  1. Yeah, couldnt help myself. I had to go represent.
  2. http://forums.fourwheeler.com/70/6511427/other-trucks/subarus/page3.html Dont feel like registering just to post some pix. But i might later.
  3. Im not going to get into this argument again. So i'll just advise you of the safer alternative. Rent a u-haul with a car trailer. Tow the Subaru on the trailer with it full of stuff. Get a u-haul big enough to put the bike in. It might also come out to be alittle cheaper in the long run. If you spent all the time and money to build a trailer, when would you use it again? You plan on moving or hauling a bunch of stuff? If so, maybe a EA81 hatch isnt the car for you. -Brian
  4. Sweet! More locals. Im a die hard sube nut, just recently turned toyota
  5. I had the same problem with my RX. No boost on the gauge... poor engine performance. So I checked my up-pipe and found: So I took it to work and fixed it: -Brian
  6. Sure... whats the problem? There is no problem..... ....Until you blow your motor up. With you talking about the stock intake plentum, that leaves me to believe your car is not intercooled. You are asking for certain failure if you keep over boosting your engine. However, as said before, there is a Fuel Cut. The ECU should notice increased boost, and at 11-13psi it should cut the fuel supply and the motor should die. I highly recommend getting a boost gauge. Then an intercooler.
  7. Yeah sounds to me like the wastegate is either not working, or not hooked up. Your car shouldnt make more than 7psi at max boost. Depending on your elevation etc... 7psi shouldnt be enough to seperate the intake plentum from the manifold. I would also invest in a boost gauge. You can tap into the vacuum line that feeds the wastegate, and run a gauge off of it. This will help you monitor your boost levels. -Brian
  8. Your going to find alot of parts stores will confuse your '89 hatch with a '89 3 door coupe, parts will not interchange. Lie to the guys and ask for 1984 GL Parts. 1984 there was only EA81's, and all the parts interchange with your '89. You should then have no problems. -Brian
  9. HTi has a point here... lets see you use that defense in court and see how far it gets you. Im done with this argument. Ive proven my point.
  10. Good luck. Bay Area is SmogII from what I hear and its going to be tough.
  11. Lets try to pull this back on topic guys. Silver expect a PM very soon. -Brian
  12. Not unless you are really good with fabrication. Its possible, but not easy. Find a EA81. The motor in the car you listed is a EA82.
  13. SHUT UP! Thanks. That only further proves my point. And I was using the EA81 as refference. Is that 209lbs wet or dry? I dont feel like pulling my FSM out, but just wanted to elaborate at just how light our vehicles are. And it wont take much to push you into another vehicle. I'll make sure to give you plenty of room if I ever see you on the road. As stated before. Plenty of people out there have towed with their subaru's. I expect more people to reply with "Ive done it, ive never wrecked" than those with common sence who will say "read your manual... what does it say?" BTW, thanks Milesfox for that quote. So yeah, unless its a lawn mower or a dirt bike... i wouldnt risk towing it. And when I say lawn mower, i mean like a riding lawn mower. -Brian
  14. Silver..... if your not going to contribute to a thread, try not posting in it. Thats kinda like interupting a conversation. thanks, -Brian
  15. Yeah i knew it was around 200lbs off the top of my head. Rick came through and verified by looking it up for me in the FSM. 1983 EA81 model. Im sure the EA82 is slightly heavier, but not by much. And im not an employee. Im just a regular member as you are, just been here for a very long time. Ive never towed anything with my subaru. Im too much of a "scardy cat" as some would say. I load Skid Steers. Scissor lifts. Smaller John Deere tractors. My previous position before a mechanic was a Lead Yardman (foreman) for United Rentals. Ive been trained on how to inspect, load, operate and safely manouver trailers loaded and empty. You should see some of the 1/2 ton & 3/4 ton trucks Ive had to deny service too. There's no way in hell I would allow a Subaru to tow anything out of our yard... not even a 13hp tiller on a small utility trailer.
  16. Go look in your other thread, the donation thread where this question belongs.
  17. This is the Older Generation Forum. If you want a subaru that can tow, buy a forester, outback or even an impreza. Im qualified as an uber towing expert becuase its part of my field. I am a heavy equipment mechanic, and as such Ive been trained how to propperly load trailers with equipment and items. Your right, a 2000lb trailer shouldnt have the tongue wieght of more than 200lbs, however your EA81 or EA82 full of fluids wieghs in at 227lbs so you are already canceling out most of the wieght over your drive wheels. Next time you are towing something... try and come to a sudden stop. See what happens. Lets hope you dont have to steer to avoid hitting something (someone). -Brian p.s. unless youve converted to rear disk's... your brakes suck.
  18. I wouldnt tow anything but a lawn mower with a Subaru. 1) The Brakes on your Subaru suck. They do a good job stopping your wagon, but anything past that is asking for trouble. 2) They are FWD Vehicles. You put tongue wieght on the rear end, you remove wieght from the front where your drive axle is... increasing understeer and decreasing braking performance. I know alot of people are going to reply to this with "Your wrong, I've towed...." or "I hauled ______ and had no problems." etc. Regardless, its not safe, and I wouldnt suggest it. -Brian
  19. There's no replacement for Displacement. I think all the time and effort spent on the 1100 would be better served on a 1600.
  20. There are a couple lines. What you cant see is the uphill angle that is at... and the lines both involve steps that are about as tall as the brats bumper. Anyhow, i know they arent rock crawlers. Which is why i had to give up on em. Until I move to a place with mud and tree's
  21. Zap, i have some confessing to do myself. Since I got the toyota, ive been talkin sh%t about subaru's off-road. I dont have a lifted to bring me back to the light, but I keep telling Jibs he cant follow me anymore. Im sure he'll try, and maybe he'll make a believer out of me yet. But its trails like this that make me worried: -Brian
  22. Thanks guys. Im convinced my head gasket is leaking. I just gotta find time and money to repair it. Well, money isnt as big a concern as time. I cant seem to find a gasket set local, and Im lookin at a week if not longer to get one to me. Woulda loved to have it this weekend so I can make use of this 4 day weekend, but i guess thats not going to work. Im going to be getting a replacement coolant tank and install that to get the car back on the road. Once I have my gasket set I'll tear the motor and go through it. Subaruparts.com doesnt list a t-belt set for the legacy. Anyone have any good vendors out there that supplies a complete kit? belt, idlers etc... Might as well do that while im in there. -Brian
