  1. Chris ..... Sounds Like you have the Early Gen Hatch or What we Fondly refer to here as THE HATCH..the 3 Door is a Newer Gen 86-90 kinda thing.....A Turbo Motor can be swpped in..... You have several Options though in Motor swap in Mods..... First would Be an EA-81 TURBO ...This is the same Generation Motor to what you have now, but with turbo .....With intake and Exhaust work this Motor rocks.....I built a 3" Lifted Wagon with one and Sold it To Noah in Montana....He is Loving it still..... To do this Mod you will Need a Donor Car for the Engine and Wiring harness....OR you will have to do some very custom wiring yourself....???? Second would be to swap in an EA-82 Turbo This has only been done once into your age of car that I know of, and ITs a big pain.....Wouldn't suggest it...... 3rd.....Is to swap in a EJ-18 or EJ-22 motor out of an Impreza or Legacy.....I've Personally done this To my Own Hatch as well as A wagon, and I am getting ready to do it 3 More times in the next few Months......this Swap will gain you MPFI.....a gai of 30-45 hp stock, IT's been done many times Now, and The Engines Fit the bay nicely........ If your interested, call me , I can give you more info on the phone.... 541-206-2494 Talk soon, John

    10 inch lift

Wobble Down the Road is Only in How you Build the thing.... We have several with 8-10-12 inch Lifts that Don't wobble .... 3 are daily drivers..... 84GL....get in touch with me Through phone And I'll give you some pointers..... Later, John
  3. Ok Here is the Low down on Doing the Duel Range swap into your Legacy Sedan..... You will need a Hi-Lo 5 speed out of an 85-90 Non-Turbo GL Wagon....Converted to Turbo axle stubs in the final drive to Mate to your factory Legacy Axles.....This Gives you 3:90 gearing with the right stubs..... My Adapter Plate Which Comes with a Custom Done Flywheel, Meaning you Lose the stage 2 .... You will Lose AWD ability, meaning you become front Wheel drive and Locked in 4WD.... Now hear is the part you didn't hear So well in Burn Out mode that nite in the Garage..... I can Have one of these Hi-Lo trannies Gone through And have the Turbo stubs added into it as well as a Phantom Grip LSD..... This will give you 2 tires spinning in Front wheel drive Mode and 3 in 4WD mode in slimy/slippery conditions..... Add an LSD in the rear Diff, and in snow, ice , or Mud you can potentially have all 4 Locked up and Working for you.... To do this Trans Overhaul your Looking at about 750.00 But it will be Fresh, and Have LSD ,And as a package Deal with the Adapter Kit, I'd Do it for 1000.00 You'll Be the First......or Maybe second if I get the Local Forester Done first... Let me know......John P.S. I got your Package thanks.... And My newest Cell # is in My sig here at the bottom......
  4. Ok I spoke With Pat ( P.K. Davis/Ozified BYB kits) tonite.... Here is what We worked out...... He is Doing a Limited amount of 4/4 or actually 4/3 EA-82 kits at this time ...I say limited cause he is Building/Selling them at below Build Cost to him, so he isn't making any $$ on them ...... I told Him I wouldn't Build any unless he Gave me the Ok first.....So he Gave me the Ok..... I am going to figure out Cost for Materials, Hardware, Anadization, and My Fab time and them I will post a Cost here to this thread...... pwoens.....I sent you back a Pm...... I told P.K to add something to this thread when He gets the chance.....And to all of you waiting on kits right now from him....Be patient, HE is Busy like me, and I know He just did up A bunch to ship Out ....... Later, John
  5. Yes I'll try to call him tonite..... I was thinking He wasn't doing them at all .....Tis why I built one For Matt's wagon I just did this Weekend.....I'll get to the Bottom of it all.... I'l let everyone know the Status of it all after I chat with Pat..... Later, John
  6. Hey thanks for bringing that to my attention...... I guess I won't put it out there on the open market...... It will just be for those few who come have me install one in their Ride.... Sorry Pat......
  7. Hello all I need To figure out pricing for Finished Kit ready to install, But we just did a 4/4 Kit in an EA-82 Wagon over the Weekend......Came out Looking very Good..... He will post pics here on the Board Once he gets Pics off the Digi-Cam...... I know P.K. does a 3/3 for these cars, and I'm not going to Compete with him for anyone wishing that kit..... So anyhow Stay tuned Here for those of you wishing a Bit more.... Talk soon, John
  8. Nothing Silly about good questions...... I can build A Kit for your Legacy.....When you get settled, Let me know or Call me as it is Best, I am always on the go..... There are 2 options for you to do ..... Talk soon, John Noah, Call me......# is in my Sig......
  9. I e-mailed you...... I have a Nice 91..... Pretty much the same car.....????
  10. I'm In..... I'll Have the Beast Driving by then.......It runs and Moves under it's own power now, Just have to button up a few Loose ends under the hood, and The interior...... Look forward to Doing a real 4x4 trip with you all for a change........ John
  11. Morning Skip..... RE: #2 .....I remember reading somewhere in one of the Aussie Sites that there was a Shop down there making something similar.....It was a Plug and Play Toggle switch Kit that allowed 2WD front Mode, 2WD Rear Mode only , and 50/50 Front to rear I Remember this cause I wanted to buy into it to use it to run my Tranny for the Rubicon run......I called the Outfit and Inquired, But the Guy was very Duh-Huh about it.....????? He did however tell me he thought it was all done by turning Solinoids on or off....???? I can tell you that In 50/50 mode, you still don't get a true 50% to the rear.....When I set My trans up to run this way, and Was running just the rear drive line and No front Axles, the thing wouldn't climb over a 6" curb on its own... I had to go inside and Play with the Valve Body for the rear clutch pack to get it to do 50/100 % to the rear........ Then it Climbed..... Have fun.....Let us know how things progress, Hope this gave you some food for thought...... John
  12. No real Pics Yet.....But here is a Quick and Dirty explanation.... With a Nissan T-case......You need to have a Min of 6-10 Inches of Lift.....at 6 you will be cutting the floor up to keep the T-case up tight in the tunnel......I have done 2 10" lifts, and They seem to be the Perfect Lift spec..... Assuming you Lift your ride 10" using Blocks, you will want to tie the front Blocks into the rear Blocks.....All the Factory Drive train has to have new Mounts built, to keep it high and Tight in Factory locations.....Doing this then Allows you to mount a T-case in line Directly behind the Transmission.....You will have to figure specific location based on Wheel base of car, and Driveline angles Needed.....Rear Diff stays Put, and You will use another in the front mounted/Fabbed into the Factory Belly Pan..... There is alot of Fab work Involved, So have torch and Welder At the ready......Hope this Kinda drew the picture for you...... Have fun, John
  13. RTV is NOT a BAD idea...... I put it on every Subaru Oil pan I re-seal.....If you prep the Oil Pan and Engine.....Then Put a Light skin of RVT on both sides of the New Gasket , you Will never get a Leaking gasket ......If you do, then you have a Severely Warped Pan, that should be noticeable when pulled off doing clean-up duty on it..... I've re-sealed More EA-82 motors than I care to count.....Some of these have over 150,000 and Still no leaking from Pan gasket......Or most of the rest of the Motor for that matter........ Take care, John......
  14. Slightly Off-Topic, But ..... I have a Guy who is getting ready to Buy a Lift For a 01 Forester, and Possibly A Winch Bumper for It as Well..... He is in PA. and Was wondering if there were any other Sick and Twisted Subaru Lovers in the State crazy enough to Mod their Subie...... Is it Possible to Get a Head Count of you Guys in PA. So I can Forward it to him...... Also do you guys up that way have any sort of Club or regular Gathering.....??? Thanks, John Wishing Hard That The White Fluffy Stuff will grace us before Winter is Over.......
  15. Cool.......EA-81 Will let you have Fun...Its a good Choice too Later, John
  16. As Skip stated The Coolant Temp Sensor is Sitting directly on top of the Return Inlet tube for the Radiator.....If you follow the Passenger side Rad. Hose to the engine, it Will bolt to this Housing.....The Coolant Temp Sensor will have a Plug with a Wire keeper holding it in place......This Sensor is 99% chance Bad.....Replace it , and You should Fire right up properly..... If you don't, Check ECM again for codes.....?? If you continue to have Issues, Call me.....I'll talk you through some things......# is in my Sig..... John
  17. I Vote Richie's Coupe then..... Get it Cheap, Re-build the Engine Using a Carb Block under the Turbo Heads......Use an EA-82 Turbo To be sure you get water and oil Cooling , Stuff a 4 speed Hi-Lo in it , Custom Exhaust, Stock Boost, and You've got one Mean little Sleeper........ It Will Rally Very well, as well as Being very reliable......And it's pretty Light to start with...... I still Volunteer Myself For Co-Pilot....
  18. Hey Ryan.... Having driven Both a EA-81T Wagon with 5 speed swap, and An RX Sedan with Carbed Block and 5 speed Swap, I'd have to Vote RX Sedan.....I have one First Place Open Class plaquard Under My personal Car's Belt....In Rally Cross.... It has a Fairly light chassis, AS well as a Bad A** Power Plant.....The Engine Bolted up to a 5 speed 3:90 Hi-Lo is Like a Rocket on Wheels...... If you want True Old School , I'd say Do an EA-81T with 5speed Hi-Lo.....I've built 2 of these for off-Road USe and They do very well.....even with larger than Stock tires..... Keep it low to the ground with Factory sized rubber, and It will be a good screamer as well...... If you wanna Talk Shop call me , the # is in My Sig...... P.S. I volunteer Myself as Co-Driver...... John in Eugene.......
  19. What are you using for Engine again....???? If it were me, Here is What I would Do in a Gen One car..... Go with an EJ-18 Engine, 5 speed Hi-Lo trans, Nissan T-case Down to Nissan R-180 front with 4:37/67 gears and LSD and Nissan Rear to Match.... You'll end up about 10" taller You can run up to a 33 inch tire on this configuration No problem, Get somewhere between 20-28 mpg on the Hwy, and you will have a Very capable Trail Rig....... I'll know very soon just how much Frame horn trimming is Needed to Stuff a 2.2 motor into a Gen One..... If you can Fab, Stick one of these in...It will be that much Better....... If you can't do all the Fab work, I know a Guy thats Done a Few..... and Getting ready to build 2 More...... Have Fun, John
  20. Hey Don't knock it till you try it Mr...Bunny Lover...... I got pretty good at quick drawing my 12ga. out on Grouse and Quail that popped out to the roads while Deer Hunting....... I never went home from a day of Hunting empty handed..... Now you made me wanna go kill something......Grouse over a fire sounds real good.... Later, John the Mighty Bird Slayer....... ( I can hear all the Veggie Eaters/animal lovers Cringing....)
  21. On your Knock.... Look at the rear Lower control arm mounting point.....It will be the back bolt on the lower arm attached to the body with 2 bolts in a Mount......Seems very random, but you never know.....It sucks to get taken anywhere... Locally it is the other way around Most of the time..... The Indie Shops are flakes and Try to cut corners, where as the dealer is pretty good....... Hope you get to the bottom of it all, John
  22. If you like the styly of rack you see in the pics of the wagon, I can replicate a set for you....? I built a set for a wagon I hunted out of last year....worked out great..... Let me know, John.....
  23. I put a Carbed Block under My RX Turbo heads..... I ran 3 Rally Cross Races on it as well as Many Hwy miles.....No issues.....Only thing I had go wrong was a Tensioner Pully siezed on the driver side due to old age, and Melted the T-belt.... Run stock bost pressure anything more is Going to kill the life on the Engine greatly..... You'll find you don't need more than stock boost though.... I was able to pull 1-3 gears in 4WD sideways...... on Pavement.... I just Sold that car, and Will be building another like it this Spring if I get time..... Later, John
  24. If My memory serves me correctly....( it's been a Year plus since I saw It....) What he did was Took a CV cup, and Welded a Pully to it, then up where spare should have been he set up a York compressor with a pully as well....What he did for clutch to run it was just a idler pully that cammed over a fucrum point to tension up the belt enough to run the compressor..... Put it on the passenger side as it is normally your driver/power side in the trans.....In 2WD mode you can run any gear...... You will have to play with different pully set ups, as his worked, but not as well as it could or should have..... We thought up the Idea before the Rubicon trip while we were sticking the BEAST together......I wanted to do it as well, but didn't have the time...... Have fun, John
  25. First off.....If your mechanically inclined enough to do the job, PULL THE ENGINE...... Then Pull the oil Pan and replace that gasket.....You'll cuss the entire time if you try to do it in the car.....Trust me I 've done it .....ONCE....... Next , as Much as I hate to say it....if your Mechanic was in deep enough to replace cam seals and Hopefully o-rings, he should have replaced the front main seal behind the crank pully and Sprockets.....Question for you....Do you happen to have a line of grunge/oil across the front of your hood line in line with your v-belts.....??? If so , thats a Sign the crank seal is the issue.....but it won't always sling there lots of times it just runs out the bottom..... If it were me Doing the job, I'd Pull the Motor, Do the front seal, Do the pan gasket.....Do the rear main seal, as well And if you had the time to get it all done, I'd just do a Complete re-seal.....Head gaskets and All......Rather than hit and Miss, trying to do the minimum......Another thing to verify....If you have oil hitting the timing Belts REPLACE them.......Oil and Rubber don't mix......The oil will sogg the t-belt and They will be aged Prematurely........Not the thing you want going bad on a Road trip..... Hope this Helps you in your Quest....... Later, John
