Engine Swap? (STi Motor into Legacy??)
ballitch replied to RedLegacyGT's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
unless you wanted to get RA gear sets for your tranny, you would demolish your trans, and your rear diff. It can be swapped in but it is very wise to use the sti trans and rear diff, as well as the WHOLE driveline, and the wiring would have to be done and so on and so forth. ~Josh~ -
i believe the LSD only activates when one wheel slips more than normal, going around a corner shouldnt affect the "feeling" of the car, at least i wouldnt think so. ~Josh~

both front and rear sway bars........oh my......whatever shall i do.......

Which motor?
ballitch replied to COB's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
id go with the outback XT, 2.5 liter, a little better mpg than the H6 and a little less than the N/A 2.5 liter, but with 100 horsepower per liter, how can you argue against it. yes the outback is taller which will help with camping and snow travels, i think the OB has a stiffer suspension also, not sure on that though. if you drive the XT like a grandma and dont use the turbo that much i dont see why you wouldnt get a little less mpg than the N/A version. ~Josh~ -
AARGG!! More troubles on the 92 Loyale.

that sounds weird, did it make any noises before it quit running? ~Josh~ -
What is a good RPM to launch my car at?

bad clutch dumps ......bad. ~Josh~ -
so this is a complete suspension bushing thing, or are body bushings there too? ~Josh~

ya aluminum is crap compared to brass. ~Josh~

but can you swap the awd drivetrain out of a 98 legacy sedan and through it into a 95 legacy sedan, the 95 has no awd drivetrain. ill have to swap the tcu, maybe the ecu, and all the wires that go from tcu--->ecu right, and of course the rear end driveline, and all that stuff.......or would it be easier to through the drivetrain out of a 90 legacy wagon with 5MT Fulltime 4wd into the 95 legacy with no awd. out ona limb i know. ~Josh~

should have said that.................i knew that..........

i know ima ground the crap out of the 86 gl when the darn engine runs. the easier path for electricity to move in a circuit the better the transfer of power. easy way to make your car rev faster and have better throttle response, some internet site sold grounding wire kits for the new gen cars, wonder how well they work.........(start daydream here).....................
-
if your going from 2wd to AWD tranny you'll need the tcu and all wires, and maybe the ecu also, i have no evidence to back that up tho, they will both bolt up however, as you said different rear diffs and maybe have to swap out the whole driveline, and maybe, just maybe, you might have to lengthen or shorten it, dont know about wheelbases for those cars being the same and all. thats all i can tell ya man. ~Josh~

and boost isnt made until like 2500-3000 rpms anyway so your not really using the turbo much. ~Josh~

the ej flywheel holes are farther outward from the center of the flywheel than the ea series flywheel holes, by about 3/8 of an inch or something like that. ~Josh~

ej22 with no ecu conversion
ballitch replied to torxxx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i think it would be easier ot get a 90 degree piece of aluminum made to attach onto the ej intake manifold and get a carb that willl be able to run a 2.2 liter motor, ditch the injectors, rails, and all that stuff, weld over the holes and tune that thing, as long as you grab a coil and start at TDC on cylinder 1, and follow instruction on how to start up a carb'd EA82 and have at it. find a disty thta will run off of i dont know what but have a good time. just substitute the engine code EA82 with EJ22 in the haynes manual and git-r-dun!!!!!!! BTW wtf is wrong with you, carbs are past history, and they suck a$$, you'd get much more power and better gas mileage and drivability, sorry had to express my true feelings. hope that helps. ~Josh~ -
86 EA82 overheated bad
ballitch replied to larry bruggeman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if the timing covers are melted, think of what went on inside the motor to cause that much heat outside the motor, do what was already said and it might be ok, but dont get your hopes up. if it is toast then try to find a rebuild kit with all the gaskets and stuff, salvage what you can, and find a replacement motor if need be. ~Josh~ -
i dont know of any adapter, but i dont know anything so.................... ~Josh~

try doing air and fuel filters, plugs and plug wires, injector cleaner, tank of premium, new brake fluid, new trans. fluid, new oil and filter, a good one dont cheap out on this one, like wix or something. just a basic tune-up, look at your brake pads and all that stuff as well, you'll spend like $100 for all that but it will be stuff you dont have to worry about for a while. sounds like a lot but you bought the car, might as well take out a piece-of-mind-insurance plan of $100 out on the car. ~Josh~

i say that both of those are sure bets on reliability and drivability, go for the XT if you can........dont think so cause they came out in 04'. most of the cars that subaru sells in america are outback wagons, lots of them out there. with the 2.5 liter you can get many many upgrades for the engine and suspension, tires etc. 23,000 on a 2 year old car is nothing, hell the motor isnt even broken in yet on a subie at that mileage, you never told us how much your willing to spend on this new subaru, if anything goes wrong with that car, you know where to ask first. not the dealer, theres a hint. ~Josh~

in america the motor you are speaking of is known as the EJ20G, the wrx motor, 2.0 liter DOHC aluminum block and head horizontally oppossed boxer engine. det i believe is a term for nissan motors i dont know, is that a JDM motor you got a qoute for? if it is then get motor, ecu, and the ENTIRE car harness, trust me on this one, if you are a blessed man then god will send you a wrecked car that also had a stick shift in it, if you're blessed. i think you would have to do some searching on nasioc forums. i think your odds of finding more usefull info is greater over there. ~Josh~
