SUGGESTIONS??? On where to start looking?
nipper replied to RONAN's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Vacume leak, either from under the hood, the resivoir, or at the control switch. This is typical of a vac leak in the HVAC system. nipper -
In new york there used to be a law stating how high ones vehical can be. Now all I can find is the NYS inspection regulation stating that headlamps lamps have to be 24-52" off the ground, and tail lamps 15-72" off the ground. There is a max height of 13 1/2 feet in NYS (after that your an oversized vehical). We have a few pickup trucks lifted that high (surf fisihing) I would think that WA would be more liberal.

Cool Video!

Well there are a few issues. First this is not a lab test, but was done in a dealership. the "torque steer" was from the tire tred pattern, and not from torque steer. Even the subaru did it to some extent. aggressive tire pattern will make the tires walk. Subaru doesnt decide when to send power to the front wheels (forester part) as they are by default front wheel drive. AWd systems being secret http://corporate.honda.com/press/article.aspx?id=3653 (complete with a drawing) The AWD systme on the toyota comes from a sienna seems to have a center diff with some sort of torque control . VW http://media.vw.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=9754 Its a shame, otherwise its an interesting video. Alos VW has a halidex system, http://www.haldex-xwd.com/ that doesnt seem to secretive to me. I wonder why they didnt test more cars..... nipper -

freezing issue!!!
nipper replied to Zefy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
yes dont run the waterpump on a frozen engine. Its muchsafer to warm the engine up so all the ice melts. Its possible to get a steam pocket in the engine, and have a serious situation. nipper -
NO Jap engines unless you know what your doing. Go to CCR or find a used engine to swap in. You have rod knock, I suspect its not piston slap, as rod knock may sound fine on a cold engine, then once it warms up it gets louder. Piston slap is the reverse. It is rebuildable, But much more easier to get a used engine and put it in, or a rebuilt engine from CCR. nipper

freezing issue!!!

YOu may have done some real damage. As it thaws out, check for puddles. There arent that many freeze out plugs. There was another post on here last year about the same thing, and he ruined the engine. Th radiator may not be in good shape either. Once the engine has thawed out, If you cant pressure check the cooling system, check the water and oil level. Make sure no water has gotten in the crancase. Next top off with water, and start the engine up and se how it behaves. Let it build up pressure. If all seems well and no leaks, removes the water and refill with coolant. You may get lucky. -
