  1. All those pix are from SlickRock. Im in Citrus Heights. Gotta little work to do to the toy to get it ready for the trails again
  2. Depends on what your idea of fun is. Did I have fun when I wheeled with my Lifted Hatch? Yes, of course! Did I ever make it over that rock in the center of the trail? Not as often as I wanted to. I really enjoy my Toyota. It definatly serves its purpose, and that is to bounce off large rocks in the middle of the woods. I like the fact that I can look at an obsticle and instead of saying "man I wish I could make it through that" i now say "can't wait to see whats on the other side!". However, I miss the head turning factor. Here you see plenty of lifted & modified Toyota's. Never do you see a lifted Subaru. The 1st night I drove my lifted hatch on the road, it was 8pm, dark, and I had to drive to the gas station to fill it up. While there, I had 3 people interested and one asking questions like "way cool, how'd you do that?" etc. Ive had the Truck for almost a year now, and not a single person shows interest, unless they are driving a lifted Yota then they give me the nod and a 2 finger wave as we pass eachother. -Brian
  3. Actually, thats the pushbar I got from Shannon BACK in the day. But I do know the one your speaking of
  4. That is a pushbar for a gen1 subaru. The frame rails are skinner than that of your '81 therefor you will not be able to mount it. The propper push bar looks near identical, however isntead of tabs in the front to bolt to the bumper (as you see here). There are tabs alittle lower on the 2 main beams, and these bolt behind the stock bumper. There is also another type of pushbar that doesn't bolt to the engine crossmember, it bolts to where your front tow hooks are mounted. This is a picture of the correct pushbar for your '81 hatch: -Brian
  5. I just locked cyl#1 with a piece of rope. Then with the belt still installed, I used my breaker bar to losen the cam pulleys. Unlocked the cylinder and removed the belt, then removed the pulleys. Guess the tool would be handy, but there are ways around using it. -Brian
  6. Carburated EA81's and Turbo EA81's have different pistons. The Turbo pistons are dished to lower the compression ratio. Your EA81, with the carburator, is a non-turbo EA81 with some type of custom Turbo installed. If you install EA81T pistons, then you will take a hit in performance. However, if you do run with the turbo pistons, you can crank your turbo up a tad to compensate for the lower compression.
  7. The H4 reffers to the layout. Horizontal 4 cylinder. All Subarus are H4's, except the 6cyl which are of course H6's. The description you posted is for a EA81T (turbo EA81). Is your custom Motor Fuel injected or carburated??
  8. Thats the reason im not worrying about 5.29's.... the 4.10's are supposed to be stronger and after i get my t-case gears IM sure i wont even notice the 4.10's
  9. Its got 33's on it now. And the only mods I've done is the hysteer conversion. It already has a welded rear and triangulated rear shocks. Soon I will continue the cage and do some more work to the axles. With this tax refund stimulus check we're getting, I will get the 4.7:1 Transfercase gears and start searching for an affordable front locker.
  10. Yeah, those silly arabs... when will they learn? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yckW50ksqrM&feature=related
  11. yeah Kevin, glad to see you here... hope life is working out for you This is for a 2.2 Turbo. The Counter guy owns one too and swears by it.
  12. Got some parts from the dealer today to wrap up my engine assembly, and the counter guy suggested I use Subaru Coolant System Conditioner when I fill my engine. For $2 I said why not... and got it. He also mentioned I should use it with Subaru coolant. Well, `//TF is Subaru Coolant? I dont think its necessary to buy coolant from the dealer, is there a specific type of coolant I should look for?
  13. Oh common... at least you didnt park your car 1/2 way up the mountain, get 2 hours of horrible boarding in, then go to try to find your car only to find it had been towed and then was forced to spend 8 hours in the local Denny's waiting for the tow yard to open up... .... oh wait   -Brian
  14. Alot more fun than spending 2 hours walking up and down Mt. Hood looking for Jasons K2 Juju
  15. 46.... that trip wasnt 1/2 as fun as this trip here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=80898 Wouldnt mind having a built 4Runner accompany us next time. -Brian
  16. They still come in a nifty "Subaru" box, and I'm sure Subaru isn't going to sell crap.
  17. It will only mess up the diff if you drive it in 4WD. Rule of thumb is to NEVER (EVER EVER EVER EVER.... EVER!!!) drive your car in 4WD on pavement. The new RX Trans you just got. It CAN be driven on Pavement because its a true AWD box with an open center diff. The diff lock on the trans will lock the center diff, and you want to only do that on dirt/mud/snow.
  18. I did read your posts. However, unless you have a RX trans, your trans is most likely NOT a 3.7 Just a word of caution.
  19. Better check and make sure that Transmission has really got a 3.7 Front Diff, or else your going to destroy a perfectly good $26 LSD, or a much more expensive transmission.
  20. I took down my image host earlier. Here's some i have hosted somewhere else: Just noticed your screen name. Happens to be one of my favorite tool songs of all time.
  21. It will only effect the USMB's bandwith if they host their oversized picture in their USMB gallery, then post it in the thread. If its hosted at Imageshak, or Photobucket or any of those other places, then it doesnt effect the USMB at all... just effects the viewers load times. Thats a pretty handy program tho. I recommend anyone without photoshop get it and use it.
  22. Hey thats a nice runner you got there! (couldnt view pix from work in my earlier reply). Here's a couple shots of my Pickup: Whereabouts are you located? A co-worker of mine (who actually got me started on this whole 'yota thing) has the custom '81 pictured there. We are always lookin for more to go wheelin with. Plannin on the Rubicon this summer, fordyce and more.
