Intermittantly sputtering Legacy
nipper replied to Mikevan10's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUnplugged O2 sensor might affect mileage and performance, might not, wont hurt anything. Driving in fail-safe mode dramatically reduces performance. O2 sensors get old and lazy, and wont throw a code always till they get really bad. nipper

Intermittantly sputtering Legacy
nipper replied to Mikevan10's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWTF? It sounds like autozone just did not want to it. I have seen scanners that will only pull the codes for the illuminated CEL, and nothing more, not the other way around. Or they just do not know how to use thier scanner. Its sort of like having an xray machine that wont pick up broken bones. nipper

Intermittantly sputtering Legacy
nipper replied to Mikevan10's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFouled plugs, weak wires, and a poor fuel mix due to malfunctioing maf or a clooged filter, they can all be connected. Upi need air spark and fuel to make the car go, of course they can all be connected, because without one the others dont work. nipper

What model Subaru is it?
Justies were 3 doors and 5 doors, about the same size, but never a notchback. Tercels (toyo) were notchbacks. nipper

what comp should a ea82 have ?
and do a wet and dry test. That will tell us alot more too. Right now those numbers show tired rings, but i think your numbers may be wrong, as the car should be down some power too. nipper

looking to buy a new suby... any advice?
nipper replied to ashleem's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSince no one has really answered you, there are a few things to be aware of. Inspect the coolant in the radiator. Dont go soley by the over flow tank (as no one cleans those nor flushes them). Look for contamination. Always take a sooby to a parking lot (or any awd vehical) and do figure 8's. The car should do it smoothly with little or no throttle. With TB or mis matched tires, the car will struggle and lurch, and may even stall. If its an auto, check the FWD fuse holder to make sure there is no fuse in it. Make sure all the tires match. Tmoing belts are every 106,000 miles. And yes that car is over priced. good luck. nipper

looking to buy a new suby... any advice?
nipper replied to ashleem's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAny AWD vehical has the tire issues, and they always have, ever since audi made its fulltime awd quattro (before that subarus were good old fashined 4wd). The coolant thing is over blown. If you just add coolant the way they taught people how to do it for the last 50 years or so there is no issue. There are other cars out there that have the cooling system "issue" that really just comes down to procedure. The only truth is that they are fussy about some aftermarket parts, because the aftermarket parts in question are made cheaply. They arent the only car outh there that are picky. nipper

EJ22T running rich, O2 sensor wires & error codes in all 4 injectors
nipper replied to s'ko's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXStep 1, throw away the universal O2 sensor, and get a OE O2 sensor, that may be part if not all of your problem. Yes an incorrectly wired sensor can even blow the ecu depending how poorly its wired. There are reasons it has three wires. The front sensor should always be OE, the rear can be universal. Step 2, Stop breaking things. nipper

99 Outback Rumble During Sharp Turns
nipper replied to njvitek's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAll AWD soobies: Tires must be equally worn Tires should be properly infalted Tires should all match. If they are all ok On automatics: Transmission flush On Manual: Nothing else to do. It sounds like your at a stage where a fluid change or proper tires will correct it. Manuals are 1200.00 repair, automatics 800-900 if you take it to a dealer (less if its just a bad solenoid). I always say go with a dealer on this one as a tranny shop will try to sell you a tranny when you dont need it. Welcome to the board. nipper

H.I.D. Lights on Loyale - Yes or Not? ... Why?
Does this have a circuit breaker on the light circuit? It's been a long time i dont remember. Usually the dash lights are on a branch thats seperate from the head lamps, with a commonality at the switch. I would look for a problem before the switch. Or a bad ground. nipper

2000 Outback drive shaft problem?
nipper replied to kwkslvr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTechnically the may need replacing anywhere from 60,000 miles up, but sooby's they start to share failure around 150K or better I recomned KYB GR-2's. They are cheaper then factory, a little bit on the stiff side (at this point anything you put in there is going to feel stiff) when cold, but great struts. nipper PS have you ever replaced the PCV valve?

2000 Outback drive shaft problem?
nipper replied to kwkslvr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou are overdue for struts. Blu did the same thing at 190,000 miles, a front one was blown and a rear one broken. I thought the rear noise was the exhaust system, but new struts made it go away. nipper

2000 Outback drive shaft problem?
nipper replied to kwkslvr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXim guessing a blown strut or broken strut. Thats about the only place where you can bounce the car and make a noise. Next would be a borken exhaust hanger. Then finally a suspension bushing. nipper
