I think they had single range trannys at first, but I have haerd that there was no hi range, just low range in the first ones.

Looks good, and looks like it will be a hell of a crawler! You use Toyota 8" axles, or samari axles under it?

I almost painted my Loyale camo, but then becided I should wail utill I scrape up more of whats left of the paint thats already on it. Maybe I will when I replace the rusty front fenders.

My 86 was also the same way. No steps and no seats.

The Unibody is PERFECT!
mudduck replied to Seahag1978's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I had an 86 I bought from the original owners. Tehy said jumpsaets weren't offered in 86. My old subie guy in colorado also said they didn't do jumpseats in 86, so I think 85 was the last year for them. -
I don't think he knew what he was talking about.

I got 213,000 on my 91 Loyale. Time to update my sig.

Isn't the first time, won't be the last!

If it runs and drives, then he can't say anything about you hving an engine in the back of the car. -
What do you mean check if they are leaking? I pulled a tire off and got a good look at them tonight, and it just looked to me that there is just the shock inside of the front spring. Also, you got any tricks to get the bottom of the strut out of the bearing housing. I remember when I did wheel bearings it was a S.O.B. to pop it out of there. I looked around on the board a little bit, but I didn't seem to find much on changing out the front struts, so any helpful hints will be greatly apreciated. Thanks

My frnt tires are wearing really funky. Just in patches along the tread, which makes me think its time for new front struts. Oh, and the car is really bouncy in the front end also. How hard or tricky is it to replace the struts? Oh yeah, the car is a 91 Loyale wagon, 4wd.

I love toy trucks. have had a couple, they wheel great, just bolt on some 31's and your ready to go. 22r is bulit proof, as are the 4 cyl t-cases. Why can't I find a deal like that on one around here? Another toy would look good next to my Subie.

$600 for that truck? Man, thats a steal!! Is it in good running order? The body looks good. What does it got under the hood? 22re?

How to remove the studs on my brat?
mudduck replied to Flowmastered87GL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Why do you need to pop the studs out? Is it illeagle to run with studs in the summer time there? -
I prefer the older radio's myself. If it is a cobra, see where it was made. The ones made in the phillipinnes(i think i spelled that right) are some of the most desirable to have. I would just get some new coax and antenna and see if the radio is working good. Also, in your buggy, it might not be a bad idea to mount it somwhere where it would be protected from the elements.(Radios don't like water inside of them too much )

Sounds like a bad cv. Does it clunk when tuning nd/or accelerating? it could be a wheel bearing also

What could be a better tow vehicle than a brat?
mudduck replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the newer autos that are behind disels are better, but could use some mods to make them better, especially on hevily modified disel engins. Its a cool pic, though I don't think that the rear end would ever survive a load like that. -
Firesticks are fairly good antennas, and aren,t priced extreamly high either. They can be a little tricky to tune the swr somtimes, but they are good antennas.

Your fm anteanna won't work for your CB. Your SWRs will be way to high, and a few other factors also won't let it work well at all. If you want a good mag mount that won't get knocked down easily, try a wilson 1000 or 5000. I have run a Wilson 1000 on my subie and my old 4x4 pick up, and have never knocked it off the roof from branches, or anything else it would smack into.

When the conditions are right, you can talk all over the place. I have talked to Oragon and Cali from out here in NC quite a few times. The 19+ is actually a pretty good radio. The thing to remember is to not go with a crappy antenna. Your antennea is the most important part of your radio.

I would go with a 5000lb. winch. Its better to have too much winch then too little, especially if your burried up to the door handles in some serious mud or snow.

I was haveing trouble deciding where to post this, so I though the off road section would be the best, since alot of people use CBs for communication on the trail, and in my opinion, its not a bad tool to have when venturing off road. If anyone needs any tips, has any questions or any of that good stuff about a CB instalation in you subie, let me know, I should be able to answer questions about annteneas, radios, setting SWRs, instalations, "fire in the wire" ect ect ect.

Size of rear shocks for EA81 GL wagon.
mudduck replied to A DOG's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I am not sure what size your rear shocks are, but unless you are in need of new shocks right away, I would hold off on getting new ones until you lift the car because I think you are going to need longer shocks with the lift installed.
