Forester has carved out a niche and seems to be doing fine. If they have to dump something I'd cast one vote for the Tribecca My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  2. I have never had a problem with my 82? That's a 1982 Ok, I'm not being helpful. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  3. I agree with the Dealer idea. If it were a real Subaru option there would be others and it would be in their brochure for that year. Dealers do that sort of thing to get a car that just won't sell. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  4. Great Pics & write up. The engine looks great, wish my engine looked that good.
  5. Does the plastic trim around the roof molding match the interior plastic? I have an 84 with a sun roof and it has hinges on each side up front and one center latch in the back which doubles as a pop up vent and it's removable. My sun roof plastic matches my door molding plastic. I think my roof is factory? The sun roof was not part of the GL package. It might have been part of the GL-10 package? Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  6. I think a message board is all were going to get There are no old Subies here, it's all new.

  8. So what happens next... More, more, more!
  9. I just squeeked 35 mpg out of my 01 Forester two weeks ago. This was my best by a long shot. I have got 21 mpg on trips in the past. What I did different this time was, (and I'm not sure if this is what did it) Aired the tires up over 30 psi. Didn't use the Air Conditioning. Kepted it under 84 mph. Used the cruse control most of the way. The car was loaded with 4 peps + gear. When I got 21, I had the tires around 25 psi. Used the A/C. Averaged just under 90 mph. Used the cruse control most of the way. The car was loaded the same. My hunch is slower with more air in the tires and no A/C will help. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  10. I'll cast another vote for an improperly blead cooling system. Fan connections also make some sence. You should have heard those.... I just finished (I hope) a battle with this in my Forester.
  11. Still waiting.... This is one thread I keep checking back on... I'm still debating lifting the Road Warrier. I'm sure I could do the lift but I'd enjoy reading about it first. Thinking, waiting, ...impatiently Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--lifted 84 GL Mad Max--low rider 01 Forester--needs gearing an a lift.
  12. A gain of less than 3? T-case time. P.S. A buddy offered me his basic sammi T-case for $75 deal? or not?
  13. If your worried about depreciation, Go track the Impala for 5 or 6 years then Track the Subaru for the same time frame See which holds its value more. ....Subaru.... People just don't want an old impala.
  14. I like it! Give us some details... Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  15. Don't feel bad, We all said the same thing too! Welcome to the board. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester--can't find any more things to put on it...
  16. As for engines, I'd take a quick inventory of what you have on hand and make a decision based off that. From the pics, it seems like you may have a spare Subie motor hanging around. I'd go for whatever is the least work to install and get running.
  17. Put out a thread in the "Market Place" forum and see what's available. They might be a little tough to come by picking through junk yards... Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  18. What engine did Rising Sun offer you for $395? If it was a EA71 (1600) it should fit directly in? Also "fit" is a relative term. Anything could be shoehorned in. How much work are you willing to do? Oh ya, Welcome to the board! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester (There are several members in your area.)
  19. Looks like a keeper to me! I cast one vote for restoration! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  20. This thread seems to be headed the right direction... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41936
  21. What are you looking to do? Tell us your evil plans Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  22. Welcome to the board, I was shopping for an Outback or a Forester too. I didn't care which one I got as I liked both. I let price make my buying decision. (Low Book, no body work, no door dings without high miles) It seems to me they are both the same car with minor differences. Some of the older outbacks/foresters had some issues with head gaskets. I'd get as new as you can afford. The gas mileage is Ok but not great, you pay for the AWD. If you need MPG there are better cars around. I have not seen any real complaints on the A/C system. And the heaters cook! Belts are no different than any other car, replace them when you should! Brakes and electrical don't seem to be issues with these cars. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  23. Fill up the radiator slowly and then top off the overflow tank at the proper level. Give the car another shot and see if it still misbehaves when you have the correct amount of coolant in the system? I had a similar issue and it looks as though I was low on coolant and had a bubble in the system. I filled it properly and now, mine appears to be happy.
  24. I just did a quick search in the "Old School" forum...This thread should help. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41415&highlight=adjustable+suspension Look under your wheel well up front and see if your strut has these ajustment bolts just under the bottom of the spring. If it does just crank it up. I'd suggest unloading the suspension and putting penetration oil on the bolt before you begin. Join us in the Old School forum, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  25. I've been looking at making one for my 84.... ...Waiting for a link fix... Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--lifted 84 GL Mad Max--needs a lift 01 Forester--no lift until a D/R is installed.
