new guy from AK
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Sundog's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
His profile says Palmer. That is where I grew up... well, Wasilla is where I lived but its close enough. Lived there until the age of 14 then moved to Anchorage, and lived there till I was 20. I haven't been back there in almost 10 years, but I have friends who tell me it has changed alot. I can't wait to go back to visit. -

new guy from AK

Ninilchik... damn, i havent heard of that place in a long time. Used to do some fishing down there, and all over anchor point. Anyhow, welcome to the club. I grew up in Alaska, but never got to wheel much. All the trails I encountered were always blocked off. -
Nevada Meet March 27th

If that is the week of spring break there might be a conflict. -
Just do the 2.2 and forget about low range. Get a running start and don't let up on the skinny pedal

OMG!!! 18 years old?? My Little Boy is finally all grown up... *sniff*sniff*

Technically lifting the Subaru will give you more clearance under the body. These lifts are not conventional "Body lifts" nor are they true "suspension lifts". Because its a Uni-body design, you gain no additional clearance under your diff's. However, your body will gain 2", 4" or however much lift you go with. I suggest if you are going to re-route your exhaust, you find a Turbo Subaru and use the exhaust headers from it. The pipe crosses in front of the oil pan instead of under the oil pan, and you will be able to tuck your skid plate up closer to the body. Also, if you really want to make this a true mud-bogger, you might want to look into replacing that piece of crap engine with a real one. Start searching for EJ22 swaps.

I did see a forester, impreza & legacy coloring page on the internet somewhere. But not a Brat, or GL... wouldnt be too hard for someone with the right knowledge.
-
Yeah the TD04 isnt a direct bolt-in.

My new 1981 brat!!!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Pooparu's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
The shop is probably pissed because you provided a replacement motor, and they couldn't sell the dude one at a huge mark-up. That sucks the motor blew on the guy to begin with, but thats awesome you went and gave him a replacement. -
Sorry, on my RX i had removed it so many times, that the only thing holding it was the 4 bolts on the turbo. I forgot about the shielding and everything else that comes stock. Anyhow, a new turbo will be like a new car. I suggest you find and install an intercooler when you install the new turbo, it will make the EA82 appreciate you that much more.
-
Yeah just drop the downpipe. Its 4 bolts, easy to get to... and gives you direct access to the impeller shaft. This will tell you right away if your turbo is bad.
-
You can unbolt the downpipe from the backside of the turbo to gain access to the impeller, then check to see if its seized. Does it sound like there is an exhaust leak? My old RX had a problem where the up-pipe was broken, and none of the exhaust was making it to the turbo to spool it up.

We havent yet, our schedules never seem to line up. We used to work together, but since I got laid off my wheelin' trips have been limited. This summer for sure tho!

Chat Room - Is it common knowledge?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to rxleone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, Andy & I have had the chatroom in place for a while. People come, and people go but most the time it is kinda empty. -
Tires for offroad... Hmmm what do I buy?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Off Road
I am sold on Swampers! I have seen them do amazing things and still hold air. Things most tires would have shredded themselfs on. -
I have a buddy who wheels a bronco. Its the old 70's bronco body, not sure what year it is. But he's done a few things to it

Put your hub back together, and thread the 4 bolts in finger tight. Then put the cone washer on your CV joint and start threading the castle nut on. keep it lubed and dont cross thread it... and after a while it will start to pull everything together. Once the 36mm bolt starts tightening you can tighten the 4 bolts on the hub more. Continue to do that until everything is snug & tight. Is that a torque wrench you are using?? or a solid breaker bar? You should definatly be doing this with a breaker bar and not a ratchet.

Blow off Valve on a EA82T
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Levysoobie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You need to research how a turbo works, what a bypass valve does, and where it goes. -
