2.5 dual cam
nipper replied to byronc10's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyou have fuel pressure, but do you have fuel injectors firing. There are three things that keep a sooby from running (sounds like a broken record) cam position sensor, crank sensor, and temp sensor. The crank sensor determines spark. Do you have spark at the plugs? i bet you dont. nipper

'99 Impreza 5spd w/severe torque bind
nipper replied to rcs914's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou actually sound like your in the begnining stages of torque bind. IMMEDIATLY check your tires and make sure they are properly inflated and they all match. You have a viscous coupling. The way it works is it has two sets of alternating plates inside it. These plates have holes in them and sheer the the fluid. As the fluid sheers it heats up and you get 50/50 awd. For some reason this is what is happening to you. This is why when the car is cold its not a problem. nipper

chatter on tight turns
nipper replied to Downbound's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXtorque bind on a 5 speed is bad news. All you can do is check tire sizes and inflation, but if you have gotten to the point where bind is showing up in a manual, it usually means the damage is done. The Viscous coupling is shot. Dmani hate delivering 800.00 bad news. Unlike the automtics, at some point the car wil become very tough to drive except for on route 80 in nebraska (road is dead straight). When you do get it done make sure all the tires match, otherwise youll just burn it out again. Sounds like the original problem was a bad wheel; bearing, but this is defanitly torque bind. nipper

PLEASE HELP... car won't start...:(
nipper replied to Mjez's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDo you have an LED test light? LED is important because some ignitors do reverse polarity (im not an electronics wiz so i dont know why)If you do remove the connnnector from the coil pack. Touch the test life to each of the outside terminals as somone cranks the car. If the light blinks, the ignitor is working. if the light is not flashing you have a bad ignitor, crankshaft sensor or an ecm issue. Rule out the other two first, since if you replace the ecm and it still doesnt start, its one of the other two. It sounds like the ignitor is getting a signal, but the ignitor is bad. Crank sensors usually work or they dont. If you can get an affordable ecu and want to try it go ahead. nipper

94 Subaru Legacy rear air shocks - good deal? used?
nipper replied to MitchJi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwhat do you mean by non functional? Do you mean the air system is totally dead, or that the shocks are dead and wont bounce at all. nipper

nipper replied to eastwestboy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXah i never knew thats what it was called. i just called it the abs signal generator aka thingy (since its not really a normally servicable part). It used to be so much fun when i got to the name the parts in my old job. nipper

ATF change
nipper replied to J A Blazer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXdont use pure synthetic, use some sort of hybrid. Synthetics lower friction. Automatics need friction to operate. a hybrid is a mix of both worlds. a cooler never hurt nipper

PLEASE HELP... car won't start...:(
nipper replied to Mjez's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthats what it does when you connect the diagnostic connector. you are supposed to dount the flashes of the cel. Get yourself a haynes manual so we can get a better idea on how that procedure works. Sounds like your ecu is doing just what its supposed to do. nipper

*Help* Clicking noise when turning corners
ive had them fail that way a few times, thats the "just park the car and call a tow truck" sensation (seized cv joints go poof). After that the axles are just purely decorative. nipper

XT6 air suspension issues
From what i can tell, nothing. Check the lines with soapy water and see if there is a gross leak someplace. Also check to see if air is getting to the struts. nipper

XT6 air suspension issues
dont go hunting down the computer. If it was computer it wouldnt run at all or it would run for ever. One of two things is happening. Either you have a massive air leak, or your comprssor is shot. Is your compressor putting out any air at all? is the suspension system reacitng at all? I would check the airlines between compressor , control unit, and tank to see if there are any leaks. Also check all the lines. nipper

*Help* Clicking noise when turning corners
Look underneath your car and inspect the boots. If the boots are torn plan on replacing the axles. If they arent torn you can probably got till fall (dont wait till winter, this is something you should do on your schedual and not the cars). If you start to feel the the click in the steering wheel or the brake pedal, your getting close to totaly failure and should replace them. nipper

brakes, backing plate, tone wheel
nipper replied to eastwestboy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwhats a tone wheel, thats new to me. Basically if your going to go through all that labor, you should replace the bearing. Its likes replacing a timing belt and not replacing the water pump. Murphies law will bite you in the but and the wheel bearing will go not long after doing all that work. Laos since your car is a 95, it really wouldnt be a bad idea to change them anyway, as ten years ona wheel bearing is a respectable life. nipper

ATF change
nipper replied to J A Blazer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthats what i was wondering. That was not a cheap thing from an engineering point of veiw to add to a perfectly fine transmission. Maybe they got nervous from the svx failures , who knows. There is still a screen. nipper

ATF change
nipper replied to J A Blazer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhich leads to the question, if it was not meant to be changed, why did they go through the expense and bother and making it an easily replaceable filter. i would change it once every 3 years. 40.00 is cheaper then 1500.00 dollars nipper

94 Subaru Legacy rear air shocks - good deal? used?
nipper replied to MitchJi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou wont find them on line or used because everyone replaces them with standard struts on all four corners. nipper

nipper replied to betzilla's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXsounds like the starter developed an internal short, rare but it happens. Its one of the few (if not the only) curcuit not protected by a fuse or fuseable link. nipper

PLEASE HELP... car won't start...:(
nipper replied to Mjez's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXsounds like you have a dead coil pack. Go to a scrapyard and get one or two and see if that fixes it. nipper

ATF change
nipper replied to J A Blazer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX1- filter screen is just that its just a screen, its not a filter. It jas very large holes that dont get pluged, Its just for material. 2- You remove the pan the wrong way you can make a leak and never get it right again 3- subaru says it needs no serviciing. Jou dont change the pickup screen in the oil pump, and that is exaclty what it is, the same thing. Torque bund you change the fluid. No where does it say change the screen, and i have never said that. TB is a rear clutchpack issue of gum buildup (90%) of the time.
