  1. One more thing to look at in the engine/tranny area.... look at all your mounts....If your out trashing it that hard, you may have torn a mount up....Would explain all your symtoms ... Also the way your shift linkage is set up, if you are in heavy clay type mud, and there is gravel mixed in with it, it is rear easy to pump the goo up in and around the linkage, and if there happens to be any fair sized rocks in there, they tend to jam linkage up...... I had to get up under my Hatch twice to dislodge rocks that had managed to get up in there and wedge into my linkage..... To check your CV Joints....... Get in a large parking lot, put it in 1st gear, turn hard one way and with your foot on the brake to give it resistance do a few hard turns, then turn the other direction and repeat the process.....If you have one bad that will tell you which one it is.... Have fun, John
  2. You know the pit crew Was cussing that one at the end of race day..... Looks Like My kinda Fun.....John
  3. Seahag... call me, I'll tell you how to fix the problem... If you can I will need you at the car.... John
  4. I second Russ.... but I say especially cause your down there in Goat Country....go for the EJ-22 swap..... I am getting ready to do a Swap in a Brat for one of your Fellow Medford Dudes next week.... I have a Donor Car with all the Goodies to do another swap if your interested....??? Call me if you want I can go over it with you.... Later, John in Eugene
  5. Here is What I know as of Today on front axles.... EA-81 Non turbo are 23 spline ( Auto and Stick) EA-82 Non turbo are 23 spine ( Auto and Stick ) EA-82 Turbo Anything are 25 spline EA-82 RX Turbo Duel Range is 25 spline XT-6 5-speed AWD is 25 spline EJ Auto 2WD and AWD are 25 spline EJ 5 speed AWD anything is 25 spline EJ-2WD 5-speed Un-Known to me , I haven't seen one yet So Miles If the axles you took from the Legacy are Too big going into an Impreza 2WD 5 speed, there is a good chance that becuase it is a First Gen Impreza, that it has left overs from a Loyale In the 2WD tranny.... Hope this enlightens a few John
  6. Noah...call me right now, I'll walk you through how to fix it or at least see if we can get to the bottom of the issue.... New cell # is 541-206-2494..... The others don't realize you are running the 5 speed Hi-Lo in the Wagon... Talk soon, John
  7. If a MEchanic Shop said Engine Locked up, then you most likely siezed the crank to the block or a connecting rod... You say it locked due to overheat and Lack of Oil....? These two combined Kill a Turbo engine in very short order.....and If you were hot dogging around with it while delivering Pizza's, when the Lock up happened, it only worsens the issue.... I say if you are remotely mechanical, and the Car is worth stuffing a fresh motor into, Find a Good Engine and Go to Town.... Good luck, John
  8. Here is one We did the 1800/Hi-Lo conversion to as well as 3" lift.... Try looking here Hope that put it in the post...? If not go look in the gallery here http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo13/Gen1WagonLifted3inches Later, John
  9. Actually There is a kit available.... I build One.....I have sold a few....it is a 3" kit similar to the Others I build , but slightly different in the rear due to the fact that the rear of your 79 is different from the newer Gen cars.... Call me if you like, Its the best way to contact me.... John in Oregon.... 541-206-2494
  10. Might also Check out http://www.Rallitek.com as well They sell quite a Bit of aftermarket stuff for Roo's Later, John
  11. Check out 33% lower low Range gear sets out of Australia... If your Forester is already Dual Range, I will put money on that kit working for you.....It is Made to fit the older 5 speed Hi-Lo boxes out of 85-90 cars, but I've been into a few AWD 5 speed boxes, and the front end Internals Look the same.... I can't remember the outfit down there Selling or producing them, But if you go to http://www.AUSubaru.com and inquire about it I am sure they can tell you if it works or not... Good Luck and Let us Know if it does Work... John.....
  12. Glenn.... The Rear Of your Buggy is So light you should Have very little issue if any with Torque Bind In corners....Even with your Little Fatty tires, it should Unload the inside tire pretty easy..... Also out there on most of that Slick rock there is always a Skiff of sand blowing around, And that will give you a bit too..... Take spare parts, if you use them up , turn around head for the trailer , and Re-group....Don't you have anything remotely like Moab closer to you to try that Buggy on first...?? Later, Your Bud in Oregon.....
  13. To do this Conversion you need an Adapter Kit That I build and Sell.....This Kit is In the process of being Patented So others Will not COPY it and Call it their Idea..... A Question for you ....? Is the Blue Wagon on your Site the one that Stuffed the front bumper in the big Pit at the Show Last Summer....??? I'd Think of Selling This Kit to you, But am Afraid it would end up the same way Your bought BYB kit did.....???? John
  14. Motor Will fit for sure....I stuffed the Ej-22 and AWD auto into the BEAST for the Rubicon trip..... I had 12" of lift, and Lots of space in the tunnel area, but if you are doing a 5 speed AWD no problem.... Or do the Ej-Engine and my adapter and Keep Hi-Lo range..... Your going to have to fabricate some tranny mounts Most likely, For engine mounts, Leave the EJ mounts on the Motor, and Slot the hole for mount in the belly pan outwards 3/4" on each side ....it will slide right in.... Have fun, John
  15. First ????? Does your 97 have the 2.5 Motor....? If so Buy the 2000 motor and Stuff it in...It will work fine....But as Ballitch said unbolt your 97 intake and Use it on the 00 Motor....Very simple swap....Get a book if you need, but if you are mechanical at all, you will see how simple the intake swap is.....Just go slow.... If you have the 2.2 motor , I'd stick with finding any Generation 2.2 instead...... Then there are no issues.... I've done similar swaps with Gen one 2.2 to Gen-2 and Gen-3 2.2 before with no issues....I believe there is a Width difference between 2.2's and 2.5's, so You can't bolt your 2.2 intake on the New 2.5 if you are running a 2.2.....?? Also Running a 97 2.2 Intake on a 95 1.8 Impreza Motor with no Issues...... in My personal Ride..... Good Luck, John
  16. Here is My Question , Being a Builder of Kits Myself....??? How are you coming to the conclusion that you are getting 13"s of Clearance....? Is this Front and Rear, or Front only, or Rear Only....? Also What Size tires and Rims do you have to be running to Achive this 13" goal....? I have been Building 3" kits locally since before I got into the computer scene....So before Brett, and P.K. but I've Moved onto bigger Better things as well..... I still will build the occasional 3" kit as well as 4" Kit as you are advertizing......I actually just started to Advertize the 4" Kit recently myself, But then found that P.K. was making them....So chatted with him directly, and Came to an agreement.....I give him First Dib's to sell them, If someone needs one sooner than He can Provide, then He will refer them to me....I have so much going on I don't mind Not doing that business, and sending it his Way..... Where are you Located....? International as a State is pretty Wide Open.....? I'm on my way to Check out your site now, Maybe I'll learn a bit more there....??? Later, John in Oregon.....
  17. You guys are thinking Backwards..... Why not take the Good Tranny out of the Loyale, and Stuff it in the Legacy.....No Wiring issues...... Only an adapter Kit needed to mate...... Or if the Loyale is Hi range only, Buy the Legacy cheap, and buy a Hi-Lo trans Cheap and Convert the Legacy that way..... Don't be afraid to play both ways..... Later, John
  18. Things to look at before doing anything physical.... Measure fender bolting locations in relation to one another....WRX to Legacy.....This alone will tell you how much you will be modding.... Also look at how WRX front Bumper mounts to the Body compared to the Leg....? Anything is possible....It all comes down to how bad you want it , and How much time/money you want to invest into it.... Have fun, John
  19. Rather than 4 tracks, We've been toying with the idea of 2 tracks Full car Length....This is For Off-Road Use only .... Pull the Subi Tranny, and Stick a Small hydralic Pump behind a Pumped up Subaru Engine or Little Diesel Engine.....Doing it this way you get skid steer like the Tracked vehicles do..... Then you get an Arctic-Roo.......Would love to do it to an Outback Wagon or something Newer....Find one with dead Drive train , and Go to town.... Later, John
  20. Hey thanks Ed, For letting me Run your Brat.....It runs Out real Well..... And It does Fling Mud Good Too..... Had a Blast as Usual.....Talked to Ken today, he said you ran pretty good in the afternoon....Wish I could Have stuck around, but I had to get back and Work some more.....Good to see such a USMB turn out there...... Can't wait to see the time results, I put the Brat down as Time only for Open Class, Not truck or Production GT, so we shall see how I did UN-Officially....... Talk soon, John
  21. Thanks Everyone..... Just another Notch on the ole Belt of time I guess..... And Actually I took the Day off.....It was My B-day after all.... Later, Me......
  22. Only thing BUILT that first Run Was my Exhaust......And the fact I was running a 3:90 trans instead of the factory 3:70 Motor was 100 % stock....... :-\ If you Lift your ride They won't let you run it at all..... If you cut the fenders to allow the Swampers, and No lift you could then run, but it will be a completely different car from running 13's..... Have fun, John
  23. Hey Congrat's Bud.....I had no Idea your Wedding was So close the Evening I borrowed Your Garage.......Thanks you Very Much for that by the Way.....By the Time I heard it was Happening, I couldn't get the free Time..... Sorry..... Also Tell your New Mrs.....Thanks For letting me Steal you To do that as well, And that I wasn't trying to be Rude or standoff-ish, but My entire Crew had been Sick with the Nasty bug, And I didn't want anyone else getting it......The evening I grabbed the Parts from behind your Place..... See you this Sunday if you are Rallying .....? I have to Come up And get a few Things From Qman..... Later, And Enjoy the New Hitched Life....
  24. If you happen to check this, Drive the coast south to Florence....you'll be fed up with the drive by then I guarentee.... Very Pretty, But very slow...Lots of Twisty Curvy going on....As well as every Tourist From South Cali To Victoria B.C.......Average speed is 35 or so..... If you cut back East At Florence on hwy 126 It brings You right into Eugene, and you are about 2 miles from My door and 10 mins to I-5 again.....From the Coast to Eugene is about a hr drive at Florence....... Let me know, If you decide this , as Moosens And I both would Love you if you were able to pack him back a set of Old Gen Alloy Rims I've been Selfishly holdig for him.... Talk soon, John
  25. There is a slight difference in length on Hydro Lifter Pushrods versus Non hydro lifter Rods..... Also If you have a Hydro block it has Hydro lifters in the bottom at the cam that those pushrods Work with.... If you happen to stick the Loger rods into a Shaved Non hydro Block you could bend Push rods or Valves Possibly.... You can use Non hydro Heads and Pushrods on a Hydro Block, But you need to keep the non- Hydro Components Together.... I had the opposite Problem on my last Built Motor from CCR I sent them a Hydro Block, and Kept all my Pushrods and Rockers here.....I got back a Non hydro Block accidently, with Non hydro Lifters...I put the thing together , and Had ZERO Compression ......???? Due to the fact that the Lifters/pushrods were keeping the valve train open I had to adjust My Rockers out a Bunch to get it to work.....And change Pushrods out For non hydro Ones...... Hope this Clears it a bit for you...... Later, John
