okay that didnt work so heres another one.....http://http://community.webshots.com/album/134929361hUEpcw

you have to grab the whole wiring harness from the car as well as the engine harness if its not on the engine, try to get it before he closes his yard, yes the engine will fit but it will be very tight between the frame rails. you will need the adapter plat that mudrat79 sells or you will have to make your own, there is a good amount of info out there in dicussion already (look a couple threads down) its not to hard to do the mechanical part of the conversion if you take your time and know how things are supposed to go together, and of course your best bet is to do a search for ej22 swap and you will have lots of reading material for info. http://community.webshots.com/album/134929361hUEpcw/1 try this hope i did it right. ~Josh~

you will probably have the best luck in finding a donor car in a junkyard and removing the wire harnes, yes the whole thing, engine harness included, if available. ~Josh~

new batch of EJ swap ?s (electrical etc)
ballitch replied to baccaruda's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
you can make the adapter plate 1/2 inch thick and have no starter problems, i made mine from 1/2 inch aluminum, you could also use steel but steel might flex if you use acetylene torch, and jigsaw is WAY TO DARN SLOW!!!! ~Josh~ -
you will be more than satisfied with that swap, will he need different axles? and perhaps a differnt driveline? are the EA81 and EA82 trannys the same length? ~Josh~

please never use fram oil filters again! (pics)
ballitch replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have never used a fram filter unless im putting atf fluid in my oil to breakdown deposits, were oil filter quality isnt a priority. I have only used OEM subaru filters, and wix filters, I switched to wix just after learning that Casite and Hastings were bought out by champion, both casite and hastings use fiber type element material, instead of paper, it filters way better thatn paper, but wix is cheaper and thats what my dad has been using on all his big rig trucks for like 25 years, not to mention my girlfriends stepdad races a corvette and always changes his oil with castrol syntec 5w-50 and wix filters. ~Josh~ -
you will need the ecu, main harness and entire wiring harness, and of course the engine, for the car, and a FSM (factory service manual) or a couple of chiltons and haynes manuals, one for each car. is your car automatic? you will also need the ej20 engine crossmember for the exhaust clearance, unless you want to chop yours up and "augment" it, crossmember needs to be from same type car, i.e. impreza, legacy, etc. and i think you might need the ej20 axles just for safety sake, stock axles arent ment to handle 230 hp compared to 110 or 140. and besides that, i know we always say this, do a search, cuz us people cant remember all the details you know. ~Josh~
-
look in your chiltons or haynes manual, it will tell you in the location of the tachometer pin-out on the ecu, tap into it and run it to your gauges, they are compatible just like the temp. gauge, and oil pressure sender unit, if you want oil pressure. in ej block underneath the alternator, there is an idiot oil sender for low oil pressure, remove it and the sheath-like thing that also screws into the block, use some sort of curing thread sealer to make sure you get a good seal or you will have an oil leak and loss in oil pressure, make a "Y" out of electrical wire and splices so you can send the idiot light signal to the ecu, and one for your gauge cluster. ~Josh~

Spliting Cylinder Block?
ballitch replied to Gravityman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
as previously stated, check like 5 times for bolts, doesnt matter if you think oyu got them all, there is always one last bolt that you miss, i missed 2 when i tried and fought like hell to get my EA82 block apart, granted yours is ER27 so i would imagine aobut 3-5 more bolts holding it together. ~Josh~ -

thats weird.....hmmm.... http://community.webshots.com/album/134929361hUEpcw try this. ~Josh~ -
hmmm..... a semi-massproducable wiring harness available for those that could fork over the dough and convert their crappy 80-95 hp subie into a 140 hp monster.........doesnt that sound good to you .......yes it is a good time to be a subafreak. ~Josh~

There is still a bunch of DIY work for that swap, I will be done with my swap in probably a month from now so i will get started on a write-up in conjunction with Austin, John, and Noah. Lucky Noah has a converted car to look at for reference material. ~Josh~

that is what im trying to do as well, but i didnt have fuel injection to begin with, you should just need the wires that go from ecu--->engine.....that means the whole wire harness from the car. you will end up cutting out aobut 90% of the wires, make sure to double check everything before you cut. i cant figure out how to add links so try this site from a guy in australia...http://community.webshots.com/album/134929361huepcw/1 i got lots of help from this site. -
beat me to it morgan.

Accident at Colorado Meet 1/22/04
ballitch replied to ShawnW's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
da-zam dude, it doesnt look bad but it always looks toned down from a camera lense. this is the perfect opportunity for me to say that thank god you drive a subaru, built in roll cages are the S**T!! ~Josh~ -
When is this WCSS7 or 8 thingy anyway, ill be done with my ej22 conv. soon(been saying that for like a month), god wiring sucks. gonna have to grab myself a 4/4 lift for my baby after i utterly destroy the tires on the wagon. i hope to burn all the way through 2nd or 3rd gear.......mmmmmmm.....rubber.... ~Josh~

well over there the EJ serires D/R trannys are probably like a dime a dozen, so, maybe like $200 for the tranny and like 300 for shipping, sounds like an outrageous amount but its pretty close i bet. but it would be better to do a usmb group buy kinda thing, were 10 or 15 people with cash in hand go in to get 10 or 15 trannys. realistically its cheaper, but harder to find your same tranny here in the U.S. Or spend about the same amount and get yourself the adapter kit. ~Josh~
-
you can always make your own adapter plate like i did. and drill out your old-gen flywheel, that way you dont have to shorten/lengthen your driveline. yes the kit is expensive but it comes with everything that you need, and the kit is tried and true. to make your own kit will cost less but you will have to get your grubbies on a decently stocked shop with all the right tools. ~Josh~

i think due to the ultra detailed engineering inherent in all japaneese-made cars, we would eventually come to this question, the bottom line is, if you do your warranty services and participate in extra-dealership activities, like thses forums, you will see that many car makers make cars to last to 300k miles, it all boils down to what options you want with your car. honda= good gas mileage, good amount of horsepower, but lots of people have them, fwd unless you get the watever it is called "suv" of theirs. toyota= good gas mileage, runs forever, good line up of 4wd and fwd cars and trucks. with subaru, every car from 1996 till now has factory AWD, some with factory turbo, most without, decent horsepower, but less than honda or other car makers, but with horsepower and torque being around the same ballpark( honda has 170 horse motors with only 130 ft. lbs. of torque) lots of options for all cars, but subaru has a certain undeserved stigma of the .......well you know what im talking about. if you want to get stuck in your driveway buy a honda, if you ant to last forever, buy toyota, if you want a little bit of both, buy subaru. only without the getting stuck part. ~Josh~
