  1. Because you are running thick oil the HLA's probably don't get oil right away as they have tiny ports. I run 5w-40 rotella. I also get a knocking on cold start just the hla's though don't think its the bearings in the engine or something serious. I don't see what your worried about? I would fix those tiny issues you can easily go to a scrap yard and get the window parts, seat belt, the locks idk what you mean maybe lubricate all the door components, get a new seatbelt assembly, a/c replace o-rings on the compressor and refill. All little things! Or better yet continue driving it the way it is if it's fine and when you want something newer then look.
  2. Where is the banging noise coming from? Maybe the belt jumped and the valves are colliding with the pistons. When was the timing belt last done?
  3. Id just do spark plugs, and oil change. Don't bother spending the coin for the timing belt, water pump, etc till that interval don't let this restart the maintenance routine.
  4. Ya might as well There only $10 for 4 at the dealer anyway. The wires should be fine.
  5. Don't waste your time and fluids. The solenoid is dead simple. I had a dead solenoid and the FWD light still worked its just a pinout to the ecu, not straight to the wire going to the solenoid.
  6. Interesting, try putting in the FWD fuse on the passenger side and see if it goes away.
  7. Start with searching up Torque bind. This happened on my 93 Legacy years ago as well! In the end we spent $3000 on a tranny rebuild and it still didn't work properly. Best option if the tranny shifts fine, go to the dealership or a good subaru shop and get them to replace the rear half of the tranny ( doesn't involve tranny removal just rear prop shaft, crossmember mounts holding tranny, and undoing the rear of the tranny). You can probably find a whole good working tranny and use it for parts for cheap or most likely the solenoid just failed. Does the power light flash on startup?
  8. hahaha! Nice lift! Over here in Canada we don't actually call it harbour freight we call it Princess Auto
  9. Ya I have done it 3 times now. You need a leveller once you get the right angle comes right over the crossmember and you can lift it right out. Heres some pics Another thing you do not need to undo the wheels like I did and undo the hubs. You can simple knock out the pins for the axles first, then once you jack up the motor pull it aside to pull out the axle from the stub and carefully lay it on the crossmember. Don't forget any wiring! Keep double checking things don't want to snag anything. Oh and since you won't have a cut stub to shove in the back of the tranny for oil not to leak out I think harbour freight sells a blank stub or you can use a balloon, condom, latex glove etc.
  10. Sounds like a used 300k mile motor that is knowingly working properly would have been a MUCH more reliable choice. This is incredibly frustrating to read, it drives me nuts just reading that thread with the same reoccuring issues. If they do not know how to rebuild the motors then they should not be in the business. To be on the 3rd motor and still not have a perfect motor is CRAZY!
  11. Is it misfiring? Hopefully the valves aren't damaged. Although the ej22 has HLA's so it is possible they just need to bleed themselves out and it will fix itself. Possibly add 1/4qt of ATF to the oil to clean out and possible debree in the oil. Once the noise clears do a oil change. Actually firstly check to see if you have any oil lol.
  12. ok? Don't put the car on jack stands and put it in gear because that is pointless and bad for the axles. Are you cleaning the engine? It could simply just be dripping and only makes drops every so often. I had a really bad oil leak and its turned out to be my oil pump o ring because there is alot of pressure in the area.
  13. Same thing with my car too!!!! It's extremely annoying. I might have overfilled the a/c though which would make sense I guess.
  14. Yikes, I am thinking in terms of Throttle position sensing might be off lol. BTW this tank 53L and 280km. WOOT!!
  15. Hey guys, how much does the TPS play a role with things? I think I want to retune the TPS and replace the o2 sensor. Still questioning the intake manifold gaskets though hmmm.
  16. No CEL, I am running a non catted downpipe, but the mid still has the stock CAT. On a hot day, cold start I can see white smoke! I figured the o2 sensor has no affect till I am cruising. The o2 sensor is dented, and the wiring insulation is cut up a bit.
  17. Hey guys, I really need to get this issue fixed. To start its a 94 turbo legacy. Now fuel economy is pretty crappy at 300km to 50+L. Doesn't matter how I drive it either :S Really there isn't much power in boost, you don't really feel the boost. It hits 8 psi. What I have noticed is when I floor it, if I let off the pedal it will start accelerating much faster, almost seems like the engine is bogging when I floor it. What has been done, spark plugs (coppers), fuel pump (walbro 190), swapped injectors, knock sensor, cleaned MAF, BPV checked for vacuum leaks, engine seems to idle pretty nice. Recently did the timing belt, idlers, oil pump, water pump didn't make any difference either. History of what has been done on this car, replaced the engine and tranny with one from another car since it was easier to swap the engine and tranny together. Previous engine I could easily get 400km to a tank, 350km at its worse. This is what I am thinking about doing, swap over intake manifolds since my old motor has a better condition one, and at the same time I can replace the intake gaskets (TB, IAC, and head to manifold). I am thinking maybe a gasket is broken or cracked, and when I hit full boost it leaks.
  18. Hey guys, when I installed another auto tranny in my car I drained what ever fluid was in the pan and then filled about 5L. So I start it up let it idle, pull the dipstick appears the tranny is still pretty low, put another liter. Came up a bit still not even at the low mark. Put another 1/2L and its at the low mark, but the outer edge of the dipstick is wet. Now I have added 6.5L of ATF and it is still not full. I do not really understand how this works? I am doing it with the engine on btw. I do not want to overfill it, nor do I want to run it dry.... ATM noticing my awd has alot of delay, but when it warms up, seems to work. If the TC was drained would it need to fill the it I guess. Better question is how many liters does the whole tranny hold? It is a 94 legacy turbo, and it has another turbo tranny in place.
  19. Oh in that case probably avoid the dealer. Someone odd to chime in with some good subie shops. If it only does it decelerating might not be a big deal. Does it bind up when you turn tight? Maybe the diff was the wrong one. Do you recall the gear ratio?
