  1. Is that a good d'oh or a "i lost my job" d'oh!?!?!
  2. Yeah these are new mounts. Im sure they are on the right side's... just looks like its an inch too far forward. I used a jack under the tranny when attatching the motor to it. now that the motor is bolted to the tranny, the only thing supporting it is the hoist. I tried leaning into the hoist to get alittle extra movement, but it wont budge. I guess i'll try the prybar tomorrow.
  3. When trying to drop my motor back in my car today, the mounts wont fall into the crossmember. It looks like the studs are about an inch too far forward? Im almost positive I have the mounts on the right sides, but I cant find any images to show me. And the R - L is missleading, as im not sure if they mean right side while looking at the front or rear of the motor. Anyone have any tips? -Brian
  4. Peugeot (pronounced Pew-joe). They are 4x140mm. Most junkyards wont know, you just gotta go look. 14"s were offered in steel and alloy. You wont find any Subaru 14" rims, and if you do its a miracle!
  5. Ive heard from a couple people that the only problem is the steering u-joint comming from the steering gearbox rubs against the CV boot. Other than that, the EA81 motor and trans is a near drop in replacement... only other problem being the shift linkages for 4WD. -Brian
  6. I dont think there is a difference between 2WD and 4WD. But if you are planning on going from solid rotors to vented, then You will need to get the caliper and mounting bracket as well.
  7. They are panels usually riveted to the doors. I dont see rivets in that picture so im not sure if they are just a decal. That place is usually full of subes. 3 to 4 rows full, and 80% have no business being in there. Most are there cause they will no longer pass smog.
  8. Zap, i need to hit that same yard this weekend to look for parts for my Legacy. I'll take a look at those rock guards for you and see about snagging them.
  9. I never ran my EA81 or EA82's at stock timing. I always bumped it up a notch or 2. The performance increase is noticable. they want it at 8 degree's (for a EA81) for emissions purposes. I ran mine at 10-12 degree's. Depending on your elevation.
  10. Zap, i got the know how. Preffer to make a video rather than an image slideshow, but a combination of the two would look nice as well.
  11. Theres a video forum, but okay i'll play.
  12. Wish I woulda sold it. I ended up parting it out and sending the shell to the junkyard. Got $30 for the carcass It was mint too.
  13. Ive seen worse. btw- you need a grill for that thing
  14. You guys are making me wanna buy another old school subaru!! ARGH. Here's a pic of Zeno & I up in the hills there. Not sure exactly where. My car is (was) the red hatch. Here is a shot of Jibs & I up in the same area: My car is (was) the lifted wagon, he's got the brat. Definatly some awesome wheelin all around those parts for a lifted subaru and a stock subaru. Here is the video I put together from one of our last runs. This features Subaruman, Jibs, NV Zeno & I. Now I wheel a Toyota...
  15. You will find 90-91 springs will be different than 92-94 leggy springs. Also different from 95+. Some may work, some may not. There is alot of discussion on swapping suspension for old school legacies. Alot of it i have not yet mastered, im working on lowering my '92 Wagon and making it alittle stiffer... i hear of people using everything from WRX to RS struts/springs. There is only one manufacturer out there that makes lowering springs specificly for the '90-'91 and '92-'94 Legacies and that is Whiteline... however, a complete set will put you back around $300 to $500.
  16. Alternator belt broke, or the alternator itself went bad.
  17. All those pix are from SlickRock. Im in Citrus Heights. Gotta little work to do to the toy to get it ready for the trails again
  18. Depends on what your idea of fun is. Did I have fun when I wheeled with my Lifted Hatch? Yes, of course! Did I ever make it over that rock in the center of the trail? Not as often as I wanted to. I really enjoy my Toyota. It definatly serves its purpose, and that is to bounce off large rocks in the middle of the woods. I like the fact that I can look at an obsticle and instead of saying "man I wish I could make it through that" i now say "can't wait to see whats on the other side!". However, I miss the head turning factor. Here you see plenty of lifted & modified Toyota's. Never do you see a lifted Subaru. The 1st night I drove my lifted hatch on the road, it was 8pm, dark, and I had to drive to the gas station to fill it up. While there, I had 3 people interested and one asking questions like "way cool, how'd you do that?" etc. Ive had the Truck for almost a year now, and not a single person shows interest, unless they are driving a lifted Yota then they give me the nod and a 2 finger wave as we pass eachother. -Brian
  19. Actually, thats the pushbar I got from Shannon BACK in the day. But I do know the one your speaking of
  20. That is a pushbar for a gen1 subaru. The frame rails are skinner than that of your '81 therefor you will not be able to mount it. The propper push bar looks near identical, however isntead of tabs in the front to bolt to the bumper (as you see here). There are tabs alittle lower on the 2 main beams, and these bolt behind the stock bumper. There is also another type of pushbar that doesn't bolt to the engine crossmember, it bolts to where your front tow hooks are mounted. This is a picture of the correct pushbar for your '81 hatch: -Brian
  21. I just locked cyl#1 with a piece of rope. Then with the belt still installed, I used my breaker bar to losen the cam pulleys. Unlocked the cylinder and removed the belt, then removed the pulleys. Guess the tool would be handy, but there are ways around using it. -Brian
  22. Carburated EA81's and Turbo EA81's have different pistons. The Turbo pistons are dished to lower the compression ratio. Your EA81, with the carburator, is a non-turbo EA81 with some type of custom Turbo installed. If you install EA81T pistons, then you will take a hit in performance. However, if you do run with the turbo pistons, you can crank your turbo up a tad to compensate for the lower compression.
  23. The H4 reffers to the layout. Horizontal 4 cylinder. All Subarus are H4's, except the 6cyl which are of course H6's. The description you posted is for a EA81T (turbo EA81). Is your custom Motor Fuel injected or carburated??
