Posible engine swap 2.5dohc with 2.5 sohc.
offroadsubaruguy replied to mypar1's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
as far as i am aware, the ecu wont be any different for the dohc/ sohc motors, but i could be wrong.... i have heard of dohc heads on an ej22t before, so i dont know...... why are you want to change the block anyway? -
the only problem with those tires is that they cost way too much and dont last very long...... im running kumho venture mt's... you can get em on tire rack for around $70/ tire, and they last forever, road noise is minimal, and they just work better than anything else i have ever experienced......oh yeah, and they start with 18/32 of tread, more than most tires that size.. just my .02

as soon as i can find some 15's for the legacy i've got some pirelli's that im gonna mount up and start up the rally cross scene again, i dont know when that'll be though....... -
i am currently in the process of building the 2.5 block with the 2.2 heads, so let me know if you get done first..... ya know how everything worked out....

well, $100, and a case of beer later i have a 2.5 bottom end...... it only had a slight tick, but they replaced it anyway, so im going to rebuild it.... first off, a few q's. are the oil pans from the 2.2 and the 2.5 the same? any one have any idea as to how much rings and pistons are gonna cost? has anyone ever balanced a motor before? how much did it cost? and if there's anything else i should know, clue me in......thanks

im down for another meet...... a good chance to show off my new ride -
road noise is actually not bad, ridesreally smooth, and they do last for a long, long time......
-
i finally decided to put the d/r from my old wagon in the legacy, so here are a few questions......... what flywheel do i need? do i need to mess with the shift linkage at all? will i have to change the starter??
-
im using kumho venture m/t's.... the measures are 27x 8.5/14... these are the best tires i have found for the price.... i got them on tirerack.com for i think it was less than $80/ tire brand new......

i suppose it doesnt really matter what struts u use, it all comes down to what strut tops fit what cars.......
-
ok, here goes. impreza, use forester struts and springs legacy, use outback struts and springs...........( legacy outback, not outback sport, which is the impreza model.....)
-
i used 97 outback struts, and yes your springs will work........ you will probably get about 2 inches out of it....as for the rims, no clue, i just used the ones i had....
-
hey zap, hows the alignment lookin on that rig of yours? i would like to do the springs eventually, but i dont want to run into camber issues..........any ideas?
-
turbo is good, but i would suggest a new bottom end first. otherwise you'll kill it really fast...... you dont need to upgrade anything from what i hear, although fuel pressure might not hurt....... bigger injectors, and then of course bigger exhaust.... say 3 inch from turbo back..... just a thought
-
i didnt use the springs, just the struts, and no the strut tops will not fit without some drilling or widening of the holes that already exist...... i just used stock springs and outback struts.... alignment, i havent had it looked at yet, but its off at least a little. the rears were a definate pain to get in, barely fit, had to undo the sway bar to get em in, but the fronts were cake....... using the stock springs it will still be "soft" when you need it to be, but it wont be all the time....
-
my newest is a 90 legacy, just lifted it, and i daily drive it too...... hopefully i can get some pics soon....
-
update....... i finally installed my struts, and realized ist a good thing that i didnt use the scorpion springs with it.... if i had, it would be like using 2x4's for suspension... with just the struts it put my rear diff clearance at just barely under 9 inches, there should be enought room to now install the 27's ive had hanging around for the last week, and it rides quite a bit stiffer now, and im still on stock legacy springs....... i'll update again when i get the tires on.....
