Can't Change Climate Control Settings
nipper replied to lostinthe202's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThis is an electrical unit. This is a good time to replace the bulbs as the unit is going to have to come out. Its possible that this is as simple as a loose electrical connector on the back of the control panel. It happens. nipper

But i read Wiki and wont pass it on if it is wrong. i just didnt feel like typing all that out today. Its only compression ratios. if you want a deep meaning thermodynamics explanation on a molecular basis you have to wait till i feel better.

Want to buy an Outback.
nipper replied to wannasubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSubaru is selling everything it makes, so they are not cutting off thier noses in spite of thier faces to make a sale. However an entirely new OB si coming out in 2010, so you may be able to get a deal on a 2009, but i am not sure. Sooby delaeers seem to be fairly fair in thier pricing, but hey, i cant negotiate either. good luck. nipper

Procedure For Replacing Fuel Filter
nipper replied to subsince77's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell there are many hybrid cam drive engines out there. Some use belts to drive a cam, then the cams will be synched to each other with a small chain. This does make them freewheeling, but they are still basically interference. It is splitting hairs, but something you need to be aware of you ever rebuild one of these heads. I dont know if the toyota did this. I have heard "freewheeling" applied to these engines. nipper

Engine Not Starting After Engine Swap: 00 Forrester into 00 OBW
nipper replied to dpoynt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes cam sprockets. Outbacks are made in the US, Foresters in Japan. Same with the engines. As bad as this sounds it should be a simple fix to change the sprockets. nipper

2.5 With Oil Cooler?
This is factory, and it isnt as much a cooler as a tempp stabalizer. It also helps the oil warm up in winter, as the water heats up faster then the oil does. Damaged water pump?

nipper replied to codytotheh's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy guess would be the main or oil pump seal went and it was all down hill from there. How much oil is in the crankase? When was the last time the seals were replaced. I think you are quite boned.

Caution new atf
nipper replied to The Dude's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXExactly. Fluid is cheap compared to the unit itself. There are many reasons why a MFG tries to extend the service interval, some good, some bad. I dont know the logic behind this move, but longer fluid change intervals usually shorten the life of whatever it is protecting. nipper

Acronym Definitions
nipper replied to doc526's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe best way to get around it really is to spell out what the acronym means in a post along with the acronym (like this). this way it also shows up in a search. http://www.aa1car.com/library/acronyms.htm see if that helps. nipper

Procedure For Replacing Fuel Filter
nipper replied to subsince77's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe fuel is under static pressure. As soon as a drop or two of fuel escapes the pressure drops dramtically. I have yet to ever have an issue except for a stubborn line. nipper
