RX broke down-strange things, suggestions?
MudisFun replied to tizzle's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you were using ngks check to see if the smash gasket is smashed like it should be. I have heard of the same thing when a guy did his plug on a yoda 22re, got them tight but didn't tork through the gasket, sort just wobbled out. Next time you are goofing off in Bellingham give me a call and come check out the brat and wagon tizzle -
It happens to everyone :-p

I dunno what to do with my 93 Loyale!!!!!
MudisFun replied to Tyler's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Have someone test your charging system for you. Any Schucks, Jiffy Lube, or battery shop should have a midtronics tester. Call someone up and ask if they have the tester or any in-vehicle tester. It's no good unless the alternator is hooked up. Also make sure that the connector is good. If not the fuse link it does sound like a slipping belt or most likely a bad voltage regulator inside the alternator. -
Spinners, Yuk!!! But you own a lifted muddy as hell cj7, get drunk and weld your own dumb hub caps with a spinning disks that only last a week cause you were drunk when you made them. The redneck in me has to say that's cool, but other wise, yuk!!!

Stock oem pcv valves will allow the correct amount of air pressure to blow by without oil passing as well. Buying one at Schucks, where I work now, or any part for that matter should only be done for a temp fix until the part you ordered from www.thepartsbin.com or the dealer comes in. The problem with fram is that the spring will be gauged for many vehicles, not a your subaru! Talk to any GM mechanic and you'll get a really really long speech on the matter.

For as much damage that the brat has taken from my brother learning how to drive a subaru, the 'love' is double. Got the engine to hum, I mean HUMMMMM..., a better steering rack, fixed the leaks, royal purple in the gear boxes, building new thick bumpers and brush guards. He just started the re-wire job, damn I wouldn't even want to do that! He's taking care of the thing, so come on. If guys think that building-up an offroad brat is a waste, well then maybe you should buy a two wheel drive honda and leave the Brats and Wagons to the big boys! You know I'm just playin' but come on, the project has just begun. Let him find out what these Subbies are made off. Trust me, he's learning the joy of bondo and axle jobs.

West Coast Subaru Show 7 Thread (real deal)
MudisFun replied to ezapar's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Hell Yah! Anyone from Alaska gets a free meal and shower once they reach Bellingham. Alaska Highway or No Way! -
I think it was just a bad reman, and I landed the wagon right on to a stump.
-
It wasn't even a week old! The outer joint input shaft must have been without a clip cause the damn thing just popped out. Drove the wagon home rear wheel pressed out the rest of the axle and got a new one, free. I like lifetime warranties, but it sucks when you need to use them!

While gathering tools and parts for a gravel and mud run at north fork the wagon died on the freeway between the Sunset and State Street exit in b'ham. If I was alone it would have been all good but my girl was riding along, I told that we were going out for lunch but what I ment was 'going out to get tools and another set of hands would help'; yah she wasn't happy! Spent ten minutes just trying to find the problem, no fuel. Hot wired the fuel pump and found that it would only spit something out when the current is pulsed off an on? Next thing I hear is "Jeremy, there's a fire!!!" The pump control unit smoked. Fixed the fuses and did some quick subaruvention. After she stopped her nonsense about how "she'll never ride in this stupid car again" gave her two wires, one from the positive post and on to the fuel pump. Just tapping the wires together really quickly got the wagon to coast to a parts store. Went in and got to flasher/breakers, hooked them up in as two feed circuits and drove home. If nothing else at least Subaru's teach us how to be top-shelf hobby mechanics.

Grr, again, how to get intake bolt out?
MudisFun replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Pbblaster should do the trick, just keep on it and try to tighten and then loosen back and fourth. I know it sucks snaping the bolt then drilling it out might be the way out. -
Just put down some money to pick up a 79 Brat! Pick it up on payday, going to be my brothers first subbie! He can't wait, I can't wait, it's so cool! I will have so many question about the 1.6...

So I'm registered, but when will we be able to pay for my camping spot? It would be great to know that nobody will be getting pissed when I pull up and pitch a tent. So let me know how to make it as easy as possible for everyone. I will have no problem parking on a street and sleeping in the wagon, hell it wouldn't be the first time! But I'm getting old and needing, so a tent would rock. -
Got me an XT today!!!!! :)
MudisFun replied to subeman90's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I want an XT -
Yep, got a set of heads from a 83 GL rubber seals on both intake and exhaust. Heads from a 84 DL with seals only on the intake, the engine kit for the EA81's from Japan only came with four. How's it going Beegeer?

If your ever in Bellingham, stop by and we'll geek-out. That stands for anyone in the county!! 733-8583 Jeremy

MudisFun replied to mtsmiths's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I would drive that on a track, 5.5 HP yah! -
Anything you guys wouldn't mind sharing, send to me! Might as well start this damn thing. I will have two weeks off from school right after the July meet, and would gladly donate my time to make a video and since most of the vids and pics would not be mine, the cost of the dvd's would be the cost to everyone. You can mail in vhs or cds and just email stuff. The more the better!!! JeremyWeaver@Softhome.net I'm down to do the work if you guys are willing to RECORD your fun.

Help......rebuilt carb out of idle
MudisFun replied to sparkster58's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If the the hoses are good, and the engine is prime, then check the carb base gasket and see if you are low on coolant. The most likely cause of a bad gas smell is a bad plug or just having no compression in one clyinder, if not a gas line itself. -
MudisFun 2320 I St Apt#4 Bellingham, Wa Hell Ya!!! Someday when I get a few days off work, I think it would be killer to edit up a wide ranging (coast to coast) usmb video with still shots as well. I have be trying to get the stuff I want from the gallery but it's so jamed that it would be easyer for donors to sent me stuff then to ask everyone if I could use their vid or pic. Damn now I'm inspired! Jibs, you have to sent me a copy so I might really really want to give my part for everyone as well.

Help......rebuilt carb out of idle
MudisFun replied to sparkster58's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Happy B-Day Spark!!! How well is the fuel spraying from the main jet? Might be a delivery problem but if it backfiring badly then go at the egr system, are a four cylinders doing their thing? There is that stupid exhaust valve on the rear of the intake, make sure that the 2'' long and feed hoses are tights, that could cause these problems, also check out the two vac feeds to the exhaust manifold, those can allow air to draw right into the pipe and cause a bad vibration. Good luck, more info would help. -
Isn't the first time, won't be the last!
MudisFun replied to MudisFun's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh yah, the car runs good enough. I just did a swap at school and haven't gotten around to take the parts and tools out. -
Got home from tech school and played the messages on the machine... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=5700 Gave my landlord a call, explained the there was an engine hooked up to the tranny as well, but he didn't think it was funny when I told him I was trying to build a subaru inside the wagon. I get a call from him everytime he drives by and sees that another soob has moved-in anywhere along the block. I'll deal with the phone calls as long as he does not peak through the shades and finds out that the kitchen has become a auto shop, oranges and cam shafts. I can't wait to get a shed, pitch a tent next to it and call the thing home, right?

Poll : Fix it or junk it?
MudisFun replied to MudisFun's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I will keep that in mind! How much you want for them?
