Than why not say screw it and remove the thermostat all together? Subaru's engines are designed to run most efficiently at 180 degree's but running a 160 shouldnt hurt a thing. Provided you can find one. I was searching for a 170 for my EA81 in california, and even Napa couldnt special order one. Intercool the car as soon as possible, i can tell a noticeable difference with my engine temps with the intercooler on. -Brian

Noah has pix of the AA wagon in the air. It wasnt Shady driving, it was his business partner. I was the one that donated the struts to save them, but the car still had to be towed to camp since he blew out both passenger side CV's (front and rear). The lift survived, but the strut didnt -Brian -

I love it, im all for it!! But to make it a true Subaru icon you must have AWD. But with a $2000 budget i guess you cant get too crazy. Where is this race held? Is there a webpage to learn more about it? -Brian

Okay... well noah's pictures are down now. He told me to remove the album in AIM, and then went to bed or something :\ -Brian -
Well... he drove a suburban, with a legacy on a trailer (from what I saw, but anyhow...) And with those new tires on his hatch, im sure he has way more than 20". Stopped at his house when we were in Eugene and Weeble Wobble is looking better than ever! -Brian

Looks like you got one hell of a fight ahead of you. Justy is the bastard subaru... almost nothing fits in it without ALOT of fabrication. Hope weld and metal isnt a part of your budget, it might cost at least $2000 in steel to mount your EJ20 and create enough structure to handle the power. 250hp in a justy will twist it like a pretzel. -Brian

John Blooms lifted hatch is 12" off the ground, and we woulda known for sure it was him. This was a hatch he built, but not him himself... And he was at the show, but didnt even bring a sube. -Brian

Got another project on the pallet that I will use for the drive. Your Brat should be done by then too. -Brian -
Kelly made it official by giving me a SKA sticker at the show. I was honored to accept it and currently it sits on the drivers side of my rear hatch. This means I need to make a trip up to Alaska to see everybody (and to also visit all my old friends still up there). So who else is there here and when are the weekly meets? -Brian

coming 2 alaska
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Numbchux's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Seems you already have alot on the plate to do... 2 days in anchorage is alot, as there's not much in anchorage to do. You can hit the museum (which I highly recomend) and spend an afternoon in downtown. Go visit Earthquake park in Anchorage and if you like scenic drives you can rent a car and drive the Turnagain arm. In August the drive would be beautiful and there is quite a bit of wildlife to see not far from Anchorage. How are you traveling to and from Denali? Bus or train? If its by train you will get to see ALOT. Since you have 2 days in denali, look into the Chena hot Springs (hope its spelled right), not sure how far from Denali it is, but its up that way and worth the visit. Too bad your only spending 4 days total there... you need like 2 weeks to fully enjoy Alaska. If your a sports fisherman, I recommend returning in Spring and fish the Kenai River. -Brian -
Scooby, your car looks awesome and even better in person in the middle of the woods! Great job, i'd go for the winch before the lift. Your car seems to be fairly capable as is. -Brian

TheSubaruJunkie replied to Jibs's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yeah it seemed Kelly was on the lookout for a nice, rust-free Subaru to take back to Alaska. When is he expected to return? -Brian -

Reasons to compression brake rather than slamming on your brakes... 1) Its illegal in some states Thats right, in Anchorage Alaska where I took my drivers license test... the ONLY thing I got docked on was the fact that I coasted to a stop by putting the car in neutral and braking from 35mph to a stop. When I asked why, i was explained this by the DMV personel, which brings me to... 2) You have more control while braking While engine braking, your tires are guaranteed to still have traction. Kinda like ABS before ABS was invented, if you press the clutch and brake you disconnect your drivetrain from the engine powering it... and you risk the chance of locking up your tires or losing control of your vehicle. If your car is in gear, you still (or should) have complete control of the vehicle while stopping. 3) To save my brakes As Morgan said... you only cause wear on your clutch when you are slipping it. When the clutch is fully depressed there is no slipping and no wear being created. You create more wear and tear on your clutch by accelerating than decelerating could ever cause (unless you dont know what your doing). Ride your brakes on a mountain decent, and then do it again with the clutch. Tell me which you smell 1st... clutch or brake. 4) It sounds cool! Thats right... nothing sounds cooler than a un-muffled subaru compression braking. I do it for fun even if I dont intend to stop.... just downshift to hear the engine decell.... its great fun to scare the ricers. -Brian
