How do YOU change the front wheel bearing in your wheeler? :-)
TheSubaruJunkie replied to obk25xt's topic in Off Road
Keep that girl around, you will need someone to call an ambulance when that hi-lift gives out and your car crushes you. Invest in a nice set of jack stands at the very least. -
Yeah my domain is gone, so all my links are broke.

Battery or Alternator
TheSubaruJunkie replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
No, i am almost sure your battery is still bad. But when you get a new one, buy new cables and install them as well. Its probably only $10 for a set of cables, and it'll be worth it. -
Battery or Alternator
TheSubaruJunkie replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
Replace your battery cables. I have seen corrosion work its way into the cable, you'd never notice it because the corrosion gets under the insulation and renders the cable useless. New cables are cheaper than a new battery. -
The decent into Buck Island went smooth. We were making great time! The trail was in excellent condition and it was a breeze. So we get to Buck Island and we are way ahead of schedule. Its only 1:30pm and Im not done wheelin just yet. This is as far as I've ever been on the trail, last time I was here we camped at buck island and went back to loon. So Chuck & I decide we're gonna keep going and try to make it to the Rubicon Springs, then we can turn around and come back to Buck Island where we can setup camp... then return to loon the next day. So On We Go!! The second half of the trail was all new to me, and boy was I suprised!! its like a whole new trail, way different and more challenging than the first half. We didn't take a whole lot of pictures because we were too busy grasping our steering wheels Ok, so we get to Rubicon Springs and I look at our map, and it looks like we're almost finished with the trail. INstead of turning back, we decide to push thru and camp at the top. So we continue and make it to the top of Cadillac Hill before 7pm. A great day of wheelin!! We found a great spot to setup camp, and had an awesome dinner!! The next morning we woke up bright and early, and left around 9am, by 11:30 we were hitting Pavement on the Tahoe side and airing up. What a great trip! I had a blast, as i am sure Chuck did as well. I definatly want to get one more trip in before it gets cold out. Maybe this time with more people around to take pix -Brian

This is a trip report I put up on another forum, but thought maybe a few here would like to see as well. Just a copy & Paste: This was my 2nd trip to the 'con, but my 1st in my 4Runner. This was Chucks upteenth time on the con, but his 1st in a Truck & not on a Quad. The both of us tore that trail a new *********************, it was an awesome time!! Damage Report: NONE! Fun Report: Through the ROOF! So our plan of attack was to drive up late Monday afternoon & camp at Loon lake so we can get an early start on Tuesday. So that we did. Chuck met me at my Place in Citrus Heights and from there we left and we were at Loon Lake by 7pm. We decided to drive up on the slabs and setup camp right before "Gatekeeper" (If you can still call it that). We set off on the trail at about 8:30am Tuesday morning. Our plan of attack was to make it to Buck Island & Camp there. So onward we go.... We were making great time. It didnt take us long to reach the sluicebox. I had never been to spider lake, so we stopped for a moment so Chuck could give me the ten cent tour. There we ran into a camper with a sick 4runner, and imagine that... it was red as well After a short stop at Spider we went on our way, next stop Buck Island! But we didn't make it far before we caught up with these guys, Turns out these guys drove all the way from Arizona to run the 'con. There was 1 jeep and 5 or 6 Land Rovers. They were all doing a real good job, but just taking things slow. They were nice enough to let us pass... After that it was smooooth sailing. I dont think we saw another group of people until we reached the lake.

Battery or Alternator
TheSubaruJunkie replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
Yeah my alternator charges at 14.4 volts. Dont worry. Put your multimeter on the battery and check voltage with the engine off. Start the engine, let it run and idle... then shut it off and check voltage. See if voltage on the battery has increased or not. From what you say, it sounds to me as if the battery is bad... it should be holding a charge if 12+ volts are being supplied to it. You can also do a load test on the battery to verify if its bad or not, but its hard to do with just a multimeter. Its best to have a shop check that though. -

EA81 5spd swap gone bad... help!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
The pressure plate sat flush against the flywheel. I did notice that when the pressure plate was bolted down, all the spring plates on the plate itself moved inwards... instead of sticking at an outward angle. We just finished bolting everything together and it wont disengage the clutch. Ive adjusted the clutch cable to the point where it will not go any farther, and the clutch fork bottoms out when the pedal is pushed to the floor.... but the car wont come out of gear or shift etc. -
EA81 5spd swap gone bad... help!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
The disc we used did have a larger diameter spring pack on it. It fit in, and the pressure plate mounted just fine. But we have the clutch cable adjusted all the way to the max, and it doesnt seem to be releasing. -
EA81 5spd swap gone bad... help!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I checked with the FSM & the directions that came with the disc, and we installed the disc with the flush face, towards the engine... and the side with the springs exposed facing the pressure plate. -
So I have Jibs down here, we're putting a EA82 5spd into his Hatchback. We have jerry's kit, we finally got the 5spd mated to the EA81, but we cannot get the clutch to disengage. It was a pain in the rump roast just getting it bolted together... took us 5 tries and finally we have the two together. However, when we press the clutch pedal the clutch fork moves maybe 1/2" at most and it does not disengage the clutch. The parts we used are. EA81 flywheel EA81 pressure plate EA82 clutch disc EA82 throwout bearing D/R EA82 5 speed. Can anyone help, give us some insight?

For Shame... and Giggles
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
Im not here to compare apples to oranges... i know the blazer is nothing like my 4runner. We dated for 5 years. The truck never had a problem with its engine, it was just a horrible ride. The suspension was far too soft, it felt like driving in a water bed. That is my only complaint. And again, 3eyed can go ************ himself, twitch have fun with your new ride. -

TheSubaruJunkie replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
My girlfriends blazer rode like a boat. The suspension was horrible, the handling was horrible. True, the engine would smoke the tires, but the rest of the car was a huge piece of crap. My 4runner is 1,000x the truck that piece of ************ S10 ever was. So go ************ yourself 3eyed. -
yup, sand, primer, paint. Sand real good to get the surface to accept the primer.

I have been running these tires for years! They are great, and cheap too. They come in almost every size. I put a pair of 195/50R15's on a brat once, and had a set of 195/50R13 on my RX. My brat currently has 185/60R13's and they are awesome. My speedo is about 5mph off, but that means if my speedo says 80 im traveling aprox 75. These are definatly a street only tire, i have been off-road once with them in my RX and it was a pain, only thing in my favor was the LSD rear end. Street performance is great for any of our lightweight EA81s or EA82's
